Remember when Burke was with the NHL and responsible for supplementary discipline? This came up on youtube today. It's gold. His candor is refreshing. Perfect response. And Domi, saying he was going to 'stay in shape' for the 8 games he'd miss. *eyeroll* I know it's hardly current, but we've often discuss lack of discipline in the out of town threads, and it wasn't always the way it has been since Colin Campbell went to the league offices. Bob McKenzie wrote a book (which is not bad) which unfortunately was coloured quite badly at least IMO, by the first chapter in which he describes a near death accident involving Colin Campbell on Campbell's farm. The chapter is sympathetic to Campbell and I think that was McKenzie's crucial mistake. Portraying a loser like Colin Campbell to be a decent guy. Not at all. The man is a poor excuse for a human being and whatever his life experiences were (I"m referring to those that formed him as he grew up, not the farm accident), they molded him into a man with extremely poor judgment and skewed values. Or perhaps it's just genetic as so many things are in life.

He always comes off like an assistant coach scrambling and trying to be an executive. It's like giving the keys to a billion dollar company to the guy in the mail room. Maybe he's working his way up the ladder, or maybe he's reached his peak. IMO, Campbell reached his peak behind the bench.

Well, at least it looks like Chicago and the Rangers are separating from the teams at the very bottom. Edmonton is playing better lately so hopefully they keep it up. Detroit is beginning to worry me. They look lively and generally play pretty good hockey but they are just not picking up any points. Vancouver and Ottawa are basically hopeless.

OTT defied logic last night and won. I agree with you, folatre, I just don’t think they can do that nearly enough.
VAN just needs to score a goal. Any goal. Back to back shutouts, including a 1-0 bomb against ARI. They need their young guys healthy. Weirdly ARI is only 7 points behind us. However, I don’t see us dropping below any of those four teams worse than us right now.
DET is the only team with a current losing streak longer than ours. The problem is we got some points along the way. We play them twice more.

EDM lost on a SO to San Jose, so they move one point ahead and they also played Montoya. He now has played seven games for the Oil, with six games over the 30 minute mark. That means the Habs are close to meeting the conditions of that trade and having that pick move up from a fifth rounder to an early fourth rounder. The Big Cubano should play again on the weekend, and make it official, as the Oil have B2B games this weekend, and also one more time after that.
Vancouver were shut out again. Yikes.
Boy, would it be nice to see DET go on a bit of a tear soon. They are one point behind with a game in hand.

ARI has been quietly winning games lately (thanks Edmonton and Vancouver!!!) and now sit one point up on Buffalo. The Dahlin lottery ball sweepstakes get interesting. I wonder what the Yotes three or four season ticket holders feel about that. If we don’t get Dahlin, I sure don’t want to see him end up within our division.

I agree. If Montreal does not win the lottery, I hope Dahlin goes to Vancouver (I cannot wish Arizona on that kid).

A DET overtime or shootout win over LA would be lovely.

Watched some of both the Ottawa and Detroit games tonight. Dare I say that DET may be the more hopeless of the two right now. That is not saying much.
DET definitely did a stealth tank the last month.

Edmonton is playing some good hockey now. They have even started to figure out their historically bad penalty kill.
I watched half of the Buffalo-Chicago game with Eichel back in the lineup. Reinhart moved over to right wing but he keeps putting up points, particularly on the power play.

For certain, the Sabres are not going to give a productive young player away. I do not know if he is miffed by potentially having no future at centre in Buffalo.
However, Buffalo has a lot holes on their roster (situation in net is not good at all, they have no quality left wings, the defense still needs help) and Botteril may only be going into year two but Buffalo fans feel like they are in year seven or eight of a rebuild and he may feel some pressure from ownership to deliver something soon.

I would have loved the Habs to put something together to get Rattie, but obviously the price was too high . It is an area, though (RHD) where we have a surplus. Ooops, mistaking Ty Rattie for Tyson Barrie. Wrong Tyson. At least I didn't mistake him for a vacuum cleaner.

Rattie took advantage of opportunity. He had just been called up, and he got into the lineup because Pontus Aberg missed practice the day before, and was scratched yesterday in favour of Rattie. Ty then potted his first goal as an Oiler and added an assist. Playing on the same line as a certain McDavid kid does have its perks.
Oilers play Tampa today. If Montoya makes it past the 30 minute mark, our fifth round Oiler picks turns into a fourth rounder. We take small victories where we can get them these days!

The tank watch went “oh fer” today as both DET and EDM lost their game in hand.
Montoya played the whole game and had a solid outing against Tampa (second star and 37 saves), so that means we officially get the Oilers’ fourth instead of their fifth in exchange for him.
Eight picks in the top four rounds now.

Just need the Kings to make the playoffs to get that 5th switched to a 4th.

Just a quick question. What do you think the price would be to draft Dahlin assuming we have a top five pick but not the first overall? Would it be our first plus our 2 highest 2nd rounders?

The gap is considered enough between Dahlin and the others that it likely takes our first this year, next, and more.

DET wins a rare one, and move one point up on us. EDM and NYI also both win, and create a tad more space.
OTT got smoked, or we could have jumped two spots tonight. VAN is losing, but that should not surprise too many.

VAN is losing, but that should not surprise too many. Third last is the best we can hope for. With Eichel back, Buffalo might put on a spurt, and maybe Ottawa. Sixth or 5th last is most likely, barring movement in the lottery.

If we can lottery ball into the top three, we are golden. The best D and two best forwards are in that group. I would be thrilled with either Svechnikov or Zadina as a result of this gong show season. I want goals!!
There is a batch of players from about 4 to 9 right now that would give us some really nice options if we fall into that category too. Not at the level of the top three, but still pretty good adds. Some other guys are really moving up too based on their play in Europe, playoffs etc.

Shame for the Mooseheads because they're bidding hard for the Mem Cup. Sompii, Zadina, Fortier are big parts of the offense. Groulx (another potential pick this year [likely a second]), Lavoie and Durandeau with MacIsaac on D will have to drive the offense. Groulx and Lavoie might be interesting to nab with a couple of our second round picks.

Bad results all around, other than CHI winning to keep enough space.
Cannot count on others!
LA winning tonight over the Oil would get them closer to the playoffs and us to that fourth instead of fifth.
