Attitude. They sure are making a big deal about attitude. What do you do when most of your leaders demonstrate a poor attitude. Pacioretty, Drouin, and Price. All 3 gave up at some point in the last season and for long stretches. If that's not an attitude problem, then there was none.
As a bonus, I'll give you a 4th person with a rotten attitude. One that set the tone for the entire team for the entire season. And that's BargainBinBergie himself. From his dealings with Markov and Radulov to replacing them with Streit and Hemsky, to going into the season with $8M of available cap space that he never used, and then using every excuses he could find for himself for his incompetance and pointing the finger directly at anyone else. As the GM, he is Leader #1 of this team, and if he can't shoulder his part of the blame, then that rubs off on the players.
This team seams to be great at finding slogans and excuses. Hockey players and goals, not so much.

Was kind of surprised not to see Lukas Vejdemo's name on the development camp list ...
Cheers.

Talking with NWT yesterday, I saw a pic the Habs shared on social media of Ylonen. He is slight, but if you see it take a look at his thighs. There's some big muscles there. It's no wonder he's such a great skater.

It's hard to make out what his standing long jump measurement was in that video, but it sounds like 114 inches which is a very good jump. He has a wiry frame, that's for sure. A lot of explosive power though.

A little bit about WHL invite Brandon Hagel. He is a 19 year old (turns 20 in August) left winger who just completed his third WHL season (he played previously in the AJHL junior A league). Buffalo drafted him in the 6th round in 2016, but did not sign him this summer. He is a bit thin at 6’0.5” and 174. He is known for his work ethic. He also has put up two straight seasons since being drafted of at least a point per game in the Dub. He scored the second goal in the scrimmage yesterday (Olofsson got the first one). thehockeywriters.com/brandon-hagel-the-next-ones-nhl-draft-prospect-profile/

There'll be more than a few eye-rolls if training camp opens with those t-shirts. Will a new sign go up in the locker room? Ugh. Maybe they'll hire an ATTITUDE ADJUSTOR who can once again re-arrange the locker room seating designations....
Like a inept farmer blaming his crops for not growing. Did you work the land well enough? Did you buy good quality seed? Did you use the correct pesticides/herbicides? Did you cultivate routinely? Did you irrigate when necessary?
Fertilizer? Oh yes...in fact, far too much...which always has a negative effect.

The reality is this camp was a glimpse into some players that could form the future corps of the team in the future. This latest draft brought a nice blend of skill and speed (and a few that have both). Most viewers came to see Poehling and Kotkaniemi, but they also got to see glimpses of some fine hockey from Ylonen, Olofsson, and McShane. They got to see the unknowns of Gorniak, Harris and Houde and see that they can all skate and have nice skills. They saw the mystery Czech defenders, and saw big Moravcik look like a man amongst boys out there and how much Fleury has grown and improved.
There were also a few key pieces missing, or this would have been an even more impressive camp. It was a shame that Romanov was not there, as there is still a lot to figure out on how good a player we have given his high draft selection. Vejdemo was a notable omission, but we will see him at rookie camp with his new contract in place. Verbeek, Evans, Ikonen, Alain, Walford and Brook were missing due to injuries.
I am very excited for the next few WJC tournaments, as there could and should be a solid Habs’ presence. This signals the overall improvement in our prospect pool. And with more picks stockpiling next draft, we should be adding more.
Finland could have Kotkaniemi, Ylonen and Ikonen (if his injury is fully recovered in time).
Sweden could have Olofsson.
USA could have Poehling and Primeau.
Canada could look at Brook this year, and possibly McShane, Hillis or Fonstad as 19 year olds the next year. The latter three were all part of April’s U18 team.
Russia could look at Romanov, but their selection process is a wild card at times.

Rookie camp is less than a week away, running from Sept 6-12. The prospects will take part in a Rookie Tournament with Toronto and Ottawa from the 7th to 9th, getting one game against each team.

Not that many tryouts/invites, but that is okay as we have a decent bunch of CHL prospects and AHL newbies in the lineup. Of course, our European guys are busy with their leagues and the NCAA guys cannot be there due to eligibility rules.
I am interested to see what they do with Joel Teasdale. He is one of many Armada players that seem to get invites these days (the Bouchard connection), but he also played for Team Canada at the U20 summer showcase. That means he is definitely on the radar for the WJC team. I watched him at that tourney given he was an invite to the July development camp as well. He is a late 1999 birthday, so was not drafted this past summer. If the Habs are really interested in him, they have two options. One is wait and try and get him in the 2019 draft or else sign him to an ELC and reassign him to the Armada for his last two years. The contract would "slide" and not count against the 50 contract limit. This is what they did with McNiven for example.
Brandon Hagel is an interesting invite. He was drafted by Buffalo in the 6th round in 2016, but not signed. He is now a free agent. The knock on him has been his strength, as he has always been a slight build. He is 20 now so could be a target for a possible AHL/ECHL deal as he could play in the pros this year. I know I remember seeing him in a few Red Deer games, but definitely don't remember much.
All of the games from the rookie tournament will be broadcast on RDS Info. I will be checking youtube afterwards for those games as I definitely do not get that channel out here.

Sounds like Houde could miss some or all of the rookie camp.
