Lapointe and Breezer spent time with the team, in practice and in the game. Marty even was behind the bench during the game (not sure if it was the whole game). Larry Carriere was also watching the game.
The brass are watching and not sitting idly by.
Now if they can keep sprinkling offensive fairy dust on the team, things might be a little rosier for the rest of the season. We shall see.
Congrats to Pateryn on his first AHL goal too.

I think the person they might be watching is Lefevbre. He didn't impress me when I saw the Dogs play a couple of month ago. This whole letting an assistant go for philosophical differences mid season is a little odd and it was strange how Commodore was let go despite the fact that he was doing a decent job mentoring Tinordi. There's not a whole lot of development going on when players like Stortini get a lot of ice time.
I'm not an expert by any means and I may be out to lunch on this one, but I sense that the team and the coach are not in sync.

You are hitting the mark on this one IMO.

A tight 2-1 win last night against the Texas Stars means the Dogs have won two if their last three. Defenseman Greg Pateryn with his second AHL goal had the GWG and Mayer got the win. Baby steps from this struggling team.
P.S. Big win too as the Stars have the AHL's best record. That makes this win even sweeter.

Make that 3 in the last four for the Dogs with a 3-2 win over the tough Marlies. Nate the Skate with the game winner. Dumont with three assists and Mayer with the big win.
Still dead last in the standings, but gaining some ground.

Make that 4 out of the last 5 with a 3-2 shoot out victory against the Hershey Bears last night. Chapult (24 year old free agent from Montreal that we signed to an AHL contract this season) and Leblanc with the goals. Both also scored in the shootout. Mayer with the win and 34 saves. Here are the highlights. Nice moves by Leblanc in the shootout. www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4n_yA66fVM&feature=player_embedded

Rochester thoroughly dominated the Baby Habs this afternoon, winning 2-0 and outshooting the Dogs 49-30. Not much to like on the farm from what I saw (spent the afternoon wishing I had stayed home). Tokarski is not the answer (question: who will be Price's backup in the future) despite being the second star today (not sure how that came about, unless they felt sorry for all the rubber that he faced). Beaulieu sure needs some work. He may have good offensive skills but defensively he's at best a work in progress. He needs to bulk up some so he isn't pushed around so much in his own end (and so he can do some pushing of his own). I didn't really notice Tinordi much today, but that may be a good thing given how poorly most of the team played. The only player I was at all impressed with was Morgan Ellis. He was easily the best Bulldog today.

The "save of the game" as shown on the scoreboard near the end of the game was a shot by a Rochester player at a completely open net (Tokarski was in a butterfly against the far post) that was shot directly into Tokarski's pad - he was completely out of position. He looked very shaky most of the time. I think it was more of a case of Rochester shooting at him than anything else. Granted, he did make a couple of very good saves, but if you face enough shots that's bound to happen. This was the first time I've seen him so don't read a lot into my comments - one game is a pretty small sample. But it wasn't a particularly impressive "sample" from my perspective.

Would Bournival be a future Prust type?

Bournival doesn't have a mean streak.
I'd liken him more to a Plekanec than a Prust.

Dogs beat St. John's last night 4-3 behind a solid two goal performance by Nathan Beaulieu. Joe Stejskal also scored his first AHL goal. Mayer was in net for the Dogs win. Chaput had a nice wrister for the only goal from a forward last night. Some news on Mayer as he recently signed a two year deal in the Swiss league starting next season. I expect some beefing up of the goaltending depth over the summer. Mayer is actually the second Swiss born prospect to bolt or to be bolting back home this season. Earlier this year, young winger Berger opted to sign in the Swiss league rather than report to the ECHL. He is no longer counting against the 50 cap limit, so some more flex for the Berg and team to add some new blood over the summer. www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRrPCowuUX4&feature=player_embedded

It's hard to find a comparison for Bournival. If he keeps improving his defense, he could become a Carbonneau type. He has better offensive skills than he's showing so far in Hamilton. He is not a fighter, though not afraid of work along the boards or going to dirty areas. He's very quick, a good skater and a very good passer.

Leblanc's production is horrible this year. I know the whole team is struggling to score, but I would expect more than 11 points in 39 games.

Gauthier knew this when he got him from Colorado and I think he's suited to a checking role. Still, Ryan O'Byrne is doing very well in Colorado. I dare say the Avs got the better of that deal, at least up to this point. Hopefully Bournival will show some of what it takes to make to the show. But, the organization has been drafting very well of late. It's possible that Bournival may be one of several kids who get caught up and passed in the talent pool. Cheers.

HHHHMMMMMM......why would that be? The way Dumont plays, he's an ideal 4th line centre. But White has that job, no? Qu' est que c'est?

Well, with Nokelainen and Bourque out because of injuries, if anyone else is "questionable" they'll want to have a plan B.
Say Prust is playing hurt, and it's not certain that he'll be able to play, it's safer to have an extra forward in the warmup...

I'd liken him more to a Plekanec than a Prust. Could he be another Keane as doesn't have Plekanec offensive numbers in AHL? I think Bournival is closer to a Jay McClement..... good two-way faceoff guy..... but not talented enough to be on the top two lines. if your looking for a Mike Keane......Maybe Leblanc fits that type of player better

These are comments I like to hear. www.lapresse.ca/sports/hockey/201303/08/01-4629195-un-air-de-deja-vu-pour-cedrick-desjardins.php?utm_categorieinterne=trafficdrivers&utm_contenuinterne=cyberpresse_B9_sports_257_accueil_POS3Cedrick Desjardins was called up recently and could be facing the Habs on Saturday. In an interview, he said that player development comes first with Lefebvre and winning, second. «L'approche de Sylvain Lefebvre est vraiment axée sur le développement des joueurs et non sur la victoire au prochain match, a-t-il expliqué. C'était la première fois que je vivais ça, mais ça s'est bien passé.»He also talked about Tinordi and his natural leadership qualities. There was a reason why he got named assistant captain right away. Speaking of Pateryn, he said he was playing a mistake-free game. He thinks he was physically above the other defensemen in Hamilton. With his good vision and rugged play, he could be useful to the Habs.

On of my favourite team names in hockey is the Peoria Rivermen. (The Albany River Rats is another great name), and the Rivermen played our own Dogs tonight, and were kind enough to lose. Patrick Holland with 2 goals, Mayer with the win and first star. Bournival had another assist and was +2. Pretty good line for the Dogs right now, Holland, Bournival and Joey Tenute (who is not a prospect at 5'9" and nearly 30 years of age). theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1010734

19 year old centre, Brady Vail has been signed to an amateur tryout contract with the Dogs. His season with the Windsor Spitfires is over and the did not make the playoffs. The Habs are able to extend his season by getting him on the Dogs on a ATO. They don't have to sign him to his entry level deal until the summer of 2014, so this is some bonus hockey for him and the Habs brass get a closer look against tougher competition.
