Habs prospect on TV alert.
This Friday night on the CHL on Sportsnet this week has Moncton against Halifax. A chance to see Zachary Fucale, assuming he is the starter that night (pretty good odds).
The game starts at 7:00 pm Eastern on all Sportsnet channels except for West.

Someone to watch in that game will be Ehlers. He can flat out fly. Might be the fastest player I've ever seen on Metro Centre ice.

Martin Reway had his fingers all over Gatineau's improbable comeback win last night. Down 3-0 in the third, Reway ended up with 2+2 for 4 points in a 4-3 OT road win. ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/jrhockey-buzzing-the-net/montreal-canadiens-prospect-martin-reway-waves-wand-turns-054925808.htmlOur three European prospects are playing in a four team U-20 tourney right now, and all are finding the scoresheet. After being held scoreless in his first game, Sebastian Collberg had 3 assists in Sweden's second game. Jacob DeLaRose has picked up an assist in each of the two games and Artturi Lehkonen has scored a goal in each of Finland's two games.

For a while, many of our top prospects seemed to have hit a wall, at least scoring wise. McCarron finally got an assist recently, but he has only 6 points in 16 games, so not really setting the world on fire. As always, with bigger, rawer guys, you have to have more patience. It takes them longer. Delarose and Collberg also had not been scoring. Hard to judge in the SEL because coaches often don't play their younger guys much, or in favourable situations. Still, it's nice to see them on the scoreboard now and then, and that wasn't happening. At least, against their peers, they're putting up points. Fucale had hit a bit of a rough patch as well.
The fortunes of war.

Reway just had another four point game earlier today. One goal and three helpers. Finland and Sweden battled today in that U20 tourney and both Collberg and Lehkonen had assists. McCarron and the Knights will be on Sportsnet Friday Night Hockey next week.

McCarron is currently 219th in scoring in the OHL with 1 goal and 6 assists. No, I'm not bailing on him before he plays a single NHL game in anger, but I do think speed, talent and desire trump size. We've had lots of big guys picked high and never justified their status. There must be a reason why McCarron was still on the board when we finally got to pick. I like big guys provided they have skill. We can always pickup a big body goon in free agency without using a first round pick. Reway may or may not make it. We have a revolving door of GM's and Coaches but have kept the same head scout and blamed bad picks on GM's overrulling him. Just saying....

Teams need a balance. There's room in the game for small players but you can't fill your roster on them.

McCarron was on a point a game pace before his shoulder injury, and has totally fallen off since his return. It will be interesting to see if he can get some more offense going soon. He does have decent skill and hockey sense for a big kid. We shall see, but a bad stretch during a kid's 18 year old season does not a bust make.

That would be grossly unfair. I am stating that it is unusual to find a player who enters the hall of fame without having great success in junior, minors and eventually NHL. I like McCarron, big, strong, skates and hits. We can get that cheaply in a Parros in free agency. Some of my favorites have been Gallagher and Hudler, smurfs that filled the net as juniors. I also liked Locke and Desharnais who peaked and then struggled. THere are no guarantees, but success breeds success. I looked back at the Hab's high draft picks of BIG men and here is what I came up with. David Fischer Guilaume Latendresse Kyle Chipchura Mike Komisarek Eric Chouinard Terry Ryan David Wilkie Brent Bilodeau Turner Stevenson Lindsay Vallis Doug Wickenheiser. We have used high #1 or #2 picks on big men and it has not turned out well. Speed, skill, courage and desire have been more effective for us.

We have used high #1 or #2 picks on big men and it has not turned out well. Speed, skill, courage and desire have been more effective for us. All the names below Komisarek don't really belong here. They were all chosen by a different team of scouts and management. Is there anyone left in those departments from that far back. Komisarek gave us exactly what we drafted him for. A defensive D for the first pairing. The fact that he left as a UFA and busted in Toronto is irrelevant (and looks good on TO). Fischer, Lats and Chip, well first off, Lats is a second rounder and you are getting far from the cream of the crop in his draft year there. The further you get from the #1 selection, the bigger the long shot. So I don't complain too much for second rounders. I hope most of them round out our roster and fill up the farm, and from time to time we get something good, but you can't expect a Subban very often out of 2nd. But one thing you are omitting here is the successful picks. Patches is a big guy. Price, McDonagh, Galchenyuk. These guys all have size and were taken in the first round. We still have high hopes for Beaulieu and Tinordi. We are far from the team that drafted the Bilodeaus, Vallis, Stevenson, Wilkie, Brown, Ryan and Ward. From time to time though, we'll get a Fischer rather and a Pacioretty but so does every team.

I agree that some of our big picks worked out and some of our small guys didn't. I like Sven Andringhetto, Martin Reway, Brian Gallagher and yes, David Desharnais. They have the potential and SKILL to be very good. Fischer, Lats and Chip, well first off, Lats is a second rounder and you are getting far from the cream of the crop in his draft year there. I admit to having liked Corey Locke who never lived up to his talent. Big and good is better than small and good. We picked up most of these smaqller guys in late rounds. The reason they were available is because they are small. I would have loved to give up our two top picks last year to move up to Detroits spot and take a big and good scoring machine. It didn't happen. McCarron and DeLaRose don't add up to Anthony Mantha.

Charles Hudon with a hand in all three goals last night, in that super-series against Russia (or whatever it is called now). Two goals and an assist. If only they would give him some talented guys to play with! Last night he was saddled with a couple of scrubs names Drouin and Mantha...

Game two of the Subway Super Series between the Russians and the Q is about to start. Check out the Sportsnet schedule.
Fucale, Hudon and Gregoire could all possibly play tonight.
Edit: Fucale gets the night off. Not surprising, they are giving each Q goalie a game.
