The Habs annual summer Development camp for its newest recruits and prospects starts at the end of this week. If the summer progresses as in the past, we will likely see a Rookie Camp in early September with the Rookie Tourney right after (it was in Ottawa last season). I would imagine a roster of the youngsters coming to the Development Camp will be out shortly. Here is a link to its reference on the Habs site, in the last paragraph at the bottom. www.canadiens.com/eng/news/redirect.cfm?sectionID=habsNewsDetails.cfm&newsItemID=3846I still think we will see a Rookie Camp, even with the CBA uncertainty. I know Bettman has said that main camps won't run if the CBA renewal isn't reached, but the kids at the Rookie Camp aren't affected by the CBA as it is generally our unsigned juniors and those newly signed and ready to go to Hamilton. Last year's Ottawa Rookie Tourney was restricted to players who had not played a full season in the AHL. I sure hope that isn't the last time we see players suited up in their Habs jerseys this year!!

OK, now we can see the drafted centers go head-to-head with themselves and the walk-ons. May the best ones win.

I'm really happy to see Olivier Labelle getting a try-out. I've seen this kid play quite a few times and he always bring a lot of heart et determination to the ice. Pretty good scorer too and reliable in the defensive zone. Loves to hit but his skating is a bit of a problem.

This year, the annual rookie tournament will feature the Canadiens, the Ottawa Senators, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Florida Panthers, and will be held from Sept. 10-14 at the Sportplexe 4-Glaces, in Pierrefonds.
How many people can you sit at the 4-Glaces?

Possible rookie tournament lineup?
Lambert-Locke-Kastsitsyn D.Stewart-Urquhart-Ferland Larrivee-Lapierre-Labelle (La La La) Bonneau-Chipchura-Petit (G.Stewart)-(Godin)
Korpikari-O'Byrne Cote-Archer Magnan-Flood (Dulac-Lemelin)
Danis Halak (Heino-Lindberg) (Lacasse)
This lineup is based on the players' current development, not where they project to be when they reach the NHL. Locke is the oldest of the centers, and he has led the OHL in scoring two years in a row. Against the quality and age of players he'll face in the tournament, he should continue to dominate. So he gets top line minutes with AK.
I think this lineup should fare well. Good size and skill up front, with a couple of potential game breakers in Locke and Kastsisyn, as well as defensive awareness down the middle with Lapierre and Chip. Top-notch goaltending. Solid, though unspectacular, defense.
It's a shame that Korneev wasn't making the trip. And it's a real surpise to see nine-lives Larrivee at yet another summer development camp. He must be the oldest guy there.

Freaky Habs Fan on HFBoards found a an article about a player called Christian-Pierre Godin. The best part is that he plays for the Paramédic de Saguenay in the Quebec Senior Hockey League. Call the paramedics, he won't be able to keep up with the young guys!!
I guess we will just have to wait and see if this is the same guy.

Korneev just resigned with AK Bars, so maybe they didn't want him to come over, or he felt he didn't need to come over since he'll be in the RSL next year. I'm just guessing.

The wait is over...Habs announce that their two top Quebec Senior League scouts, Estragon and Vladimir, have unearthed a gem in Godin. When asked, this is what they had to say: Estragon: Sure he is not ranked by the CSS, they have their rankings and we have ours. Vladimir: The Paramédic de Saguenay play a sound defensive first style of game, so he will be able to fit in with both CJ and Jarvis' game plans. He usually buys the first round of Ex after the game, so he is also a good locker-room guy too.

Some of the resourceful folks at HF have uncovered some dirt on our International Man of Mystery. Sounds like a Tier II undrafted prospect to me.
"Godin is a Saguenay native who played with the Chicoutimi's Stade Junior BB(like Junior Tiers II) two years ago and with the Jonquiere's Gaillards(Collegial) three years ago. I don't have more info on him."
"Godin played for the Senior AA Jonquiere's Peinture LSB. In 12 matchs, 4 goals and 5 assists. He had a call of a team from San Diego in mid-season, but he prefered to stay in Saguenay. He's not a player with big skating ability and with team spirit, but he have a big hockey sense."

Speaking of golf, I notice that the 20 year old Michaud is deemed to need no development at this level. I noticed that as well. I am sure that management would like to see how he stacks up against some of his budding competition in our young goaltending prospects, and against his direct competition in the much heralded Danis. I guess that will all take place in the fall at the Rookie Camp and Main Camp (if the latter takes place, if not at the Dogs' main camp).

Since our boys will be playing against the best young hopefuls of Toronto, Ottawa and Florida in early September, here are their development camp lineups. www.ottawasenators.com/news/press/2004/nr0629.arowww.flpanthers.com/pressbox/news/070704tcamp.shtmlwww.mapleleafs.com/story.ml?title=Press_Releases&ctype=Press_Releases&n=4617&e=AdminGroupSome interesting observations: - Ottawa sure likes to draft from US colleges and from the US Tier I and Tier II junior ranks these days. A big team, has some good talent in net, on D, and up front, but lacks the depth of our prospect team IMO. Lyamin is missing, and would make this a much tougher team in September. - Florida would be a much better team with Anthony Stewart on it, and we may see him yet in the fall at the tourney. Decent team, should be a good yardstick against which our boys can measure themselves. - Toronto should not strike fear into anyone. Good D depth, but glarily lacking depth in net and up front. Not having early round picks for the last few seasons has really hurt the Leafs' younger prospect depth and talent pool, but their older defensive prospects are really quite good.

The centre of the universe shall unravel as it should. If the rule is the same as last year and teams can only field players who have less than 1 year AHL playing time, then the Leafs will have to pass on Wellwood, Bell and Carlo Coco. That is a pretty weak team sans le trio.
