Relax, our next 3rd liner is indeed playing in Hamilton. He helped the Dogs win 4-0 against the Adirondack Chairs, though he didn't get any points. Desjardins with another shutout, Desharnais with a couple of points. If Pouliot was called Despouliot, he'd probably have scored tonight, it seemed to be a good Des day. theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1006479Speaking of Desjardins, here's a kid who won a Memorial cup, who won the ECHL championship and who had a decent chance at winning a Calder Cup this year. I like winners. Here's a snapshot of his career: hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=70674What I like about his progression is that he keeps getting better. Each year in the AHL he played more games and improved his save percentage and GAA, nice and steady. He's only 24, which is the same age as Halak. What I really like about him is that when the game is on the line, he seems able to come through. When the Remparts won the Mem Cup, he wasn't exactly a heralded goalie. But he came out a winner. Same thing with the 2007-08 Cincinnati Cyclones. They had an excellent ECHL team that year, and Desjardin did not falter in the playoffs, helping to win the Kelly Cup. Desharnais and Russell were also on that squad. I believe he has become a serious prospect. I have been very pleasantly surprised by his play this year. After last year where he was very incosistant I didn't see no future for him in Montreal. I am not sure but perhaps he realized this is a made or break season or perhaps it's the coaching changes with both new head and goalie coaches this season. Its also very important to remember that Desjardins is playing very well, but the bulldogs are playing outstanding defense. I just wish Maxwell could take some pointers as I thought he would be dominate this year and has disappointed me so far. I'm finding it difficult to evaluate offensive prospects due to how low-scoring the Bulldogs as a team are. Maxwell's 18 points are good enough for 2nd in team scoring. I wonder if Brock Trotter might get a call-up at some point this season. He's certainly scoring better than anyone else, and I believe his waiver exemption will be up after this season.

Well, it was not by a shutout, but it was still a convincing 4-1 tonight as the Dogs put another two points in the bank against the Hartford Wolf Pack. More importantly, they got their 40th and 41st point of the season to put them in a divisional first place tie with Rochester. Guess who they play tomorrow afternoon? Should be a good one. Sanford with the win, and third star. PK Subban had a goal and two assists, to vault him into the first star of the evening, and David Desharnais extended his goal scoring streak to 6 games. Mathieu Carle and Ryan White had the other Dogs goals. www.hamiltonbulldogs.com/article/bulldogs-tame-wolf-pack-with-4-1-win

Dogs win a thrilla in Rochester 5-4 in OT. With the win they move into first in the division for the first time all season. Remarkable game where the Dogs outplayed the Amerks all game but Rochester kept getting the bounces and kept tying the game back up. Mathieu Darche the OT hero with his hat trick goal to go along with one assist. His linemate Benny Pouliot looked really good, as he had a team high 7 shots and one goal and two helpers. He is getting his game back, the guy has skills. Desjardins in net for the win.
Pouliot looks like he is ready for the callup. Heck, so does Darche.

Darche gets the first star today and Benny P with the second. Nice chemistry between those two as the Dogs were flying today outshooting Rochester 45-26. That is the 24th time in 31 games the Dogs have held the shot advantage. When you combine the leads lowest goals against, you can see some of the reasons they are playing well and winning games.
Dogs get a nice break and don't play again until next Saturday, in Rochester, against these same Amerks.

Subban continued his tear with 2 assists (and 7! SOG) last night. 4G 6A, +8, 28 SOG, 6PIM (by my count, anyway) in 9 games since getting ripped to shreds by gf25. Only 2 points (both assists) have been on the PP, interestingly enough. Subban's cooled down a bit. 1G 2A +4 5 SOG in 4 games since this post with all the points coming in Saturday's game. Subban didn't play on Friday for some reason.

Looks like they were rotating different folks in and out of the press box with three games on the road in three nights, and with a relatively healthy roster for the first time all season (when you also add Pyatt back as well). Nice problem to have, hope they have it for the rest of the season!!

In watching last night's game against Rochester, I couldn't help thinking what would happen if the Habs adopted a similar style of play. The Dogs style of aggressive forecheck and non stop effort made them a relentless opponent. The Amerks had all they could handle. The game was nowhere near as close as the score indicated, imo.

It sounds very much like Boucher's style is similar to Mike Keenan's, with that aggressive forecheck. It's a difficult style to play physically because it's wearing and you have to be in great shape. It also seems you need to have a coach who can really get commitment from his players to make it work, but when it does, it's very successful. Keenan was able to get that from his players early in his career and then it wore off. Many of his players tended to dislike him intensely, and that doesn't seem to be an issue for Boucher. A better, brighter Keenan (in the good ways)

They are relentless in their pursuit of the puck, and anywhere on the ice. They take time and space away from teams constantly. A lot more entertaining than the mother ship, no doubt about it. The score was very generous to Rochester.

Bulldogs fall 4-2 to Rochester on the road last night. Amerks scored the last three goals of the game, depsite being outshot by the Dogs 47-23 on the night. Sanford takes the loss, and Darche and Benoit get the goals. www.hamiltonbulldogs.com/article/bulldogs-edged-4-2-by-americansNext up are those darn Marlies tomorrow night. Let's hope for a nice win against the arch rivals in blue and white.

Dogs snap their one game losing streak with a win tonight against the Marlies 5-2. Desjardins in net for the win. Desharnais, with two goals and an assist, and the remaining goals were from Subban, Weber and Conboy. Conboy also had a scrap and Stewie had a pair of tilts. Three points back of Rochester in the division, with two games in hand. theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1006537

Excellent. IIRC, those AHL all star games are miles apart from the NHL version. These guys actually want to win and impress, so it isn't a skate in the park kind of game. If it's televised, I'd appreciate knowing who's carrying it. Tks.

If it's televised, I'd appreciate knowing who's carrying it. Tks. Its usually televised on Sportsnet ..... Saw the All-Star game live when it was here ... it was entertaining. But the first two periods were just skating and scoring chances akin to the NHL version. The third period you could tell they were playing to win ...

None of the Dogs named to the Planet USA team for the All star game (the US and rest of the world team). Not surprising, considering the makeup of the Dogs is mainly from north of the border. The Dogs won the latest in the battle of the best tonight 4-1 against Rochester. Desjardins just keeps it going as he got the win tonight in a battle of the top two in the division. Seems like Boucher has that enviable 1a and 1b goalie situation going now. Wyman and Johansson had 1+1 and Weber had 2 helpers in the win. Darche and Trotter had the other two goals. Desjardins, Wyman and Swede Johansson swept the three stars. Did not watch the game due to the Habs game so just reporting the facts man, just the facts. theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1006550

i think this naysayer was talking about his play in the defensive zone and decisions with the puck, and actually stated that he was good on the pp and in the offensive zone showed some talent. maybe the 25 bad decisions out of 30 pk made was just really bad timing and was his one off game of the season mentally. i guess pk will be called up very soon then, this naysayer won't be holding his breath. I haven't seen too much written about Subban lately and I have yet to see him live (although I hope to remedy that soon) but looking at his stats he must be doing something right in both ends of the rink. He's tied for sixth in scoring for d-men (23 pts vs. 25 for the leader) and he has a significant lead over all players in +/-, with a +23 vs. +18 for the next best. Perhaps he was a little tentative early on as a first-year pro and has become more comfortable as the season has progressed.

Bulldogs are 8-2 in their last 10, have 49 points, now sit atop their Division and second overall in the AHL, one point behind the Hershey Bears.
Boucher and company have these kids playing some inspired hockey.

Yep, it's not like some of the more successful teams in the AHL, who aren't really grooming players for the big club, but rather have 25-30 year olds through the line-up. Boucher is doing a great job. We won't be able to keep him down for too long, one more year maybe.

Dogs lose 3-2 to Lake Erie at home today. Wyman and Maxwell with the goals, Desjardins in net for the loss. Dogs outshot the Monsters 33-16 but were stoned by a solid goaltending at the other end of the ice.
Sanford was injured in the first period of the New Year's eve game. He has a shoulder injury as is expected to be out for a couple of weeks. The Dogs have called up Robert Mayer from Cincy to backup Desjardins while Sanford is out. Swedish forward Johansson is also expected to miss this weekend's game too, as he is injured again (it has been a real problem for him this year, in his first year in NA).

Went down to Steeltown to see the game. The Dogs never really seemed to be in the game, despite the SOG advantage. They only had one or two really good chances before they finally scored with a couple of minutes left. Lake Erie did a good job of keeping the front of their net clear and most of the Dogs' chances came from the perimeter. That said, I was really impressed with Subban. He is very strong on his skates and has great puck control. He looked solid defensively (I recall one play where he grabbed the puck in front of his own net and instead of panicking he kept control of the puck and moved it a bit before clearing it out of harm's way). He made an outstanding end-to-end rush (starting behind his own net) to set up the Dogs' first goal. The word that comes to mind to describe his skating style is "gangly" - at first glance he looks like he's labouring to stay on his feet but don't let that fool you. He's very strong and well-balanced. This kid is going to be alright!

Dogs beat the ageless Chris Chelios and the Chicago Wolves 3-1 tonight in Steeltown. Subban (on the PP), Desharnais and White (empty netter) had the Dogs' goals. Desjardins picked up the win. Full marks for the win as the Dogs carried the play early and really came out flying in the first. With that goal, PK is now tied for the AHL lead in goals by a defenseman and with his assist on Whitey's goal, he is now just one point back from the AHL lead in points by a defenseman. Impressive pro debut as Boucher even had him out on the PK as well tonight. theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1006593
