19 year old centre, Brady Vail has been signed to an amateur tryout contract with the Dogs. His season with the Windsor Spitfires is over and the did not make the playoffs. The Habs are able to extend his season by getting him on the Dogs on a ATO. They don't have to sign him to his entry level deal until the summer of 2014, so this is some bonus hockey for him and the Habs brass get a closer look against tougher competition. Just amazing how this organisation is now active and on the job...

We may have a steal on Toskarski. In 10 games since the trade: 5-4-0 1.54 GAA 0.951 SV% 3 shutouts 40 saves last night for the shutout against his old team, the top team in the AHL. The Dogs signed a couple of kids to ATOs, and ex-QMJHL forward Alex Delisle scored the only goal in his AHL debut. Brady Vail also played and made his pro hockey debut last night. They also signed a big defender out of college, so they are giving some kids a looksie now that their college hockey seasons are over. He will play later this week. The knock on Tokarski is he is smaller than the prototypical big goalies these days. He still seems to win everywhere he goes though.

Dogs lost to the Heat 4-3. Not much to say, other than they did manage to look interested for the last 5 minutes or so. Tinordi was back in the fold and had a hand in 3 goals.........actually more like a foot and a stick - he managed to put 3 in his own net via deflections. I'm not sure what the Habs' brass told him when they sent him back but I wouldn't be surprised they told him to get more physical. His play last night sure looked like he was on a mission to imitate PK Subban, trying to take out guys with big open ice hits. I was hoping to see Tokarski. The last time I saw him I wasn't impressed but obviously he's been solid since. Unfortunately Mayer got the start and it cost the Dogs muchly. All in all not an impressive night down on the farm. Hopefully the kids will be all right eventually, but right now they aren't.

Brady Vail's first pro goal. He is #54 in white and gets the deflection in front. Good work and some decent wheels by Steve Quailer #13 on the goal. www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsrVHoJf7Nc

Looks like Archambault and Hudon have gotten the call to Hamilton.

Interestingly enough, so has Sebastian Colberg according to Hockeysverige.se. Seeing lots of chatter on this. Shocking (in a good way) if they pull this off. A whole different approach to player support and development under the Berg and friends. Still 10 games left in the schedule, so lots of hockey to give the kids a teaser of pro hockey life.

Interestingly enough, so has Sebastian Colberg according to Hockeysverige.se. I don't think we ever did this before? Especially with a European prospect still under contract for next season.

Looks like Archambault and Hudon have gotten the call to Hamilton. Archambault made his debut earlier this week, and the Habs have officially confirmed that Hudon has signed an ATO and will be joining the Dogs. Hopefully he is in the lineup tomorrow night in San Antonio. With Kristo there now, they likely have the most entertaining batch of forwards since the beginning of the season when they had Gallagher, Palushaj, Geoffrion, Dumont, Leblanc and others. The Berg confirmed that they are talking to both Collberg and Nygren (the 22 year old impressive defender) to try and get them over for a peek this season too. That window is closing though as it is a much longer commute from Sweden to North America and there are not too many Dogs games left. Collberg is under contract with his SEL club for next season, so it likely would just be a try-out deal similar to the other teenagers. Nygren could be his actual entry level deal if the Habs were so inclined as they have to sign him by June 1, 2013 anyway. I expect they will try to get his two year entry level deal starting next season and get him a PTO for the remainder of the AHL season if they can get him here in time.

Nygren is a very interesting, under the radar, prospect. A bigger Diaz?

Interestingly enough, so has Sebastian Colberg according to Hockeysverige.se. I don't think we ever did this before? We've done the junior to the AHL then back to juniors before. Turner Stevenson came in 1991 and played 4 playoff games for the Fredericton Canadiens and went back to Seattle in the fall for his final junior year. We just never did the european tryout before and haven't done the junior one in a while.

Kristo's first game with Hamilton and he picks up an assist. Beaulieu had a goal and assist, 6 shots on net and first star of the game. Dogs picked up all 3 stars despite playing in San Antonio in a reasonably close game. 4-2 win. theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1010894

The Dogs were up against the top team in the AHL tonight, in game two of a three in three stint in Texas. Charles Hudon had the magic touch getting his first pro goal with 25 seconds left after Holland had tied it earlier in the third. Tokarski with the win. Fun times with the newly inserted kids playing. Here is Hudon's goal. He is wearing #53 in red. www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_DNFncPgCg

that was a heck of a goal, NWT. I loved how Holland went to the front of the net and then Hudon's patience on the wrap around was very good, followed by a hell of a shot.

I didn't see the game but 5 shots for Hudon last night suggest that he was very involved. Also a +2 for Tinordi on top of playing a pretty physical game: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaLp15OIMPA&feature=player_embeddedIn the video it looks like Tinordi is wearing an A. I wasn't aware of that fact, but its good news to hear he's being fastracked into a leadership role. And another point for Beaulieu. Things are looking not too bad on the farm.

I've heard it reported that's what Tinordi has been doing since his stint in Montreal....playing with a meaner streak.
It will serve us well....he has to use that size and strength a la Robinson. He won't be as good offensively, but if he can be that deterrent, clear-the-crease guy...it'll be well-received.
We just may see him in the playoffs. Nothing like a little home-grown, developed-properly toughness from an everyday player.

Dogs lose 2-0 in Houston today. Third game in 3 days, so the legs had to be spaghetti-ish. Four points out of 6. Pretty good for a road trip to a tough area.

Looks like Nygren is headed to the farm for the rest of the season at least. He's got a contract for next season, but if he plays well you can imagine MB might try to keep him over in North America.

Looks like Nygren is headed to the farm for the rest of the season at least. He's got a contract for next season, but if he plays well you can imagine MB might try to keep him over in North America. His SEL team has stopped things, so he is in limbo right now. He was tweeting that he was packed ready to go, and then he got held up by his team. We shall see what happens. Collberg has been in Montreal getting checked out by medical staff. Edit on Nygren: Looks like a combo of communications and administrative challenges got in the way. His SEL club was okay with him going as long as the insurance was in place. Then the reality of a lot of work by the Habs/Dogs to get him here for only a handful of games kicked in. He obviously was quite excited to have a chance to come over so was upset when the deal started to fall apart. I am guessing negotiations for next season will probably still be ongoing.

Derek Willis was on 690Radio third period of last night's game. Said Hudon been most impressive of those new additions to Hamilton. Kristo only been so-so. DT been great pickup...sees him as future starter in NHL. Beaulieu has been Bulldog who improved most this year. LeBlanc is playing a lot better as of late. He suffered high ankle sprain in third game of season, took long time heal then had confidence issues. Finally getting his game in place. Tinordi should add 10-15 lbs muscle to really improve his game. Probably more he said but I forget. Said Houston going to lose their AHL franchise. Canucks taking over Abbottsford, not working out with Flames.

Hudon could end up like Gallagher....a 5th round steal. Wonder if he will may team next year if good camp? He's now our only prospect who has not yet reached his 19th birthday, so he is still very young. Next year will be big for his development, in that he can go back and dominate in the Q and secure a place on the national junior team (too bad about that darn injury in the pre-tournament period). I don't think there is any rush with him at all. Like Gallagher in juniors (his skating was not great when we drafted him), he could also benefit from improving his foot speed which will make the transition to pro hockey easier, and also help him somewhat avoid serious injury as he has been injured a fair bit already.
