Before the hoopla, he was leading the league in scoring. Saw his ice time posted on another site, and it looks like it dropped his last game. Oh well, he produces when he is on the ice.
He also was benched in Gatineau, when he played in the Q. He was young (heck he still is).
Perceptions about his attitude keep following this young man around. Hopefully the Habs are keeping much better tabs and know what the real story is.

EOTP has a write-up today on Reway's situation. It provides more information, but doesn't dispel the notion that Reway has issues with authority. (That bodes well for a Therrien/Reway confrontation). Maybe it's maturity, maybe it's simply circumstances (poor background with a desire to fend for his family), but some mentoring would help this kid a lot, I think. www.habseyesontheprize.com/2015/10/27/9614872/martin-reway-and-the-situation-as-we-know-it-update-habs-rumours-sparta-praha-khl-prospectPS The former coach quoted in the article, Vladimir Vujtek, was a 1991 draft choice of the Habs and went to Edmonton in the Shayne Corson / Vinny Damphousse trade. He never really panned out as an NHL player.

Just when Habs fans thought they would have one prospect in each of the QMJHL-OHL-WHL legs of the Canada-Russia Super Series, it looks like Daniel Audette will miss the next month or so with a separated shoulder that he suffered coincidently in a game against fellow prospect Simon Bourque.

I taped the game and am just watching it. Juulsen scored in the first period. Brayden Point (Tampa pick) came out of the right corner to the blueline, taking a defender with him. Juulsen jumped up from the point, took a back pass from Point and the forward watching Juulsen got caught napping. Juulsen cut in toward the net around another defender and backhanded a shot off the far post, about 8 inches off the ice. Really nice goal. Both he and Point displayed some good hockey IQ on the play.
Juulsen really looks like a younger Jeff Petry. Same long effortless stride, same patience with the puck, same good simple passes. At the point he rarely winds up, mostly wristing shots at the net or at forwards for a deflection. I think Timmins and the boys nailed another one. Yet one more right handed Dman. Sheesh.
Second period just starting and WHL has a penalty. Juulsen out on the first PK pairing. Makes a good play while being pressured in the corner and ices the puck. Does it sound like I like this guy?

That was a real beauty of a goal.
I think the really good thing about Juulsen is you can see his hockey IQ out there. He has the hockey smarts, and the nice skill set to back it up.
Team WHL is back on the ice (and on tv) again tonight, but it is another late BC start for those out east. I think tonight's game is a 7:30 PT start.

Hopefully Russians will be better tonight. Jet lag etc from a 30 hour trip must have been brutal.

Hayden Hawkey and his Providence team are on TSN2 tonight as part of TSN's NCAA hockey coverage (it started last night with Notre Dame and Jake Evans who had two assists - did not know that it was on unfortunately). Not sure if Hayden gets the nod as the starter tonight. Rather hope he does as I have not seen him play yet, one of the few remaining prospects in that category! The game starts at 6:00 ET on TSN2. www.tsn.ca/ncaa-hockey-broadcast-schedule-1.391473For reminders, the Habs actually have very few NCAA prospects compared to previous years. Here they are and their teams: University of Notre Dame - Jake Evans Providence College - Hayden Hawkey University of Alaska Fairbanks Nikolas Koberstein Miami University (Ohio) - Colin Sullivan

And Guy Boucher will get a look at him too! Win, win.
Edit: oops, just read that Boucher's been let go by Bern, so I guess he won't see Reway. Boucher had been offered a 2 year extension last year and just recently, but turned it down because there was no 'out' clause, in case he was offered an NHL job. That's his goal.

Here's a link to Habs Eye on the Prize and a write-up on Mike McCarron and Jake Evans, along with some video of recent play. McCarron's shift on Carr's game tying goal is the type of play I can easily see him making at the NHL level. Like the announcer says, "He's a machine". The second clip on his shorthanded goal shows that while he doesn't look fast, he gets around that defenceman and uses a wicked shot to score from a bad angle. The third clip, I don't think he scores on an NHL goalie with that shot (well, maybe Bernier or Varlamov). Jake Evans is definitely a guy under the radar, but don't forget his name. www.habseyesontheprize.com/prospects/2015/11/18/9749788/prospect-highlights-michael-mccarron-rookie-scoring-leader-jake-evans-notre-dame-value-centre

Vejdemo with his third goal of the season, and third point in the last three games with a snipe the other night. He is #44 in dark jerseys and he scores his team's third goal. Lucky 3's!! www.shl.se/shl-arena/39768/

Lehkonen vs Nygren today in the SHL. Lehkonen got the last laugh with the OT winner to go along with his earlier assist. Here is the goal: gfycat.com/WhimsicalWanDotterel

EOTP has a nice story on Lekhonnen. Sorry can't work the link on my phone. Two more points. Timmins believes he's a sleeper prospect.

EOTP has a nice story on Lekhonnen. Sorry can't work the link on my phone. Two more points. Timmins believes he's a sleeper prospect. I would really like to see both Lehkonen and Reway over in North America to see what the Habs really have in these two prospects. I would expect the Finn may be an easier sell. Both have to be signed by June 1, 2017 or the Habs lose their rights.

Lukas Vejdemo has been named to Sweden's preliminary WJC roster. This is good news, as Lukas was struggling offensively to start the season in the SHL, but his offensive game has picked up quite nicely of late. No doubt, the folks responsible for the player selection took this into account. Sweden has two extra forwards on this preliminary roster, so here is hoping that he is not one of those last couple of cuts. www.habseyesontheprize.com/2015/12/7/9860710/lukas-vejdemo-sweden-world-juniors-preliminary-roster-habs-canadiens-prospectIt will be a bit of a sparse WJC for Habs prospect watchers, as a maximum of two prospects (Juulsen and Vejdemo) are still in the running for spots. Let's at least hope both those two young men get the call.

A piece on the Habs web site about 2014 7th rounder Jake Evans. He is an interesting story as he went from Junior A hockey in Ontario to the NCAA (University of Notre Dame) as a true 18 year old freshman last season. That is a big adjustment, as most kids play a season or two in the USHL first. Saw a few games of his on tv last season, the kid has some skills. TSN does have a few Notre Dame games on tv in the new year as part of their NCAA hockey coverage. canadiens.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=789898

He got off to a hot start this year but has cooled off offensively lately. Last year, 7-10-17 in 41 games. So far this year, 2-12-14 in 16 games. The improvement is obvious, even if goal scoring itself is not great. Worth keeping an eye on this guy.

I know much ado was made about Reway, his demotion in the Czech Extraliga, and his eventual move to the Swiss League. The good news is that he has picked up offensively where he left off, contributing on the scoresheet with nice regularity. In his first 7 games in Switzerland, he has managed to get at least a point in all his games, and has 12 points (4g 8a) during that impressive stretch. He had two three-point nights in that nice run. Cue the segueway, here are the highlights from his first three point night and his first two Swiss League goals (they were nice snipes!): www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtwrLqbKiIo

Its a short sample size (7 games), but he has the highest points per game figure in the league at 1.7. Interesting that he's seemingly scoring at will in a tougher league. In one game where his team was down by a goal with the goalie pulled, Reway knocked down a shot at his empty net from just in front and sent a great transition pass to his teammate who scored to tie the game.
It's a good lesson that there's a lot to take into consideration when judging our Euro prospects. Coaches have a ton of power and exercise it. Good players don't necessarily get the most ice time or be put into advantageous situations. (Ok, that's not always confined to Europe, but you get the idea). It looks like Reway's leash has been taken off. He's a legitimate prospect, probably 1-2 with Lehkonnen of the Euro guys.

Thanks NWT. A quick progression for the kid, and some plaudits are due to our Swedish scout(s) (Rockstrom?) and to Timmins for supporting the pick. Third round. Pretty good.

Yeah, TT credits Christer Rockstrom for getting him to come over to Sweden to see Vejdemo in their junior playoffs. Still a long way to go to figure out what kind of pro player the Habs may have with this young man, but you always like to see positive development going on with your prospects. Ice time is often hard to come by for teenagers in the SHL, so good to see his ice time increasing as the season progresses.

His ice time probably speaks well for his defensive awareness. SHL coaches tend to be really focused on that aspect (unlike coaches everywhere else )

Final was 5-1. Pasquale saved 45 of 46 shots and wasn't first star. That honour went to (drum roll), Michael McCarron with the hattie, his 11th, 12th and 13th goals of the year. None was into an empty net, unlike some of Patrick Kane's points on his streak. Love beating any New Jersey affiliated team. I just wish they'd go back to calling themselves the River Rats, one of the true, all time, great nicknames. theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1015067
