4-0 Ottawa so far with 17 min left in the game. Shots are 28-9 and not for us. Consistent. Our kids can’t score either. Ottawa is more structured. Our guys seem smaller, slower, but we are missing many of our better prospects. poehling and Ylonen for example.

#71 hit his head on the ice after being stood up at the blue line. Stretcher is out.
The year is starting out well.
Is Bergevin a Jonah?

Everyone is thinking more about Jake Evans and hopes he is okay.
The kids playing in this one obviously looked unfamiliar with each other. That is understandable.
As you said, seventeen, the Senators looked bigger, stronger and faster. In reality, they probably had four guys on the ice tonight that may play 40+ games in the NHL this season. The Montreal prospects are further away.

I like Bouchards quote..."I don't want to take away the players' instinct, I just want them to play... How refreshing. Now they got pumped by the Sens rookies but they'll get better.

Kotka looked nervous, something not unexpected. I'm awaiting all the "We should have drafted Tkachuk" tweets.

We needed a centre... would have taken Zadina before Tkachuk... anyways we traded away the Chuck I wanted to keep

I watched it a number of times and aren't sure, but it could be. It looked like an elbow to the head to start with and then Jake's head hit the ice. I think he was stunned by the first blow, though or he would have lifted his head when he fell. Once again, some Schmuck from Ottawa injures one of our guys with a cheap shot. Some day I'd like to load up with nothing but goons and destroy that team and then go back to our regular programming.

The Sens were a much more experienced lineup, with a number of guys who should be in the NHL this year and a few others who should be knocking on the door at camp. Our lineup was quite younger, but you still hoped for a better result.
Last year it was Brook getting injured in this tournament and missing the start of the season, and now Evans gets clobbered and will likely spend the start of his pro career on the IR. Just hope he is okay and gets better soon.
We shall see how the boys do tomorrow afternoon against the Leaf hopefuls.

2-0 Leafs after five minutes. Two penalties, two goals.

More observations. More than a few of our guys are pumping their legs like crazy, but the Leaf guys are catching them. Just because you move your legs a lot doesn't mean you're fast. One guy was set free on a breakaway and a big Leaf defenseman caught him from behind. Sigh.
Down 2-0 but both were PP goals, starting with a 5 on 3.

Kotka and Waked got a 2 on 1 on a turnover at the Leaf blue line and one can see immediately the challenges. Kotka carried the puck over the blue line and (as Skilly loves) backahanded a pass to Waked on the left. Trouble is that Waked didn't read it at all and was a stride behind the play. Not sure he'd have gotten there anyway, even if he did read it properly. You have one guy playing mentally at a level above many of his team mates who seem to think they have more time than they do. These two particular Hab teams are just not good enough. Filled with tryout guys or many of those guys who Bergevin loves...throw darts at a board and hope some of them hit triple 20. Most hit the board and fall down. Which begs the question....why bother? He's big on quantity, that's for sure.

Brutal hit from behind. Another Hab prospect stretchered off.
Jarret Tyszka.

Another possible injury. Tyszka got boarded and is slow to get up. Make that really slow to get up. Not that I excuse the Leaf forechecker, but he made up a ground on Tyszka as they both went back for the puck.
Seems Ottawa and the Leafs are using guys who are at least AHl'rs and some of them will break into the NHL. Most of the Habs guys are ECHL'rs who may break into the AHL. Brook looks good again today. Some nice moves on the PP. HE needs to speed up his play in the defensive zone to avoid the forecheck pressure, but that will come.
Tyszka is still down and the stretcher is out. Sigh.

Very odd seeing #76 (Brook) and #79 (Melancon) on the Habs.

Hopefully Tyszka will be okay. Maybe his awareness was a little lacking in that type of situation, but that I thought that looked like a rather egregious boarding incident.
I am sure there is some teaching and learning going on during these games this weekend, so it is not that playing the games does not make sense developmentally. However, it is an issue when too many of the kids are green experientially and mismatched physically.

Nice set up by Vejdemo to Melancon who didn't roof it and we remain scoreless after 4.2 periods of play. Shoots it right into the glove which was 6 inches off the ice. Do these guys have no offensive sense at all? Next time, just shoot it, Lukas and forget the pass.

They're younger and less physically able to handle the generally older, stronger opponents. But, hopefully they'll take something away and work on it.

AS the game wears on, habs should have the advantage of not having played yesterday and the legs should be stronger than the Leafs legs.

Josh Brook says he'd like to be an Alex Pietrangelo type of player. Then he puts on 76.

Some of these guys have no offensive instincts at all. #90 (who can keep track of these ridiculous high nummbers?) has the puck pop out in front of the net to him from a corner scrum, so he's all alone, 10 feet in front. He gets the puck, he settles it on his stick, the goalie is allowed to come out 5 feet, cut off any angle the shooter has the the guy doesn't score. Duh. Just let it go, first time. Forget the control, blah, blah. If the goalie's not set, your chances of scoring are 100% better. So what if you don't get off a great shot. He's moving, he's back in the net, there are holes everywhere. Just shoot it, right away. Who teaches these guys?
