Awesome thread as usual, but that's our 1998 draft (though the list of players for the 2002 Citadelles seems right).

This will be a tough game... it always is out west... boys have to bring their A game or they'll get pumped. It'll be interesting to see how Shea plays... hope he keeps the crease clear.

Awesome thread as usual, but that's our 1998 draft (though the list of players for the 2002 Citadelles seems right). Thanks PTH ... I use the same templates for making game threads and I didn't change the date on this draft ... it is the '98 draft for sure ... the 2002 is correct according to hockeydb.com ... I've got the GDTs done for the month of December which gives me time to review them before they got up ... I'm trying to do a "draft theme," an "in-the-system" theme and a "they-played-for-the-Habs" theme which will focus on the lesser-known players who wore the colours ... I'll try to stagger those lesser-known players through the threads ... thanks again ... Cheers.

Saw Mathieu Descoteaux's only NHL goal ... can't remember if that was the same game I saw Brian Savage score too ... anyway, Descoteaux sneaked in from the blue line and got his goal in close ... that was the 2000-2001 season ... Cheers.

Redmond on the ice in Anaheim today practicing with his mates. He did a quick two game conditioning stint with the IceCaps over the weekend to get in some game action. No word on which two of Barberio, Pateryn and Redmond will play in this game.

My guess, since Redmond is a rightie and MT likes his balanced portfolio, that Barberio will pair up with Redmond.

I don't have a crystal ball, WD, but I suspect Greg Pateryn's days might be numbered ... his coach has little-to-no confidence in him and I can see Pateryn being a 'throw-in' to any potential multi-player deal ... just a gut feeling ... hope I'm wrong ... Cheers.

Package him with DD and/or Pleks and some draft choices and let's upgrade at centre or D. But until the trade happens he is in my view in our top 6 d. So let him play as well as showcase the guy.

Who can we really get if we package Pats with DD or Pleky?? Why would anyone want either of DD/Pleks considering how little they produce offensively compared to what their cap hit/salary is? The optics for those 2 are just bad imo and I can't see a team wanting either of them.

The pitch to the weaker team who has cap space is we can give you some players to help your team now but the real ticket is a top draft choice. Yes, I'm talking first round! First round for us is useless at this point. The Price/Weber window is the next 2 years. No draft choice we will pick, likely in the bottom 15 of the first round, will help us in the next 2 years.

The way things are going pleks/dd/pats are not helping us as much as they should be.. be it ability or utilisation... how are they going to help another team? and if the other team gives us an asset that helps us now then the first round pick is close to the end of the round so how much of a help will it be to them? Now I'm not saying MB shouldn't try to move Pleks and DD but I think we need to temper our expectations on the return.

I think Pateryn is a decent 3rd pair guy, bring some physicality and steadiness when he keeps everything simple. His problem is decision making at NHL speed, which is catch-22 since he needs to play more to see if he improves in this regard but he tends to be punished for every mistake which makes him more likely to play tight. As you guys say, it would not surprise me to see him traded.
Is there a market for Desharnais or Plekanec? Without enticement of best asset going other way in trade, Bergevin will have no taker for these guys.
If Plekanec was in final year of contract, I do not doubt a contender with a hole down the middle would take him since his career reflects versatility as above average three zone player who can kill penalties and work with power play unit.

A contender with a hole in the middle is exactly what we'd be if we traded away Pleky... Yup. Who would match up against the other guys' top centres? Not Chucky or DD. Danault is still pretty unproven at centre and that would be throwing him in the deep end. Mitchell is a great fourth line guy, not sure if he has the chops to take on that extra burden night in and night out. McCarron is clearly not ready yet, as he has hardly lit the AHL on fire since being sent down. Plekanec is overpaid for a checking forward who is not producing offensively, but he still brings enough to the table on the defensive side that his departure would leave a gap. Now, $6 million could get the Berg into a pretty good replacement market if some other GM wanted to dance.

Sorry, I do not mean to say I want to trade Plekanec. I think his value to Habs exceeds value of Desharnais and it is not even close. But I say this to respond to question of whether or not Plekanec has legitimate value in market.
There have been trade proposals to push Montreal to Cup contender status involving Duchene, etc. For to make these kinds of trades possible, salary would have to move other way so either Plekanec or Desharnais would have to move along with top d-man prospect, top forward-prospect and #1 pick.

Now that's how you start a game, shots 7-0 Montreal, 3 and a half minutes in.
