I'm sure he's gutted, but he won't be 19 until April and this really is a tournament for 19 year old kids.

I'm surprised. He played well in the Russia-Canada challenge series or whatever it was for the WHL, and he had been paired with Fleury, which I thought would be one of the top pairings. The rest of the defence better play well or they'll be in for a good chuck of criticism.

I know there were some reports that he did not look as agile and quick as some of the others vying for a spot, so that may have had something to do with it. I watched the Sunday game against the Czech Republic and he was paired with Fleury again and played on the top PK pairing, but nothing on the PP and not as much 5 on 5 as some of the other guys auditioning. In the end, Hockey Canada went with the older guys although not sure McKeown was any better than Juulsen.
The hardest part is that he was one of the last few cuts and the team was already in Europe. He gets a long, lonely flight home today instead of staying in Finland for the tourney.
One player left to watch...Vejdemo. Takes a little fun out of the tourney, but I still think it is some of the best hockey all season.

I've watched him in a few tournaments and playoff games on tv and he hasn't impressed me at all. He doesn't create. When I've seen Juulsen play, though, I have liked his game.

Lehkonen signed a one year extension with Frolunda. This contract will expire at the end of the 2016-17 season, which is the summer by which the Habs have to sign him. The timing works out well and he is doing well in Sweden, finding his offensive game this year. He scored his 12th goal today and is tied for 9th in SHL scoring. One more year away from Lefebvre won't hurt him!!

Amen. I really like how he and Reway are finding their offensive games, without sacrificing any defence. If they came here. we'd turn them into defensively safe, bottom 3 players.

Here is the crux...would he be "responsible" enough for MT? <rhetorical> Hopefully that will be a moot point. Amen.

Artturi Lehkonen continues to develop. Two assists in a recent game, including the one below (if it works). Lehkonnen is 17th in SHL scoring, 5th in scoring on his team, Frolunda, and 1st in even strength scoring on Frolunda. He averages 15:41 of ice time. His 26 even strength points are 3rd overall in the SHL and 1st among players under 24 years of age. You'd think he'd get more ice time, but that's what happens when your coach is Olaf Therrienson. Nope. Video didn't take. Here's the link: Lehkonnen is the player in the middle who makes the initial play and then stops in front of the net, like a good player should. He gets the 2nd assist, but it's all him. streamable.com/4p2y

Prospect on TV tonight.
Our sixth rounder from last draft, defenseman Simon Bourque, and Rimoouski are on Sportsnet 360 tonight at 7:00 pm ET. Simon was named captain this year as an 18 year old. He plays a decent two way game in juniors, with an already career high 40 points in 55 games.

He has had by all accounts a successful rookie season in the SHL. Hope he keeps on a positive development curve because he is an intruiging prospect. The international man of mystery from last year's draft.

Lehkonen had an assist in a losing cause in game two of their series. Earlier today, he had a goal and an assist as Frolunda went up 2-1 in the series. Vejdemo went scoreless.

Lekhonen with the GWG and an assist yesterday as Frolunda is now up 3-1 in their playoff series. That is now 7 points in four playoff games for the young Finn.
In CHL action, all but one Hab prospect will get some playoff action. Matt Bradley and Medicine Hat lost the one game tie breaker to Edmonton last night, so they are out. I don't expect any of their teams to go too far, but you never know as upsets do happen. At least the kids get some playoff action, unlike their pro counterparts in the AHL and NHL!!

Easier to change that mentality by replacing the grinder coach than trying to change 20 players' styles. I vote yes to changing the grinder coach.

He actually does not shy away from the dirty areas, even though he is a bit under sized. Here is hoping he can join the club and contribute to its new post-grind era!!

Frolunda win 5-1 today to take their series 4-1. Lehkonen with the GWG. 8 points in the five game series. Vejdemo on the losing side, so his season is over.

Two of our NCAA prospects will be participating in the NCAA hockey tournament that starts today with 16 teams as they work towards the Frozen Four.
Jake Evans, the impressive 19 year old sophomore, leads Notre Dame against Michigan. Hayden Hawkey gets to sit backup as Providence does battle as well.
