The fact that Tavares gets to play for his favourite team as a child, living close to his family and friends was a big factor to why he signed to play there and you can't fault him for that.

I don't fault him for that. But after requesting to stay at deadline time, I'm sure many people took that as a sign that he wanted to stay in NY. The Isles have been left high & dry, losing a great asset for nothing.

Yes... he screwed them... that was a Saperlipopette thing to do... they got nothing for him... teams would have given up plenty for him at the deadline

Oil, sabres and Isles have scrapped bottom for years...and how are they doing on touching the promised land? Crappy management. Every one of those teams has and had poor GM's. Lowe, Chiarelli. Snow. Murray, Regier. It starts and ends with that. Step 1) Fire Bergevin and bring in an organized, smart guy to run the hockey operations Step 2) Let them do their job Step 3) See steady improvement and much hope.

Yes... he screwed them... that was a Saperlipopette thing to do... they got nothing for him... teams would have given up plenty for him at the deadline He had every right to do what he did. Isles could have traded him any time. They banked on making the playoffs and showing him they had a SC contending team (#1 on the wish list of every UFA). They didn't. They brought in an old GM hoping to sway him, but I read somewhere that he wasn't that crazy over some of the moves made by Lou. Sorry, no provenance, just my faulty memory and no sources, so I could be totally wrong. I suspect the thought of never being able to grow a playoff beard swayed him away from the Islanders. Seriously, any reasonable analysis of Lou's performance over the years would lead one to conclude he's not the guy to build a championship team without getting lucky and drafting the next Niedermayer in the 6th round, sometime in the next 3 years. Souray did the same thing with the Habs, though it was clear to some of us that he had no intention of re-signing in Montreal. Even loyal guys like PLeks....you have to trade. You can always sign them again in July for twice what they're worth.

I truly feel sorry for all Habs fans that live west of Gatineau. I can't imagine the hell that you guys are going to have to live through. At least we here in Quebec have the option to switch the channel to RDS or TVA. That's what I did today after it was confirmed that Tavares signed with the Leafs. The Leaf butt kissing was vomit inducing.

If your best player comes to you with a strong request to not be traded you either honor the request or tell the player that you cannot do so. Looks like Snow took Tavares at his word, hung on to him & his team paid a huge price. Tavares had an obligation to be honest about his intentions. By the time that became clear, it was too late for NY.

I've got Netflix. Next is a good indoor HD antenna & a big mute button if I do come across a Leaf game.
