Here's the AHLbox score: theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1007610The part that interested me was at the 17:10 mark of the 3rd; Schultz picked up a minor for roughing, a 5 minute major for fighting and a game misconduct for leaving the bench. Now that's my kinda guy! Looks like we were really gypped on the penalty front. Must be training NHL refs in the minors for dealing with Hab games. Especially against the Philly juniours. Patches is now 3rd in league scoring, tied with Desharnais and two other players, both with one more game each. Schultz was actually quite fortunate to get in the lineup last night as Conboy was cleared to return from his minor injury. However, Palushaj sat this one out as he tweaked that ankle that kept him out for a bit earlier this season. Hopefully it is only precautionary. I too, am glad to see Schultz "involved" in the play. With Bonneau, Henry, Conboy and Schultz in the lineup last night, no Baby Flyer was going to come anywhere our little guys like Desharnais. Schultz isn't getting a lot of ice time, so he does need to leave an impression with the coaches when he does get to play as a 20 year old rookie. As for Max, I sure hope the Habs leave him in Hamilton for a while to keep building that confidence. More of the same can only be a good thing. I expect we will see a different player next time he is called up (at least that is my biggest hope given how well he has turned on his game this season).

I expect we will see a different player next time he is called up (at least that is my biggest hope given how well he has turned on his game this season). It's great to see him put some goals on the board. From as far back as high school he was primarly ,if not only a, playmaker. I do think Desharnais's playmaking ability may be behind this recent streak of goals, but if he can help Max gain some confidence in his shooting skills (which i believe are NHL quality) then maybe he can become that powerforward we've been waiting for since......... i guess Corson was the last guy we had to play that role. Anyways I agree about keeping him in Hamilton for the forseeable future. He could be Montreal's "ace card" down the stretch or in the playoffs when we need spark or as a replacement if someone gets injuried. Brendan Nash has surprised me as I thought his signing was only a ECHL move but he's been playing a very solid two-way game. For a rookie he's pretty smart positionally and he has surprised me with a little bit of offence. Not exactly mistake free in his own zone but you have to expect some growing pains with the rookie. A big disappointment this season have to be Maxwell. He just can't tranlate his abundance of skill in any sort of offensive numbers. Seems like on most nights he just doesn't show up. I think confidence is his main stumbling block so perhaps a change of scenery is what he needs. Ohh and another observation i made this season is that Robert Mayer is one horrible goalie. Just horrible!!!

Just horrible!!! Yeah, Nash has been my most pleasant surprise this season for sure. He plays as much an all round game as any current Hamilton D man, and can only grow as he adapts to the pro game and much longer season. Maxwell is a puzzle. I just don't see his future with this club anymore as they now have better prospects options for the top six and for the bottom six. I see him being moved in a minor deal over the summer before they have to make a decision about resigning him. He looked good in preseason and then has been nothing better than ordinary with the Dogs. He should be leading the way with Desharnais on that team right now. Mayer scares me, because right now it is not a matter of "if" he gives up a softie, but "when" and "how many". I sure hope he gets better this season playing a more relaxing role as backup, because if Sanford ever got injured long term or got called up...look out!! He did improve last season in the ECHL and had a much better playoffs than regular season, so maybe he can improve as the AHL season progresses.

Ya I guess Sanford had leave after the first because he was sick. Actually a couple of guys are sick on the team according to the coach.
Well that was Mayer's best outing of the season . Shut the door for 2 periods handling all 25 shots put at him.
The Bulldogs are now tied for second overall in the AHL.

Lost a tight one to the Crunch. Sanford must still be sick, as Mayer played, allowed 3 goals on 21 shots, while the Dogs took 45 on Syracuse. All three goals for Syracuse came via PP, so the Dogs PK (where the goalie is often your best penalty killer) was not so hot. Patches and Desharnais with a goal and an assist each. As so often happens on the road, Syracuse had all 3 stars of the game (I'm still rolling on the floor. Get outshot 2 to one and you should have no stars except your goalie). theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1007655

This may sound boring, but the Dogs won in a shootout and guess who had the two regulation goals? Yuppers, #12 and 13 for big number 23. Sanford in net for the win, so good to see he is feeling better, as he made 37 saves and stopped all five SO shooters. Palushaj was back as well and got the SO winner, with Dumont adding an insurance marker. David Desharnais picked up two more points chipping in on both of MaxPac's tallies. Thanks for coming out Abbotsford. www.hamiltonbulldogs.com/article/bulldogs-cool-heat-3-2-in-a-shootout

Hamilton vs. Preoria tonight, puck drop in just over half an hour. Big battle of two teams separated only by two points in the standings. Player of the month (MaxPac) against goalie of the month (Jake Allen). Should be a good one.
Dogs are experiencing a number of injuries, so some of their younger forwards are getting forced into more playing time. Ryan White is still expected to be out for six weeks with his knee injury, Ben Maxwell is sidelined with an upper body injury, and Ryan Russell is day to day. Three pretty important parts of their forward lineup.
Defender David Urquhart got called up from Wheeling to fill in the D roster since Yannick is up with the big club, and due to the domino effect of the Markov injury news/update.

Just listened to the end of the Dogs big OT win in Rochester to snap their 3 game skid, albeit all three games by one goal (and two of them 2-1 games). All the injuries have had an impact, with Russell, White, Maxwell, St Denis and Petruic all suffering injuries and forcing the coach's hand to bring in non-regulars. White and Maxwell are still out, and Weber is still up in Montreal, so good on the Dogs to dig deep and get one tonight. Palushaj with the first star, with a 1+1 night. Mayer with 29 saves on 31 shots got the third star. Max Pac pops the game winner in OT. theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1007721EDIT: Dogs on CBC on Sunday. 1:00 pm Eastern, 11:00 am Mountain. EDIT2: That is Max Pac's 16th, now the AHL leading goal getter, tied with Andrew Gordon. He is also only one point back in that race. Amazing.

He had 8 of the Dogs 40 shots on net. That's a stat I'm really enjoying from him. No idea what Cunneyworth told him, but a month or so ago, he started going to the net and shooting. He was getting tons and tons of shots, but no goals. Then, they started going in. And now look what is happening. The kid won't be confused for a dipsy doodle perimter player right now. He had a few chances on the final play in which he scored the winner. No idea if he can convert this to success with the Habs right now, but it is worth noting. Check him out on TV on Sunday on CBC!! I have not seen him live yet this year, so just TV, internet and radio. Edit: Back to Patches, he was getting shots and no goals on the Palushaj line, and then they started coverting to points. He is now with DD, likely the best AHL playmaker going this season. But that shows he can produce with good linemates. Coach Cunneyworth is speaking very highly of his play, so he must be on the big radar screen. I say...take a breath and still don't rush it. He does not have to clear waivers until next season, so they can ease him in later this season, and in the right role. Problem is, JM is not a fan of giving prime time ice time to kids. It does seem to work in the long run for the most part, but it sure takes some serious adjusting for a kid coming from being a stud to a part-time player.

Toronto Marlies at Hamilton Bulldogs 1:00 pm - Watch on CBC :-) Players i will keep an eye on. Max Pac- nice to see him play without Desharnais. Assuming Desharnais is not back yet. Mathieu Carle- I think if Subban continues to struggle Carle would be in line to replace him assuming Spacek is out indefinitely on the Habs. Carle needs a shot as I think he is NHL quality d-man and he is ready. Brendon Nash- just a good all round defenseman who came out of nowhere. Andrew Conboy- instigating forward whose play improved dramatically from last year. Alexander Avtsin- the guys on HF boards love this guy. Has skill needs consistancy.

Nash had that huge hit in the second which lead to a Hamilton goal. Could be a prospect, i think?!?!
I didn't ever expect goals like this from Max Pac. He was always a playmaker. Hope this builds confidence to use his shot and tenacity in front of the net to score goals.

Olivier Fortier with a hat trick while Max Pacioretty scored his league-leading 17th goal to win the game 5-1 for the ‘Dogs. I think the Marlies where tired as they arrived only this morning for the game while the Bulldogs had yesterday off. Fun game to watch if your a Bulldog fan.
Nash played a good solid game. Conboy played little but was effective agitating presence when he was on the ice. Max Pac and Desharnais are dominate again. But Fortier stole the show with his 4 points(3 goals and 1 assist).

Watched my first Bulldogs game today. Loved to see the Marlies get beat. A few observations based solely on one game. 1. St. denis has a great transition game. 2. Desharnais is the most impressive player on the team, excellent vision, always hustling, fast and plays two ways getting back to play defensively when warranted. 3. Fortier was great, not only because of a hat trick and four points, but he had good positioning and is smart. It's easy to look good and be motivated on a night where you post a hat trick, but he looked good even before he scored. 4. Avtsin has good individual skills but has to learn poitioning and the use of his teamates. 5. Enqvist is a good two way player. 6. Palusaj is fast. 7. Carle makes mistakes. 8. Dumont really backchecks when he is on the ice. 9. Henry is slow. 10. Bonneau lacks NHL skills. 11. Conboy. Did he play? I didn't notice him at all! 12. Cubertanz has some skill and will take time to reach the next level. 13. Last but not least; Pacioretty, picked up points being big and in the right place where Desharnais can find him. Desharnais is the only one that is ready to step up and help the big team. He is a perfect replacement for Gomez. Maxpac can use some more seasoning. He produces at the AHL level and will be ready to step up next year to play a key role. He's bigger than our smurfs but not a classic power forward.

St. Louis is an elite skater. DD is about NHL average or slightly above average. Not a true speedster. His vision is the best part of his game, I think.

I would agree with 17's assessment, you really have to watch DD shift in and shift out to marvel at his hockey sense and vision. His speed is decent enough, but not elite. He is strong on his skates for a small guy, and those two elements set him apart from a guy like Corey Locke IMO.
DD has been a huge part of MaxPac's success this season, but Max has also made adjustments and improvements in his game. He now goes to the net more, shoots more, and generally is a better positional player than he was before. More importantly, his shots go in now which they haven't done with any consistency so far in his two previous full pro seasons.

Some issues with depth this season unlike the last couple of years when Cicinnatti was the 'Dogs affiliate. With Max's recall and Maxwell ,White and Petrucic injuries there a lack of depth on which the Dogs can rely on. We only have Dany Massé and Sébastien Bisaillon in Wheeling so if anyone else goes down there is a chance for some PTO's to be signed. Edit: Dustin Boyd has been placed on waivers > maybe some help on the way?

Maxwell is expected to be back before White, and I am not sure the time frame on Petruic. During yesterday's game, they hinted Maxwell could be back this week. That would help, as would Dustin Boyd filling in on Max's spot. Masse, Bisaillon and Delmas are the only three signed players (on either NHL or AHL contracts) not up in either the NHL or AHL. The Dogs also have Ian Schultz who was a healthy scratch in yesterday's game, but they head out at the end of the week on a crazy road trip to Oklahoma/Texas where they play three in three and four in five on that trip. They have one at home this Wednesday and then it is off for that long trek that starts on Friday night.

Based on one game: DD looks much faster than the Toronto Marlies who were trying to cover him; does that make him a great skater?? not sure, but he gets where he wants to go ahead of his cover. DD has extraordinary vision. His passes are right on the tape so the shot can be taken in stride. He doesn't look where he is passing, but like Peyton Manning he stares at a spot, forces the "D" to move over and passes to the now wide open Bulldog. Gretzky wasn't the biggest, fastest hardest shooting player in the NHL but he used his knowledge of the positioning of all 12 guys on the ice and made great decisions about what was about to happen. DD isn't the second coming, but he makes up for his size with his smarts. Marty St. Louis is both quicker and faster but DD seems to have more hockey smarts. Both are small but St. Louis seems to be heavier and plays more physical while DD is better at avoiding contact while still getting to the open slot. DD also busts his ass backchecking instead of strolling back out of the attacking zone. Fortier had a hatrick and a four point night and DD still looked like the most ready player. Fortier works hard and deserves everything he gets. It's just one game but that's what I saw.

Fortier works hard and this is the first time I have seen him given any top line time (and it was on the PP only, as he went back to his regular line 5 on 5). He came into the game with two points on the season in a defensive forward role (his forte) and left the game having tripled his seasonal output. Not many players enjoy games like that. He sure made the coaching staff look pretty darn astute. Good for him, he had a great game. With Maxwell out, other guys are getting time on the top two lines, and getting a bit of a free peek by the coaches. As great as that is for the players, I do hope they get Maxwell back soon (especially leading up to this big road trip to Texas).

He didn't deke like Eller or rifle a shot like Kostitsyn. He worked, crashed the net and banged the puck in from the crease. Fortier works hard, both ways. When I see Moen put on the #1 line, he doesn't contribute to the scoring but he does make up for defensive diffiencies of his linemates. i'm not sure if a scoring line needs a checker or is better served with a third playmaker. DD is a wizard with the puck. After watching one game, I'm not relly ready to start coaching the team.

Boyd added to the team, that will help fill the void from Pacioretty's call up as they head off on their big Texas road swing. Three games in three nights start tonight. Hoepfully Maxwell is ready to go soon as well.

The road trip starts off well for the Dogs against the Baby Oil in Oklahoma City. 3-0 good guys, backstopped by Curtis Sandford's first shutout of the season. DD had one goal and one assist, Dustin Boyd scored in his first Hamilton game (call him up, he is on a tear!!), and Ben Maxwell scored in his first game back from injury. Off to Texas next. Three in the next four nights after tonight. The boys got to play against old teammates Greg Stewart and Shawn Belle, and beat up on Marty Gerber and the other Oiler hopeful. Two nights on the road, two wins for the Dogs. 3-2 OT victory in Austin tonight against the Houston Stars. The Dogs were down 2-0 late in the third and were getting stoned all night by the Stars goalie Richard Bachman. Wyman finally broke the goose egg with just over 6 minutes left in the game. Boyd then tied it late in the third on a PP, and then won it in OT too. Boyd and the two goalies were the three stars. theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1007782Really good back and forth game, and that is now three goals in two games for Boyd, so he is nicely helping on the offense in Max's absence. Maxwell also had a helper tonight, so his return from injury is helping on the scoresheet as well.
