... George Chuvalo vs Muhammad Ali, Maple Leaf Gardens, 1966 ... after the fight Ali said of Chuvalo, "He's the toughest guy I ever fought" ... Ali's cornerman, Angelo Dundee, said, "He never stopped coming on ... you've got to admire a man like that" (Wiki) ... Chuvalo was the number one contender for the British Empire heavyweight title for many years but champion Henry Cooper would not fight him (sic) ... Chuvalo's claim to fame remains that he was never knocked down in any of his 93 professional fights (I'm sure someone will look this up, but it's out there) ...

Every place I've looked, the Chuvalo claim seems to stick. You'd think there'd be a scorecard somewhere listing a knockdown, if it occurred.
I'd ride it and the two distance fights against Ali all the way to the bank. Incredible achievement.

I'm sure most know this fact…but that iconic Henderson picture was taken by Frank Lennon of the Toronto Star. Standing next to him was Denis Brodeur, Martin's father….who took a similar shot within a split-second. Lennon's is on the left. Brodeur's on the right.

Then, as now, Private Heath Matthews was described as the subject of the iconic photographic, however not without some controversy. Another signaller in Charles Company, Private Herbert George “Herb” Norris of Kingston, Ontario was later to claim that he was in fact the wounded soldier in the picture. He had been carrying a roll of signals wire during the patrol, had been wounded, and apparently had killed two enemy soldiers with his American M-1 carbine during the action. When Norris passed away at Kingston on 29 December 2011 he was still adamant that he was in fact the Canadian soldier in “The Face of War”(thercr.ca)

In his rookie year with the Maple Leafs, (Howie) Meeker appeared in 55 games, scoring 27 goals and 45 points, which was good enough to earn him the Calder Trophy as the league's top rookie, beating out other big names including Detroit's Gordie Howe. He also tied the NHL record of most goals scored in one game by a rookie when he scored five against the Chicago Black Hawks on January 8, 1947. (sic)

When Marlon Brando won the Best Actor Oscar for (The Godfather), he sent Sacheen Littlefeather (née Marie Louise Cruz) to represent him at the awards ceremonies. The presenters of the award were Roger Moore and Liv Ullmann. When Moore offered the statuette to Littlefeather, she snubbed him and proceeded with her speech about the film industry's mistreatment of American Indians. (Wiki)
