Having moved both 2nds this year for Shaw, there's not much chance of picking up another first - say if there was interest in Gauthier ...

That's it for the first. Lots of moving around. Record # of US developed players selected at 12 in first.

I agree with you 100%. Normally players who drop is like catching a sharp knife. Worse, we have a lot of mediocre players but are missing high first round picks. This draft drops sharply after the first three and again after 8. Gauthier is what we NEED, big, good skater and sniper. He's not a Mathews, Laine or Puljujarvi, not close but that's the way it is this year. Skating is most important, scoring goals with a nose for the net is important too. We need a big wide body along the boards and in the slot. If I thought there was a great player at nine I would say go for it but the POSSIBLE upside for Goat is as hi as anyone who is left. Grown up near Montreal is a bonus although I'm not an advocate of selection by race. I think we have an equal need to address the left side of the defense. Sergachev's stock appears to have risen slightly. It may mean that he's no longer available when montreal comes up to pick at #9. He was slotted at #9. IMO, if he is there, he's got a higher ceiling and a better chance of reaching it. My concern with Gauthier is that he's another Stevenson, or worse a Vallis. Cccv Prophetic. You called it! Good call.

Was having some fun speculating who the team would pick with 39 and 45, and help restock the pool a bit. That changed right after the first overall pick last night lol.
Here are some musings on some players who may be available with the rest of our picks today's:
3rd Round 70th Cliff Pu, C, London (OHL), 6'1", 185 - often lost in the depth that London has up front, Pu is a good skating power forward with skill and rugged determination. You watch London for the stars, but you also notice Pu. Markus Nurmi, RW, TPS U20 (Fin), 6'3", 175 - good skating two way forward with good hockey sense. Maxine Fortier, RW, Halifax (QMJHL), 5'10", 175 - offensive winger with great speed and good shot.
4th Round 100th Simon Stransky, LW, Prince Albert (WHL), 5'11", 170 - quick, agile, shifty skater with good offensive IQ. Yegor Korshkov, RW, Loko Yaroslavl (KHL), 6'4", 185 - big, rangy power winger, who is strong along the boards and also suited up for Russia at the world juniors. Otto Sompi, C, Halifax (QMJHL), 6'1", 180 - good skater with smart hockey IQ. A solid two way centre.
4th Round 124th Graham McPhee, LW, USNDTP (USHL), 6'0", 175 - solid two way with good wheels, hockey sense and compete level. Matthew Boucher, LW, Quebec (QMJHL), 5'9", 175 - hard working two way winger who battles hard and is sturdy on his skates despite his height. Frantisek Hrdinka, D, Frolunda J20 (Swe), 6'0", 185 - smooth skating defender with good first pass, who plays calm and makes good decisions.
6th Round 160th Colby Sissons, D, Swift Current (WHL), 6'2", 175 - strong two way defender who is a good passer with an accurate shot. Gabriel Bilodeau, D, Gatineau (QMJHL), 6'1", 185 - strong skating defenseman with a good first pass, good shot and good decision making. Samuel Solensky, LW, Liberec U20 (Cze), 5'9", 165 - creative offensive winger who is strong on the puck and a good playmaker.

Fortier would be a solid pick. He didn't have much support as he was the best player on the Mooseheads. Meier was traded early on as was Moynihan. Somppi got better as the year went on, and I would expect those two to carry a big part of the load next year. Somppi

Surprised Fortier was not picked. Wonder if we invite him to the development camp.

I'd ask for number .9 or .4. Who said it has to be an integer?
