Dogs about to drop the puck in Houston to finish their three game road trip. Michael Andlauer bought tickets for Sunday's NFL game on Sunday for the whole team. Nice touch by the team owner and now partial owner of the Habs. Sergei still out with an injury, Johansson making his NA pro debut and Desjardins in net. Boucher did not like yesterday's pace at practice, so he had a little "chat" with the team at today's practice and the intensity returned to the team today. Let's see if the boys can deliver the intensity during the game too. Love Boucher's competitiveness. A nice article about the Dogs' good start from the AHL main website. theahl.com/steeltowns-hot-dogs-off-to-best-start-p138451

Good news within bad news for the Dogs. They lose in a shootout, but still retain the AHL's only unbeaten in regulation tag. 5 out of 6 points in Texas as the Houston Aeros nipped the lads tonight.
Weber, Pyatt and White with the goals. The Dogs scored on the first two shots of the shootout, and then were outscored 3-0 on the last three rounds (they use 5 shooters in the AHL not 3 like the NHL).
They host Abbotsford Heat on Friday night as they welcome Calgary's new farm club and third Canadian AHL team for the first time.

For those who are interested, Pyatt and Trotter scored in the shootout last night.
Some interesting quotes from Coach Boucher from today's Spectator. It will be interesting to see if our prospects' development improves as a result of a full-throttle coach like Guy. I would expect that compete and intesity levels will be there!!
"I don't think we took them lightly but we didn't come in as hungry as we usually are and the same thing hurt us in the shootout," said Hamilton coach Guy Boucher. "We went ahead and you could feel it on the bench 'that's a done deal' and that's something that we have to learn from.
"I was quite unhappy with the way we played in the first period and that's something that we'll have corrected by Friday." Although they lost the game the Bulldogs picked up a point for the ninth straight game from the start of the season which extends their new franchise record.

I'm not sure if it's good or bad that Hamilton, despite being 3rd in the AHL in points, does not have a scorer higher than 45th in the league. That man is Mathieu Darche and he has 9 points in 11 games. Tom Pyatt also has 9 points but suffers from having a surname starting with P.

I see the Dogs had 8 PPs to the Sens' 2....including a 1:39 5-on-3, followed closely by a 2:00 5-on-4 in the second period. Came up empty.
Brodeur must have been on his game.....or Hamilton's PP is about as good as Montreal's.

Brodeur must have been on his game.....or Hamilton's PP is about as good as Montreal's. I think NWT was at the game(it was at Montreal). He will probably post something. I would say it is a combo of both, Brodeur absolutely stood on his head as seemingly does any goalie with that name in Montreal. The Dogs heavily outshot the Sens who went into a trap shell for 40 minutes after getting the lead. As for the PP, I don't know what they need to get it going but it cost them the game...plain and simple. You score another goal on any of those chances and this game goes to the Dogs as they would have cranked the game up one more notch than they already had. Some player observations: Sanford - solid night, made some key saves. He is not the biggest guy but plays a solid positional game and has good reflexes. One goal was on a 5 on 3, so he was not what cost the Dogs a game that they should have won. I am glad the Habs have a guy like him as an overall #3 in the system. Weber - looked bad defensively at times against AHL competition. On several occassions, got caught misplaying a puck and then did not have the closing speed to catch a moving forward. He also gave up one goal by not being able to knock his check off the puck that led to one of the Sens goals. He does not look NHL ready to me at all. Subban - a crowd favourite, but would drive Martin nuts at times with his big rushes out of his end. He loves to make a tight turn around the side of the net and go up the middle...even in traffic. Fun to watch, likely a little less so for a guy like Martin behind the bench. His blast from the point on the PP was the only shot that beat Brodeur...and it was a blast. He still needs some overall seasoning and I hope they don't rush him. Sergei - not as game changing as I would have liked, but he did come and compete for most of his shifts. He almost tied it in the dying seconds with some really creative moves after they had pulled the goalie, but the Sens played a solid defensive game and Brodeur stopped next to everything. Maxwell - I really left wanting more. With Pyatt and White in Montreal (in the loge or press box actually watching their mates) and with Desharnais still injured, Maxwell, Darche and Glumac are all being looked at to carry the bulk of the offensive load. Glumac is still searching for a first goal (incredibly) after 13 games. He led the team last year with 33. Darche has been holding his own, so Maxwell needs to pick up his game. He did nothing badly on Friday, but needs to be more noticeable on a team that is struggling a bit of late to score. Conboy and Neilson - about 4 minutes in someone ran Neilson (what were they thinking?) and before Neilson could get his butt off the ice, Conboy had come to his rescue and had one of the most energetic and entertaining tilts I can remember. Next puck drop, it was Neilson's turn. They actually form a great line with FA signing Lacroix and they both can skate and hit everything in sight. Neilson needs to cut down on the dumb penalties, but they are a fun combo. Johansson - only his second or so game back after an injury, and it showed that his skating and timing are still getting warmed up. I will give him a fair bit more time before assessing his overall game, as it is still too early yet. A fair crew of Dogs fans in Dogs jerseys in the stands (moi aussi), and many of them were at the Habs game on Saturday and at the Dogs game in Ottawa on Sunday (I watched part of that on TV). Almost 15K attended on Friday night and it was a great atmosphere. Hope the kids took a lot away from this weekend getting two games in a big league rink and catching a Saturday night game in the best place to play/watch hockey.

Cedric the Entertainer had 31 saves for a 1-0 shutout today at the Scotiabank Place in Kanata. Sergei with the only goal. It came after Desjardins made some great saves on a Baby Sens 5 on 3, then the team broke out of their own end with the replacements out of the box, and then proceeded to score the game's only goal. Nice work behind the net to feed a streaking Sergei in the slot who beat that darn Brodeur guy. He only made 33 saves this afternoon.
Desjardins with the first star, Sergei with the third.
Edit: It was Alex Henry's first game of the season after breaking his hand in a fight in the Habs' pre-season. He donned the "C" that alternate Mathieu Darche has been wearing up to this point. The Dogs dressed seven D, no doubt to help Henry's transition back and also as Swedish forward Johansson is still slowly recovering from his injury as well. Good overall team effort for the win. Not your typical 1-0 game as Desjardins made some spectacular saves on that third period 5 on 3 (for 1:43) and in the last minute of play. The Dogs also were very aggressive going after the puck and trying to generate chances, so they were not sitting back by any means. I sure like Boucher's aggressive style.

If the shoe fits.....
Nah, but the Dogs are missing Carle and White and Pyatt, all of whom would help them.

Another serious injury blow to the Dogs. They lose top offensive guy Mathieu Darche for 4-6 weeks with a dislocated shoulder. The only good news is David Desharnais has returned to the lineup for the first time and Mike Glumac (last year's top scorer) finally got his first of the season...in a losing cause 4-1 on Tuesday to the Rochester Amerks (the top team in the AHL right now). www.rds.ca/bulldogs/chroniques/285983.html

December 4th. Mark it down on the calendar. Everyone thinks I'm joking, but some things go beyond superstition. After that date, the bounces will start going for the Habs.

End of the "Centenaire" I presume? A few years ago I surmised (tongue in cheek) that the Habs woes were probably due to Molson and Corey, knowingly building the Molson Centre on sacred Iroquois burial grounds. How's that for superstitious? Sadly, with each passing game, I find it a little more unsettling.

Head west, young Dogs, head west!!
Off to Abbotsford for games on Tues and Wed, and then off to the 'Peg for Friday and Saturday night tilts against the Moose.
As the Bulldogs head out on a four day western Canadian swing, they do so coming off a promising game against Syracuse on Saturday night, getting a 5-1 victory in front of Cedric Desjardins. The team will likely have Sanford back for the road trip as he was with his wife last week as they welcomed their third child into the hockey world. He also spent a lot of time in Winnipeg with the Moose last season, so no doubt has had this road trip circled for a while.
The Dogs are still without a number of guys due to injury (the hardest hit is leading goal scorer Mathieu Darche) and callups, and they likely will be dressing less than a full lineup of skaters this road trip as a result (how often do you see that this early in the season?).
The Dogs finally got some offense going as the return of David Desharnais after his long injury seemed to wake Mike Glumac up, as he got his first goal earlier in the week and had two more on Saturday. Glumac, Desharnais and Trotter were reunited this weekend, from a line that played a lot of last season together with great success. Desharnais ended up the night with a goal as well. The Dogs also got good scoring from their other offensive line of Maxwell, Sergei and Russell, as they each had two points from Russell's two goals on Saturday.
Keep playing hard boys!!

I watched him a fair bit at the WJC the last couple of years. I wouldn't say he has lousy hockey IQ. On a scale of one to ten, I'd rank him around a 5 to 5.5. Not great by any sense, but not terrible either. Adequate, certainly and his physical skills can make up for some deficiency. I'd heard that O'Byrne had really poor hockey sense, but I haven't seen evidence of that either. Mostly he was just awkward as hell. So, please let us know what you think of Subban (and everyone else), gf25, after the game. Thanks.
