Too bad about McCarron, but probably not unexpected. McCarron has always been a project, and I don't think anybody in management would tell you otherwise. Secretly I would bet that they don't think he will start being an impact player until he is 24 or 25, if ever, though I doubt that they will ever admit that. They swung for the fences on this one, and while everybody always says that is what they should do nobody is willing to wait to see where the ball actually lands. I love sports analogies. It's too bad, in a way, that McCarron was drafted in the first round. As a second round pick the expectations would have been much lower and he would be given the time to develop. But I guess they figured he wasn't going to make it to their pick in the second round (probably accurately). Life would be so much easier for him if the picks went De la Rose, McCarron instead of the other way around. Still, we should be happy we have them both in the organization instead of getting upset over which order they went in.

Had a friend who was a Bruins scout and he told me that McCarron, in his estimation, was a second-rounder, tops ... still, at the time, I thought McCarron was a pretty solid pick ... Dale Hunter also seems to think he'll turn out ... have to wait and see, I suppose ...
Cheers.

That's kind of my point though... that year we got McCarron in the first, and De la Rose, Fucale and Lehkonen in the second. People thought Fucale was a sure-fire first round pick, De la Rose a borderline first round/second round pick, and McCarron a second round pick. Going into the draft if I had of said "we are going to draft Fucale, De la Rose and McCarron" I think most people would be quite happy, or at least figure we got good value out of it *. So why is drafting McCarron, De la Rose and Fucale any different? * I think some would argue the value of drafting a goalie in the first round, but that is neither here nor there. I'm talking about drafting a guy who was ranked in the first round, in the first round, as good value.

Too early to close the book but so far risk is winning. Not on the top of our list of prospects, not on the top of the US junior team, not on the top of the London Knights, bottom of the OHL in scoring. We made a good try. I was really hoping for us to move up ahead of the Red Wings and select a big forward who DOES score and has ability to go along with size. Detroit as usual picked a good one. He may one day be a useful replacement for Parros on the fifth line and I hope I'm wrong.

An article about Martin Reway, his return to Europe and playing for the Slovakian junior and mens teams. www.habseyesontheprize.com/2014/8/18/6031069/martin-reway-interview-canadiens-prospect-talks-to-tomas-kmecThe kid does not lack in confidence, but likely still has some physical and mental maturing to do. He did end up in Benoit Groulx's bad books a few times last season. Playing in the top Czech mens' league is probably just fine for his continued development as long as he gets decent ice time. He would have received top notch ice time in Gatineau. I see no reason at this point why he would not get offered an entry level deal as long as he keeps developing, definitely not just because he will be playing in Europe.

He shows really good hand eye coordination as well as focus on his second goal. On the first goal, he got his shot off really quickly. I like it when guys don't settle the puck and just let it fly. He's showing some serious skill. Awfully light, though.
