Was at the AHL All-Star skills competition tonight .... Magnus Nygren won the hardest shot with a 104.6 mph shot (an AHL All-Star record, previous record was 102.8mph) and he tied for the lead in the accuracy competition (4/6). MB should work on getting him away from Farejstad

MB should work on getting him away from Farejstad If he cleans house enough, it is possible, though it could leave a lot of inexperience on the blue line. Beaulieu, Tinordi, Nygren and Pateryn were the closest to making the team this year, but I think Nygren didn't care for the travel or buses of the AHL, or maybe he was just homesick. I think he has enough talent to make the jump. What could next year's defense look like? PK, Emelin, Gorges, Beaulieu, Nygren and Tinordi. Lots of inexperience, but perhaps a true upgrade on talent. Or at least potential. Lots of guys on the fringe, too, such as Dietz, Morgan Ellis, Pateryn, Dalton Thrower. Or they could be trade bait to improve other areas. If only everything would fall into place.

MB should work on getting him away from Farejstad Bergevin DID get him away from Sweden. Nygren started the year in Hamilton, played 16 games (8 points) and then decided Hamilton was much too dangerous a place for anybody to be living in and bolted back to Sweden. Unless he's guaranteed a spot in Montreal, or unless Montreal moves their farm team (Laval?) I don't see him coming back at all. Too bad, he looked like a real solid prospect, especially considering he's a righty.

Am liking his development. He's moving to open ice and I loved the one timer. Some of our regular line-up could take a page from that book. On his second goal, he established position and used the soft hands for the deflection. I also liked that he insinuated himself right after the goal to help a teammate when one of the opposition took exception.

Liking the way things are going for both of the big kids. Promising. Losing Nygren hurts. I'm hoping they can find a way to get him back over. He's got a lot of ability.

Michael McCarron has five goals and four assists in last ten games. Since the move to centre. But he is still aways away. Not a fluent player. Needs more maturity also. About best thing is Dale Hunter teaching him thou. In a earlier game he lost a crucial faceoff and did not play in third period. Then, more recently he got a penalty, complained all the way to the box and was given an unsportsmanlike. He never got back out in third period. I still say 40-50 point, physical third line player.

McCarron had a good game today also. Best game yet this year to me anyway. A goal, an assist was +5 against a good Oshawa team. Just as important he was used in key situations. Late in the game, McCarron was used for important defensive zone faceoffs. McCarron lost the faceoff, but this time took his man eventually winning a puck battle along the boards. McCarron picked up a star for the second straight game. The move to the center seems to have paid dividends, now 5g 6a in last 11 games and +9 in a third-line role. Some encouraging signs... things have changed...20 games ago he'd have been stapled to the bench the last five minutes.

Thanks Gnick. That's awesome. Playing at Centre you say? Wonder if he's big enough to fit our "BIG CENTRE required" advertisement?
No one's really thought of putting him at centre, except Hunter. As Arte Johnson would say, Verrrrry Interesting.

No one's really thought of putting him at centre, except Hunter. I'm wondering whether playing centre has made him feel more responsible for making things happen, more inclined to use his tools.

Hunter did it for a reason...why I have no idea. If it works out...he could be that big of right handed center every team wants

Another goal and a fight for Big Mike McCarron last night.
Here's the fight. Lengthy, but nothing overly special about it. McCarron seems to be working the left jab a lot, which if nothing else keeps people away from you. Hard to believe those two KIDS are over 6'6 tall each. What the heck did their parents feed them??

Gonna have to make room for him sooner rather than later, or use him in a trade. His skill is high end. Higher than Gallagher's imo. As for being 6'6 at 18 or 19, I was pretty much 6'3 when I left high school. What I wasn't was 240lbs plus lol. There were a bunch of kids my height back then, but no one, I repeat NO ONE that tall was that heavy. We were all bean poles lol. IIRC, I tipped the scales at 190 - quite normal. Like to be back to that number lol.

Thanks NWT. At last some good news about our prospects. Hopefully he can replace Parros who fights like Ronda Rousey has him in an armbar and skates like he's attempting a quadruple Lutz on speed skates with the guards still on.

Don't have the link, but Bozon was admitted to hospital with meningitis. Not sure if it's viral or bacterial. Not sure how early they caught it, but apparently he scored a goal on Feb 28, and was admitted within 36 hours of doing that. Dangerous stuff meningitis. Hope he recovers.
