Chelios was picked up for DUI on Dec. 28 at 4 am....he may be ageless...but that certainly doesn't bring brains in all cases.
WESTMONT, Ill. -- Former NHL defenceman Chris Chelios was arrested last month and charged with drunk driving and speeding in suburban Chicago.
Westmont police say the 47-year-old Chelios, who now plays for the AHL's Chicago Wolves, was driving alone in his pickup truck when he was pulled over shortly after 4 a.m. on Dec. 28 for speeding and improper lane usage. He was arrested on a drunk driving charge and taken into custody.
Chelios posted bond and was released pending a Feb. 1 court appearance.
The Wolves declined to comment yesterday and said Chelios is with the team in Canada for a game and can't be reached for comment. Chicago was in Hamilton to face the Bulldogs.
Jan. 7th Toronto Sun
A few questions. Why doesn't he hang up the skates? He had a great career...why end it in the minors, riding a bus? Does he have a promise/hope to be recalled to the bigs?

He had a great career...why end it in the minors, riding a bus? Does he have a promise/hope to be recalled to the bigs? On December 11, 2009 it was reported that Chelios had declined offers to play for a certain NHL team, and to stick with the Wolves. On December 28, 2009 Chelios signed a second 25 game pro try out contract. Both of the above quotes are from Wiki. The first is attributed to a CP report, the second to a Chicago Now [website] report. So who knows what's up with Chelly? And hey, he's even older than me, so *maybe* he should retire And yes, he should not be out driving after drinking, that's a given...

A good piece on PK Subban from Mathias Brunet in La Presse, a guy who writes more than his share of good pieces. www.cyberpresse.ca/sports/hockey/201001/07/01-936846-des-eloges-pour-pk-subban.phpI think the comments from Coach Boucher are very insightful, when he talks about the difference in making mistakes that cost you the game in the NHL versus the AHL. It sure sounds like the organization is taking a very structured approach to Subban's development, and from watching him play lately and all the good stats he is putting up, it seems to be working. Take advantage of his strengths and work on his deficiencies, sounds like a plan to me.

yep from my one game scouting him he has a ton of work to do, but then again you can never get a scouting report from one game, but he sure wasn't impressing with his d-zone iq, to say the very least.

Some more folks taking notice of the recent good run by Cedrick Desjardins, as Hockey's Future named him as their prospect of the month, knocking off some heady company as Jordan Eberle had taken the honour the two previous months. Of equally interesting note, PK Subban also gets honourable mention. www.hockeysfuture.com/articles/11746/prospect_of_the_month_december2009/

What team is 14-3-1-0 in their last 18 games? Yup, that would be your very own Hamilton Bulldogs after a nice 3-1 victory over the Lake Erie Monsters on Friday night. Trotter, Maxwell and Darche (empty netter) with the goals, Desjardins with 26 saves for the win. Maxwell's 1+1 and Desjardins solid effort in net earned them the top two stars. Subban assisted on Darche's empty netter for his second straight game with an assist in the last minute of play. www.hamiltonbulldogs.com/article/bulldogs-munch-monsters-3-1

Make that 15-3-1-0 in their past 19. Dogs beat the Grand Rapids Griffons 5-2 tonight on the backs of huge output from both Brock Trotter and Mike Glumac. Trotter had the hat trick tonight, 3+1 for four points, and the top star. Glumac had a balanced 2+2 night and the second star. Some guy named Desjardins was in net for the win. Dogs now 10 points up on the Moose for first in their division and only 3 points back of the Hershey Bears for top bragging rights in the entire AHL. www.hamiltonbulldogs.com/article/bulldogs-take-down-griffins-with-5-2-win

Some AHL teams develop players for their parent clubs and others are more intent on winning. Just for interest sake, I checked out the 2 rosters. Hershey has 8 out of 26 players born in 1987 or later, so they'd be 22 years old minimum and likely a prospect.....30.8%, not bad. The Dogs have 10 out of 25 players or 40% in that category. Better.

Dogs in a mini funk right now, with third straight loss (two in either OT or SO though). They lost 6-5 is a SO tonight, with Desjardins giving up five in regulation tonight. Desharnais had three helpers and hot stick Brock Trotter had 2 goals and one assist tonight. He must be top of the list for the next call up methinks.

I was at the game tonight. It was entertaining pond hockey. Back and forth all night. Trotter really stood out as did Maxwell who tied it with under 2 minutes left to make it exciting. Desjardins was average at best. The American goalie's name is Salak which I found amusing. 2 of the American goals were as a result of broken sticks. The first one was Henry stepped on a broken stick in his own zone and fell allowing the American to walk passed him uncontested and pass it to a teammate for a tap-in. The other was Weber winding up at his blue line and shattering his stick on a slapshot and falling in the process, causing a 2 on 1 the other way that they made Desjardins look silly on. Ultimately the Dogs were lucky to get a point after being down by 2 early in the 3rd. Desjardins made a slick pad save with a few seconds left to preserve the tie but was terrible in the shootout, allowing 3 goals on 4 shots (I didn't realize they go to 5 shooters in the A). Subban had a brief scuffle after Desjardins was knocked over at one point. I liked what I saw from him tonight. Copps was about 80% full (they only open the lower bowl) which was nice to see in light of all this attendance talk. Despite the loss, I'm sure most fans went home pretty happy. It was definitely entertaining.

No problem. I wanted to mention how disappointing I thought Weber was. Has he been hurt this year? He scored once but looked bad for the most part. And it was only his 3rd of the year. For a PP quarterback I wasn't impressed at all. They used Subban a lot in front of the net on the PP too which I found interesting. He seemed to be doing it all out there.

Weber has had a year of struggles for sure. He seemed to be getting it back together there for a stretch, but not what you would expect. As for Subban, they seem to like him in a "rover" kind of role as well as the point guy on the PP. His mobility enables him to play that middle of the zone well enough.

Interesting article in the Hamilton Spectator yesterday on Boucher.Apparently Subban got kicked out of practice. Seems like he takes no crap from the players. He's big on work ethic, attitude and discipline. Similar to Carbonneau in a way............. just hope he doesn't lose the room like Carbo did in Montreal. Carbo got to the point where he was just unfair with his players. Quote from the article about Subban and Boucher incident: "The bench boss raised his voice repeatedly during the 11/2-hour workout and players who made mistakes were often forced to do pushups on the ice. At one point, Boucher even threw defenceman P.K. Subban off the ice, telling him to go to the dressing room and not come back. The incident, which happened late in the practice, occurred when Subban broke a stick in anger. He threw the pieces onto the bench and one piece ricocheted back onthe ice narrowly missing the coach." www.thespec.com/article/703967

In my older age, I have come to the realization that displays of anger and frustration are useless. You'd think it would make you feel better, but it doesn't. In fact it probably does the reverse, getting you even more worked up. Not only that, but after you've punched that hole in the wall.... you have a hole in the wall you have to repair. Better to take some deep breaths, repeat Ommm, over and over and get back to that Zen place that feels much better.
If PK can learn that early on, it will help him a lot.

interesting, 17, especially since some believe that Price should show more emotion and get mad after he lets in a goal.
but you are right: anger breeds anger and a loss of focus.

I'm not sure if the rest of us actually advocate the breaking of things [sticks come to mind], but I for one, feel pretty darn good after letting fly with stuff it! [that was purposely edited to reflect that this is supposed to be family board] Price should show a bit of emotion, yes. Breaking of sticks, flinging equipment around, punching holes into walls... not quite so much. A well-timed curse... why not?

Mathieu Carle, who I think has been great this season, is about to have season-ending shoulder surgery. The guy has had quite the string of bad luck when it comes to serious injuries, but he at least got his first cup of joe with the big boys this season and sounds optimistic about being ready for camp next fall. Tough blow for the Dogs, but they do have their other guys healthy and they will need all hands on deck through the final third of the season. It sure sounds like the "I want to be traded" talk of two years ago is long gone. www.thespec.com/article/709678

The surgery probably is the best thing in the long run. If he's had this weakness for a while, it will have affected his play. He probably doesn't hit as hard as he would otherwise or use that shoulder as effectively as he could. He sounds optimistic about next year, for sure.

The Dogs split a pair this weekend, spanking Rochester 6-1 on Friday and then coming up short 4-3 to the Marlies last night. Never like losing to a team wearing that blue and white.
Danny Masse, a free agent signing who played in Drummondville with Coach Boucher last season saw his first action of the season, making his pro debut this weekend after a long injury. He got an assist in his first game. I would expect with a full and healthy lineup, he likely ends up in Cincy for a while.

The other little twist is that the Dogs will also lose Yannick Weber for a couple of weeks during the Olympics while he reports for duty on Team Suisse. That is 6 games where they will be down another regular. With those two guys missing, that is a fair bit of offense and transition from the back end. They still have Belle, Henry, Benoit, Subban, Anderson, and St. Denis. The can also move Wyman back there in a pinch and after that it means...get Busto from the ECHL (yikes) or sign someone to a PTO for a few games like they did with some forwards during the big injury crunch earlier this season.

The new look Dogs strike first and often tonight in a convincing 5-0 win over the Rockford Ice Hogs. Sanford with the shutout to send out a nice message that he is getting back on form, and Stewart, Conboy, Stevenson and Trotter (with two) providing the offense. Subban and Belle each had two helpers. D'Agostini and Pacioretty each had an assist in their new unis. theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1006723

A rare Thursday night game, against Nashville's farm team, the Milwaukee Admirals. PK with a goal, though most of the scoring was done by the plumbers on the team. Sanford with his second strong game in a row, and (HA will love this) Pacioretty leading the team with 7 shots. The next closest was several players at 3 shots, so it looks like Boucher has sent the message to the young man....shoot, shoot, shoot. theahl.com/stats/schedule.php

St. Denis with a pair, PK and Benoit with the singles. They beat their other Western Conference division leader, so this was a big game. A perfect sweep over the weekend on the road. 3-2 on Saturday in Chicago in a shootout and 3-2 this afternoon in Milwaukee. Desjardins got the win Saturday and Sanford today. Nice problem to have for the Dogs!! In today's game, Pacioretty got his first and Trotter rounded out the scoring with two goals (he is having a great season and is now 4th in AHL scoring). Tom Pyatt had a good game today as well picking up two assists. www.hamiltonbulldogs.com/article/bulldogs-end-road-trip-with-3-2-win-over-admirals

Dogs win another one tonight, their lone home game in a while. Final was 4-0 against San Antonio Rampage. Trotter with another mitful of points with one goal and three assists, Desharnais and Subban with goals and assists, and Glumac with the fourth goal. Sandford was in net for his fourth win in a row and second shutout in his last four starts. His four wins sandwich a win by Desjardins, so Coach Boucher is obviously trying to get the Sandman some serious ice time and starts to get him back from his shoulder injury. Once again, the Dogs are nicely placed in net with two guys playing very very solid hockey right now. They head on the road for three more to finish up their 10 out of 11 on the road. A long haul but really successful so far for the Dogs. theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1006766

Pyatt gets one on a 5 on 3 from Benoit and that PK guy. Wyman got a late one on a 5 on 4 from Russell and Pyatt. If you want to have a peek: atdhe.net/watch-american-hockey-league.php?s=americans
