Brook was the first star last night in Moose Jaw's 7-0 thrashing of Tri-City. He had a goal (an absolute beauty) and two apples.

Mitch Brown does some incredible prospect watching and has done some very interesting statistical analysis of Josh Brook compared to his peers. Brook not only passes the eye test but also backs it up with some very impressive statistics. The only stat where he is slightly below average is in one-timers per 60 minutes, which is not surprising if you watch him play as he tends to be in motion a lot looking for the good shot or pass rather than being static setting up for a big one-timer. His passing stats compared to his peers are off the charts good.

Some prospect news from last night.
McShane scored, which was his second goal in two nights. He has recently returned from a minor injury.
Hillis with a goal and an assist. He is on TV (Sportsnet) this afternoon against London.
Teasdale with a goal. Good thing too as it was the Armada’s only goal in an 11-1 thrashing. Holy cow.
Primeau with the shutout.
Poehling with an assist as his team won 2-0 last night.
And then there is Brett Stapley. I tuned in on TSN2 last night to catch my first viewing of him to find out that he received a 5 minute major and game for checking from behind just 21 seconds into the game. Game over. I guess my first viewing of him will have to wait!!

Like many, I expected more offence from all three at this point, so hope they can turn it around. PA has been quite the story. Top team in the CHL and Leason is absolutely rocking it this season after being passed over in the draft. Fonstad has been moved down and has been shifted to centre, so both are adjustments. The impressive Raiders come to town at the end of the month so I am quite looking forward to that (and Josh Brook’s visit two nights later!!).
McShane had a beauty shot for his goal last night. Hillis had a 1+1 night, including this great assist. Never quit on the play!!

I'd be careful with Leeson. The analogy is if Nicolas Deslauriers suddenly started scoring at a McDavid pace the season after scoring at a Deslauriers pace for 2 seasons. Yes, it's not unheard of for some players to break out in their final juniour year, but I don't recall any ending well from a prospect standpoint. Any examples you can think of, NWT?

Two prospects had two point nights yesterday, but more importantly they are on a bit of a roll right now.
McShane had a goal and an assist and has now scored in three straight games.
Brook had two assists. That is his third straight multi-point night, his 7th point in his last three games, and he has a modest four game points streak going. He is now second in the WHL for PPG from a defender, trailing only to Ty Smith.

Stapley bounced back nicely from his one shift game on Friday night (5 minute major and game for hitting from behind 21 seconds into the game) with a 1 goal and 1 assist night on Saturday against #1 seeded UMD. He now has 10 points in 10 games (including his one shift game on Friday!).

Has anyone heard an update on Jaret Tyszka who was injured in the prospects game with a concussion? I notice he has yet to play a game this year and does not appear on the Thunderbird roster Looks like he is back in Brossard and skating now.

McShane and Hillis both had 1+1 nights.
Josh Brook had three assists. What a season so far. He is on TV this afternoon. Hope he did not use it all up last night!

In addition to Suzuki’s two goals last night, the following prospects also left a mark.
Teasdale, Ylönen, Gorniak and Brook (on the televised game) all scored a goal.
Harris had two assists and Primeau got the win for Northeastern. Stapley had an assist to keep his point per game thing going.

Off to see this guy (Fonstad) live tonight. First time seeing him in person as opposed to on TV.
For non-WHL/CHL watchers, Prince Albert is on a tear. They are the undisputed #1 junior team in the country with a ridiculous 24-1 record. They have a goal differential of +80 in those 25 games!!!
It is a good week for prospect watching in Etown as Brook is here on Friday night too.

Harris had two assists and Primeau got the win for Northeastern. Stapley had an assist to keep his point per game thing going. Suzuki has dynamic offense but he could stand to get quicker. Poehling's a guy I think will fit in nicely here. Because he has speed and size. There are 2 things Canadiens lack. Also, scored close to Middlestat last year but is a few months younger. Brook is solid, could be a Keith. Needs to add strenght and defense needs to improve. Primeau is a guy I liked last year, the game is going college goalies or Euro. More time of control I think. OUtside of Matt Murray don't think a CHL goalie has made an impact for close to a decade. The days or Fuhr, Roy or Vernon having great NHL seasons at 19 could be done. Suprised he got off to a slow start this saeason thoh.

Suzuki has dynamic offense but he could stand to get quicker. For sure. He seems to be quicker than last year on the videos that I have watched, and that is likely as he matures and gains some strength. Getting that quickness in his jump should still be a priority, because his edge-work and other elements of his skating are quite good. Yeah, I too like his combination is size and speed. I want to see what he can do with legitimate NHL wingers before I agree with his critics who feel he has no offensive upside. In games and highlights I have watched, he has good offensive IQ. He makes smart plays and is a decent playmaker. He is not flashy nor does he have highlight-reel stickhandling moves, but he brings size, smarts and good vision. He could benefit from shooting more and getting a more dangerous arsenal of shots, but that can be developed. I am a fan of Brook and especially how he has taken his game and its consistency to a new level this season. If folks have only watched the WHL-Russia games, they will not have seen it. He tried to do too much in those two games. He has been knocking it out of the park in the WHL games since then. I will be at centre ice watching him in action tonight even. He does need to get stronger, but that should come as his body matures a bit. Northeastern lost the top forward line in the NCAA this season, so the puck is in the defensive end a whole lot more this year. Primeau has had a few games where he has struggled a bit, but he still has really good numbers for only his second season and with a team that is younger and not as strong as last year. 8-3-1 win loss record. 2.48 gaa and .915 save % and two shutouts His gaa and save % are down from last season, but align with the player turnover in front of him from last season to this year.

Habs prospect on TV alert
4th rounder Alan McShane will be on TV tomorrow, Saturday, December 1st.
3:30 pm ET Kingston vs Oshawa (McShane) across the Sportsnet channels.
McShane comes into the game with 6 points in his last 6 games, not including his game tonight against Guelph (which will be minus Hillis as he serves his second game of his two game suspension for slew footing).

Some of the things out kids did this weekend.
On Friday, McShane had one goal, the GWG. Fringe prospect Koberstein had three assists.
On Saturday, Suzuki had a 1+1 night, with the GWG. McShane had a 2 goal one assist game on national tv, also with the GWG. Walford had two helpers and Poehling had an assist for the second straight night.
Today, Hillis returned from his two game suspension with a 2g 1a game, including the GWG. Teasdale scored his 12th goal of the season.

The Armada lost a lot of firepower (and some coaches!) in the offseason, but Joël Teasdale is modestly leading the way with just over a point per game. Here was his most recent goal.
Team Canada names its preliminary WJC roster today and Teasdale should get an invite to the selection camp. He probably does not make the final roster, but we will wait and see.
