Anyone hear anything about this? Can't find a thing. btw Rimmer: appreciate the day-to-day. I've been hunting around too, to no avail. Perhaps the info was bogus, though as I recall the source seemed to be on the up-and-up. Stay tuned, I guess. Time will tell.

in an article Finnish Elite League prospect preview on Hockey's future website, the author mentions two of our prospects, Joni Puurula and Oskari Korpikari. it looks like they are in good position to develop further since Puurula (Hameenlinna HPK) is deisgnated as the starting goalie for his team and Korpikari (Karpat) could see some ice time on the 2nd defensive pairing. Grabovski with another goal against Korneev's team. Grabovski 7-2-1-3 4 pims Korneev 7-0-2-2 0 Grabovskiy was one of 3 stars in that game as he scored the game-winning goal for his team. the game ended 2-1 for Neftekhimik. Ilya Kovalchuk had his debut for Ak Bars in that game (1a) and was also one of the 3 stars of the game. i also noticed that in this game the Ak Bars' (1st?) defensive pairing of Korneev-Denisov (a Sabers' prospect) had been dismantled and Korneev had been paired with Ignatov on what appears to be the 3rd defensive pairing. R. p.s. you can see Grabovskiy's goal on this page www.ak-bars.ru/video/ by clicking on the 1-2 link under the 17.09.2004. section

over the weekend, the Swiss championship started. Mark Streit's club, ZSC Lions, played 2 games, winning both 4-2. Streit had no pionts in either game, but was +2 with 2 shots on goal in the first one and had 6 shots (leading his team) with 4 PIM and 0 in the +/- column.

Oskari Korpikari's team played 3 games so far in the finnish SM-liga, winning two and losing one, but his name doesn't appear on the scoresheet. he's also -1 so far.
i looked at some of the preseason games they played and noticed that Korpikari played on the 3rd defensive pairing so I'm guessing that's still the case. his defensive partner was Ilkka Mikkola, a former Habs' prospect (1997 draft).
some other intersting faces on that club include Viktor Ujcik, selected by the Canadiens in 2001., and Eero somervuori, a Tamba Bay prospect who had spent last season playing for Hamilton.
unfortunately, it looks like Puurula won't be the starting goalie for his team. Miika Wiikman started in all three games for HPK, winning all three with 2 SO and stopping 17, 34 and 38 shots respectively.

I do know that Mikkola is injured and out for 6 weeks. I really like what I've seen from Korpikari, although I don't see too much offensive ability in him, same with Archer and O'Byrne. Puurula is or was considered the starter going into the season, according to some Finnish writers at HF. Last year he lost his starting job to a former NHL goalie (forget who) but he had to retire due to a heart problem, and Puurula took over as the starter and did well. Miika Wiikman is supposed to be a very good young upcoming goalie, so he could end up beating out Puurula this year.

Funny that they were paired together. Now if only Korpikari and Mikkola were on the same pairing, that would be freaky.
