Yeah I heard about his photo-op. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but why pose for a gay magazine if you're not gay (unless he is)? And the fact that he's involved in professional sports doesn't help at all.... Market penetration. Why do gay people agree to be interviewed in straight magazines? Myself, I'll be reading it for the interview when they make it available online. A young Gui who's media friendly and secure in his sexuality. What's not to like?

it's a non issue. to me it shows that he's open minded and not a small town boy who's a homophobe. good for him, anyone who questions him about it needs to look themself in the mirror. i'm suprised this board is actually making it an issue, but i've noticed that when this team is winning everyone is too excited and when they're losing we're firing the gm, coach, and our #1 prospect can't do anything right.

I know I'm just worried about how the other players on other team may treat him, there are some real assholes out there that would love to use this to their advantage. Whether he's gay is not an issue here I believe, we've had Gay players playing for the Habs before...Richer!!

I’m not too worried about him appearing in a gay magazine. I am more worried that our 18 year old 2nd round pick, who has yet to play a game in the NHL, is doing photo shoots, writes a column for RDS, and is being treated as the second coming of the Rocket.

Hopefully the kid has his head screwed on tight AND Gainey will make sure that he plays with seasoned veterans (see Crosby) not with some AHL goofball a la Dagenais or fresh rookie. ...as an aside, Latendresse (and his HABS sweater) is now being used by car dealers, gay magazines and who knows what else... (joe patate, Bob Chopper, Silencieux chez Ti-Pere...). That's yet another downside of leaving your superstar forward to be groomed by a lesser organization.

It's all about exposure (and money). Guillaume Latendresse talks about himself!A banal interview granted by the young hockey player Guillaume Latendresse has sparked reactions. In the latest issue of the gay review La voix du village, the Drummondville Voltigeurs' forward poses, torso naked, with his hockey pants detached. He also reveals that he does not have a girlfriend and jokingly gives notice to single gay men—that has been enough to feed many discussions among hockey fans. According to Pat Brisson, the young player's agent, his client was trapped by Nadia Fezzani, the journalist who conducted the interview. Mr. Brisson specifies that his protegé is heterosexual and that he did not know for whom the article was written. Mrs. Fezzani for her part maintains having shown a sample copy of the magazine to Guillaume Latendresse and to have explained to him before the interview at which audience it was directed. - lcn.canoe.com/lcn/sports/nouvelles/archives/2005/12/20051212-094939.html (French)

If you think about it, this is less bizarre than Sidney Crosby posing shirtless in GQ magazine, which is ostensibly a straight men's magazine. Sounds like backtracking from Brisson, Gui was likely cooler with the idea than his agent was.
This isn't your Dad's NHL anymore.. I have to believe that tolerance, and beyond that acceptance, is significantly different now than 20 or even 10 years ago. Sure, there will be people who have a negative opinion of a straight man giving an interview and photo op to a gay magazine.. my question is.. who cares?

Gainey oh Gainey, where was thy brian? Next to his Scott? or Allen? (sorry could not resist) This demotion had EVERYTHING to do with the CBA and free agency with the 7/25 rule.....and NOTHING more. May I posit another theory? The possibility of having Gui contend for Rookie of the year? Versus Crosby, Phaneuf, Svatos and Ovechkin, Latendresse might not have had much of a chance even with a 20 goal season...next season Malkin might STILL be playing in Russia making the Calder trophy a great deal more accessible to Gui.... It's a thought.... Whats that old saying about great mind's thinking alike and fools seldom differing .... Looking at it from another angle. If we play him this year we could actually save cap money. This year's group is one of the best rookie crops ever. Latendresse would be a huge underdog to win the rookie of the year going up against the likes of Ovechkin, Carter, Crosby etc. So he plays and performs admirably (for arguments sake) gets 40+ points. Isn't in the nominations for Rookie of the Year. If we play him next year, well who will his competition be? Malkin (if he plays)? He might as a result of this camp, and possibly a good junior year be a favorite to win the rookie of the year next year. If he actually won it, it could cost us when his rookie contract is up. I havent seen the CBA but does anyone know the performance limits that rookies have to attain to get bonuses? Is Rookie of the Year one if them?

It could be worse. He could have agreed to be interviewed by "Pedaphiles anonomous" or worse, "Bloc Quebecois!" Now if Sheldon Souray appears in next months issue of that magazine, I'll start wondering.

I didn't know he actually posed half nude! Could it be he was "Late-to-dress"? *sic*
~~~~~~~
His agent is already trying to do some damage control. Too late. I wish that Gainey didn't let the kid go back to juniors. He could be the power forward we dreamed off or he could be lured to ashes. He is only 18 and the world of fame and fortune is a twisted place.
A new marketing opportunity could open up for the Habs: "Come to the Bell Centre and have a gay old time." Or maybe not. Never a dull moment being a Habs fan.
Let's see what he does at the Juniors. He may make it impossible for Gainey to keep him in the minors.
It's not unusual for the fans to be pointing fingers and looking for someone to hang when the team is doing poorly. If you think that this board is angry and bitching, you should see the Bruins board. They are getting downright nasty. Anywho..... When we get out of this slump and hopefully SOON, things will be back to normal, okay, whatever normal means around here.
I wonder if he posed for the cameras after the game? ;D
...as a follow up there was an article in Le Journal de Montreal where it was said that Latendresse was not told at any point that it was a gay magazine and if he would have known, he would not have gone forward with the interview and photo shoot, as it is not in line with his own principle.
On another note i was one of about 200 people at that game, that stupid article didn't even cross my mind. The fact that this board is making an issue out of it makes me wonder... And yes latendresse is the real deal and will be one of the top forwards for canada. Does he ever create a lot of room, when he has the puck he demands a lot of attention with his strength. The player he reminds me a lot of is todd bertuzzi, without the child-like maturity.
I would imagine that he would have to be one of the top rookies next year. BTW I think most of us are just having some fun with this article.
Question: What is the secret to soft hands?
Latendresse, "Limp wrists"
Bonk, "I have no idea"
Ribeiro, "Weak arms"
Koivu, "Jergins lotion"
Dagenais, "Weak ankles"
Souray, "Baywatch babes"
