I'll go out on a small limb and say Desharnais was apart of this deal. (and if so, no wonder the Flyers declined) MB said that the Flyers' price was high but that he was willing to pay it. In short, this isn't just MB making a pitch, there was a preliminary deal in place before the draft, but when it was Philly's turn to pick, the guy they were hoping to pick was the guy we were willing to trade up for. In short, no reason to make this another Desharnais-bashing thread... I don't understand the DD bashing either. He scored 10 goals, not bad in a shortened season. Not Ryders 16, tops on the team but very respectable. He was on the top line with Gallagher and Pacioretty and they had great chemistry. They surely were not the top line at the start of the season but proved themselves. Keep those three together and they will produce. He is not big. So what. He is young and improving, not on the downside of his career like an ageing Briere. We have a lot of smurfs and winning fights is not the key to the cup. There are others who need to play that role. DD and Gallagher can fall down and force the opponents into killing penalties. I predict great things from thast young #1 line.

I would have jumped at it in his place. He wasn't the only one to slump before the playoffs, the whole team went to sleep including our goaltending tandem. DD's line has great chemistry and deserves to start the year as #1, ahead of Briere who may belong in a old mans league. We got rid of Gomez and got Briere?? Old, small and on the downside.

DD will be fine (at least I hope so). He doesn't strike me as the kind of player to rest on his laurels; he went through too much adversity (not drafted, ECHL, AHL etc.) to fold without a fight. As for Brière, I always hated his weasel face and fist pumping but he is part of the Habs now so I will say that his character will drive him to perform well in MTL. Gomez was more of a happy-go-lucky type of guy and at the end was simply collecting his check going through the motion.

The part that concerns me, Serge, is that he was everything you say above, until he signed that contract. After that, the drive and intensity was not there like it was before. I thought it might be coming back late in the season, but it fizzled again in the playoffs. I think he's worth $3.5MM, if he can put up 55-60 points a year and improve his face-offs, even if he is a liability in our end. The question now is, "can he do that?"

A really interesting interview today on TSN radio with London Knights GM Mark Hunter on Big Mike McCarron. Well worth a listen when you have a mo. www2.tsn.ca/window/podcastcentre/#id=19When the page opens, just look for the Mark Hunter interview on the right hand side. If it starts up with the Clash London Calling, you have the right interview! In other news about our recent draft picks, it sounds like Mr. Salo and Leksands won't be releasing Jacob de la Rose to Windsor this season. He is still under contract with them for one more season and they just earned promotion from the second league to the SEL this season. This will help him continue to play against men, but he won't get a lot of good ice time to work on his offensive game as he will be playing 3rd or 4th line. He would have had a better chance getting loads of ice time in Windsor. He will be playing in a number of four nation internationals for the U20 team though and should be a fixture on the WJC team when Sweden hosts it this year. When his contract with Leksands is up, he should be in Windsor the following season.

The war of words between Salo at Leksands and Rychel in Windsor is over, and Jacob DLR is staying put in the SHL next season playing against men in their top division. Not a bad option at all as long as he gets decent ice time. I know that was part of the allure of Windsor, in that he would have received lots of important shifts on the PP, PK and even strength. The downside was playing against juniors compared to men back home. Anyway, the young man has weighed in back home and taken the high road. So no new feathers should be ruffled. ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/jrhockey-buzzing-the-net/windsor-pick-la-rose-isn-t-dissapointed-staying-183713208.html

Practice hard, skate, shoot, conditioning, weights, diet, study, stay clean, observe, learn, attitude..... Two different roads to the same destination. Take the high road, be responsible and don't assign blame to others.
