If Koivu's a UFA, Burke won't do it. If he's an RFA, you might as well throw in Zednik, Komisarek and Kostitsyn, because either way, we're giving up way too much. Do we have any player who can step in right now for the Ducks? The deal would be our 5th and that player, but he'd have to be in the Bulis range. Not a front line player, but a decent, younger addition to any team. I wouldn't give up any of our prospects such as Higgins, Perezhogin, Kostitsyn, etc. Hainsey? Still, there isn't a lot of difference between 5th and 2nd other than position. Are you sure Kopitar isn't a better prospect than Johnson? Lots of ifs and I don't think there's sufficient upside for Gainey to gamble. Koivu too much to give up for the second over all pick? Get a load of this: - The Blues have qualified defenceman Chris Pronger at $7.8 million (all terms US), but that doesn't mean they're going to keep him. The word is they'd like to deal Pronger to the Ducks in exchange for the No. 2 pick in the draft, but if that's the case, Anaheim would have to renegotiate Pronger's contract. There's also talk Atlanta has made a pitch for Pronger and is considered a front-runner to land the former Norris Trophy winner.
- There's a big-time rumour out of Colorado that Avalanche GM Pierre Lacroix is trying to woo the Ducks by dangling forwards Milan Hejduk and Alex Tanguay for the pick and prospect Stanislav Chistov. There's also talk the Avs might try to get centre Sergei Fedorov into the deal since there's a good chance they're going to lose centre Peter Forsberg to free agency.- www.ottawasun.com/Sports/Hockey/2005/07/29/1151757-sun.html

Hey, so long as Kopitar doesn't have to go through the hell of major reconstructive surgeries on both knees before the age of 24, that description sits easy with me. The positive difference in the profiles is that Kopitar si recognized as having just sick offensive skills and upside. 6'2 203lbs, and a growing teenager. Do you think he'll last until #5, though? If he's as good as everyone's been hyping about, he could be gone by 4th pick. There's a lot of hype surrounding Kopitar. His name is being bantered about here and elsewhere. Cheers.

According to CKAC, the Habs are really shooting for Pouliot...
Marc Lachapelle explains that Johnson should go second and that Carolina could suprised by taking Marc Staal. However, Pouliot might very well be selected by the Wild (4th). If that happens, the Habs could trade down 3-4 spots if an interesting offer comes along...

Go figure... JF Chabot writes that Gainey will be targeting Ds tomorrow- Jphnson- Bourdon, Staal, Parent... However, Gainey is more interested by moving up than by moving down... So will try something for Jonhson? Ignore Chabot, he's worthless and knows nothing. He frequently writes total trash and doesn't know the NHL from his dirty laundry. Just look at the article - Gainey says he's looking for an NHL-caliber defenseman and forward, and the idiot Chabot (moderators: We're allowed to spew insults at ignorant people who are passning themselves off as reporters, right?) takes this to mean that we're drafting a defenseman. RDS speculated about Aucoin, which I figure is typical reporters trying to out-guess the GM, but Chabot is terrible. I think any of 10 posters here could write better articles than him.

(moderators: We're allowed to spew insults at ignorant people who are passning themselves off as reporters, right?) You shall not be drawn, hung and quartered, though in the interests of the Code of Conduct it may have been better to deride his behaviours rather than the person himself. For example, you might have said that "Though Mr Chabot is undoubtedly a fine person and never forgets his mothers birthday or his wedding anniversary (I made large assumptions here, that he is married for example), but better drivel has never passed the pens of others. I have found his reporting to be poorly researched, inconsistent, often flawed and booorrrriiing." That sort of comment would ensure you are not demeaning the person themselves, yet get across your point that we should take the article with a grain or two of salt.

Johnson, Kopitar and Pouliot still available (I'm sticking with size). Loved that term 'warrior' that Timmins applied to Johnson.

Ok, Johnson's gone. I suspect BC's scenario of trading down is becoming more likely.

I'd been hoping for Pouliot, but now it's pretty much all the same to me...
Habs select....
Gainey full of class as always, a bilingual address....

I do think that Theo's days as Gaineys favorite are numbered. I'm not suggesting that Price is ready to replace him as #1 at 18, but I do remember Jr. B goaltenders moving up to the beg team. How much are other teams willing to offer for a former MVP and current top 15 goaltender who thinks he's still #1.
