Spiral Starecase
Released in 1969...they disbanded in 71.
Love the Gibson Byrdland Pat Upton's playing. Great voice too....strong falsetto.

oohhhh . . . a challenge . . . and a timewaster to boot [what better to do while on the phone answering the same questions to the same people you have the last 10 years?
ah, there are just so many . . . how about we start with the ones who started "it" all . . . unfortunately, nothing old enough so . . .

Well, I've been in a nostalgic mood the last coupla days anyway [remember when the Habs actually made it past the first round] and for some reason this has popped into my mind on more than one occasion [probably because my stinkin' bike is still in the shop and will be for at least three more weeks ] OK -- time to be responsible and manage time wisely and all that

Here's somebody who's ridden one song for 40+ years.....Lulu.....she may have had other hits in England....
The power of one hit song....the movie didn't hurt record sales either.
1967 (age 19)
2007 (age 59)

Montreal band. Song begins at 1:27 of the clip. Love the B3 and Leslie.
Drummer Jerry Mercer joined April Wine in 1973......and he's still playing with them at the age of 70. Awesome. I saw them in London a couple of years ago...and his solo was a lot of fun. He stood up about 3/4 of the way through and yelled, "I'm gettin' too old for this s__t!"

Have to admit this one stays with me today. I don't know if Mason Williams is a one-hit wonder (he was with me anyway), but this is an absolute classic.
First premiered on the "Smother's Brothers" back in 1968 (?). I remember my parents and I watching this in our livingroom.

disagree with the designation "one hit wonder" . . . they had a half-hit as well: Dance a Little Step As The Years Go By hit 31 on the Billboard Charts. Dance a Little Step didn't even chart, did it?

Got enough radio play that I remember it -- CKY or CKRC Winnipeg -- maybe it was a CanCon thing.
The early 70s songs stuck with me -- I remember arguing once that there was a lot of fluff for a while . . . Melanie with "Brand New Key", for example . . . and why pap like this sticks with me I'll never know!

Mouth & McNeal.....hilarious. From that same era, three more fluffy/novelty one-hit wonders.
The Pipkins: Gimme Dat Ding
Daddy Dewdrop: Chick-a-Boom.
A few years earlier....end of 1967.
John Fred and His Playboy Band: Judy in Disguise (with glasses)
A parody, in title only, of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

Judy in Disguise, at least, was a song.
Gimme Dat Ting? How about Manamana?

Yeah, how about it!! From Wikipedia: "Mah Nà Mah Nà" is a popular song written by Piero Umiliani. It originally appeared in the Italian film Sweden: Heaven and Hell, but is best known in English-speaking countries from its use in the first episode of The Muppet Show. It actually reached #55 in the Billboard charts. You never know what's going to strike a chord with a large slice of the pie. I think Benny Hill used it in his show as well. Yakety Sax was another Hill staple (he used it as his theme song), written and recorded by Boots Randolph in 1963.

Hey . . . is it a "one hit wonder" if the lead singer of a "two hit wonder" group [The Zombies] starts a new group who has a one hit onder? [and does it matter that I have always enjoyed the song?]

The song that launched MTV and an entire generation...fitting that it falls into the one-hit wonder category.
BTW, hated it then and I hate it now.
