Don't look now, the restocked Dogs won twice this weekend. A 2-1 shootout win last night and a 7-1 blow out tonight. Urquhart gets the call up from the ECHL and gets an assist in his second AHL game. This guy is another enigma (like we haven't seen enough of them lately). Hope he works out, but not betting the farm or even any decade old farm instruments on him. Lapierre shows his stuff with a couple of points and an incredible +4, Danis get the "W", Kosty gets a point, and newly signed Lemieux (the other other one) gets a few points.
I guess that Hamilton Spec writer will get all the credit for the turnaround, by ragging on the team. I actually think it just takes a while to get the youngest AHL team on track, and Coach Lever seems really critical in the media and likely a tough dude for these young guys to work for. Time to suck it up, as it does not get any easier, lads.

Dogs snap a two game losing skid with a big 5-3 win against Cleveland on the road last night. Jonathan Ferland, not long back from a long injury, had a three point night with a goal and two helpers and the first star of the game. Kosty had a shorthanded goal and second star. Francis Lemieux keeps rewarding management for his new Habs' three year contract with two goals, Lapierre had two helpers, and Danis knotted the win. They are in Rochester tonight and need the points to start that slow trek out of the basement. Baby steps!! www.hamiltonbulldogs.com/index.php?module=newser&func=display&nid=127

Dogs drop their second straight where they outplay the opposition only to end up on the short end of the scoreboard. Ferland and Kostitsyn scored for the Dogs, to give them a 2-1 lead going into the third. Syracuse then managed 2 goals on only 3 shots on net and one empty net goal to seal up the 4-2 come from behind win. Danis gets tagged with the loss. www.hamiltonbulldogs.com/index.php?module=newser&func=display&nid=130

Ugly loss 7-2 against Grand Rapids last night but there was some positives
- Yann Danis wasn't in goal - Cote had an assist and his +/- was 0 - Francis Lemieux had a goal - Kostitsyn han and assist and a +/- of 0
I'm really scraping for good news here. Help me out.

Locke, Dagenais and Perezhoegin should tear up the league and put some numbers up for the Dogs. Really stretching for some good news.

I'm watching the Bulldogs vs. the Moose on Sportsnet
Danis just went in to replace Deslauriers who looked shaky. Yann is staying square and challenging the shooters.
Defense - overall horrible. Getting outmuscled and lots of 2 on 1 breaks. Aitken slow and ineffective. Doesn't use his body Sanford should be used on PP only. Reminds me of Bouillon except he has more offensive upside and is less strong. Benoit looks like an AHL version of Streit
Forwards - aways seem to be reaching for the puck with one hand on their sticks. Dagenais looks completely lost and is the slowest forward on the ice. Used mostly in PP situations but not doing much except taking time away from a legitimate prospect. Lemieux is smart and very fast but small Perezhogin has been playing a regular shift and killing penalties. You can see he has more talent than most of the others. Played RW with Locke and Winchester. Lapierre is okay and plays like Chipchura but without as much offensive. Probably never more than a 4th line center but that is an important position, too. Milroy sound positional play but nothing special Lambert killed penalties and played a regular shift but didn't do anything noticeable. Locke didn't stand out Vandermeer didn't notice him
Edmonton prospects Mathieu Roy makes some bad decisions on defense but did block a shot nicely. Danny Syvret almost invisible. Marc-Antoine Pouliot probably the best center on the team Jacques is big and seems to know what to do in front of the net. Winchester is big and scored but looked slow to me (but still faster than Dagenais)
Overall, they reminded of the Habs lately. Not much defense, not much offense

Cote plus 1. He'll soon replace Locke (2-1-3; plus 3) as the guy I want to see stay with the boys. (But I'm still hoping they'll give Corey a shot).

I believe the points Dagenais scored last night were his first since the demotion.

A shootout win today, with AK getting 2 points and 2nd star. Of note is the fact that my favourite goalie prospect, Jaroslav Halak, stopped 38 of 40 shots and somehow didn't get a star from the Binghampton homers. We're on a roll. Woohoo. ahl.leaguestat.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1001805

Sacrilege! To suggest the playoffs are unreachable. The obese lady has not yet even parted her lips, much less broken into song. Take that, El Franko. We broke the hearts of our nemesis, Buffalo's farm team. Kost scores a tying goal, then assists on the winning goal with only a minute left. Heck, it looks like Dagenais even produced. Zounds, will miracles never cease!? ahl.leaguestat.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1001820

Listened to a lot of the game. Dogs deserved the win and if not for hot goaltending it would have been over early. It sounded like San Antonio just sat back the whole game trying not to lose...must have been fun for the fans. Anyway, five in a row and slowly making up some ground against divisional opponents. Good on the young guns.

Looks like the Dogs are currently sitting in a playoff position; tied for 8th.

Looks like the Dogs are currently sitting in a playoff position; tied for 8th. I see them 6th in their division and 10th in the conference. But what is the playoff format anyway? I thought it was top 4 division which is why I thought that they were too far back to make a realisitic push. Conference? Possible -- especially if they keep winning like they have been. Giving a great example to the big boys.

Still a long way to go, but they are at least going in the right direction with this nice winning streak. Lots of road games ahead, so no easy task at all.

Still a long way to go, but they are at least going in the right direction with this nice winning streak. Lots of road games ahead, so no easy task at all. The good news is that the play the Marlies 3 more times. 9 pts is not going to be easy. Last year they pulled it off, were down 12 pts I believe, then won a huge game against rochester or the roadrunners perhaps that they ended up being only 10 pts back instead of 14. From there they went on a roll and squeaked into the playoffs, where they got their asses handed to them. Don't know if they can pull it off but at least they are winning games and learning what it takes to win in a playoff like atmosphere. I'm guessing that if Prince Albert continues to suck, they can send Chipchura to Hamilton in 2-3 weeks, PA's season might end on the 18th if they can't catch the Wheat kings. Tomorrows game should be a big time test for Halak who I assume will get the nod after his shutout. Houston is a good team and they have the top 2 scorers in the league and 3 of the top 6. Michaud's let in 9 in the last 2 games, so me things Halak will see more starts but it's sometimes hard to understand what Lever does. Then it's a back to back with the barons. At least the Dogs are making it very interesting.

Blip in the road: Aeros 3 Dogs 2Excerpts:Erik Westrum scored two goals and added an assist extending Houston's winning streak to seven games with a 3-2 victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Pierre Daganais and Francis Lemieux scored the goals in the losing effort for Hamilton.
The loss ended a five game winning streak for the Bulldogs. Hamilton (27-33-0-3, 57 pts.) remain nine points behind the Toronto Marlies for the fourth and final playoff spot in the North division.
