When the BPA is Milan Lucic ... I'm not as big a fan of Okposo as the That's Hockey Panel is, but I'd agree he's the least likely to be showing his age at the end of his deal. The Backes deal is odd. With Krejci and Bergeron there already, he slots in where exactly? They've committed a lot of money and term if he's their 3rd (In saying that I know Plekanec could be our 3rd). Maybe they roll 3 lines evenly. Seven years for Ladd might be the worst deal of the day. We'll see.

Just as soon as I saw the money and terms being handed out, I was hoping Bergevin would've stayed clear.... a few retirement-type signings today.... Rick

Rick I think Tampa might have made out better than anyone. They managed to sign two huge pieces to contracts that are big discounts over what either would have got on open market. They got Vasilevsky signed to 3 years. Expect Bishop to be moved this summer.

There were plenty of club unfriendly deals as the top tier was signed.
What were the Islanders thinking? You dump a guy three years younger than Ladd and hand out the same term for only $500K per season less. And Tavaras supposedly likes Okposo a lot. Garth Snow is scary bad GM.
I also think Boston made a bad deal. St. Louis is a sensibly run organisation and even not out of loyalty to long time Blue like Backes would they go there. Backes has concussion history and playing hard physical style takes a big toll.

Tavares lost both his linemates, as Nielsen was playing on his left side at the end of the season.

I totally forgot about Nielsen.
Hopefully the Islanders fall down in the standings. Our division is tougher now that Florida seems consolidating as a talented and well coached team. So it would help if the Metro division does not occupy more than four playoff spots.

Panthers sign Trochek to extension. Six years, $4.75 million aav.
Leafs sign Polak to one year deal.
PAP signs one year deal with Isles for $1.25 million. He'll still get $1.33 million in buyout money from us. :/

Guess they are making room for younger players.

Yup, unlike Polak. I guess at this stage of the rebuild, re-signing Polak makes sense if you can move him for more picks at the deadline. Other than that, he's not a lot of help on the ice. Will the other GM's wise up and not overpay?
