Team WHL and Team Russia are back at it tonight, starting at 10:00 pm ET, 8:00 pm MT, 7:00 pm PT. It is on across the various Sportsnet channels.
Brook, Walford and Romanov in action. For draft watchers, there are four potential first rounders in the 2019 draft on show as well ('tis a good draft year for the Dub):
Dylan Cozens (Lethbridge Hurricanes) Kirby Dach (Saskatoon Blades) Bowen Byram (Vancouver Giants) Nolan Foote (Kelowna Rockets)

I taped the game but haven't watched it yet NWT. Who won? I caught one clip at 1-1 when Brook was penalized. Not the best timing for me.

Brook's progress over the summer and this season is exciting. I really like Fleury too, so the future looks very promising on the right side of the defense corps equation.
It seems like good news that Walford was selected for the tournament because frankly I perceived his development last season as somewhat underwhelming.

From what I’ve seen so far (2 periods) Wahlfird has looked good. He’s a defensive dman so don’t expect scoring. More like a Tanev type.
Brook has been so-so. Some good plays and some bad ones. Ronanov’s been solid and unspectacular.

Has anyone heard an update on Jaret Tyszka who was injured in the prospects game with a concussion? I notice he has yet to play a game this year and does not appear on the Thunderbird roster

This was a well timed pinch by Brook that led to a good shot on net and scoring chance.

Brook, Walford and Romanov all looked fine. I think all were better than in the first game, so they seemed to adjust to the speed. Team WHL had never played together so that held them back, but no more than the jet lag would have bothered the Russians.
I'm glad we didn't get Cody Glass in the Patches deal. He didn't impress me as much as Suzuki has.

Some ECHL news. Phelix Martineau has been tearing it up lately. He has 9 points in his last four games, including two shorties tonight on the SAME penalty kill. Crazy. Verbeek also had two assists tonight, and has three points in his first two ECHL games.
Making a case to get an AHL call up for sure.

Gotta say I enjoy watching Suzuki shoot. Goalies know what's coming and they still can't stop it. I know it's somewhat about competition, but it's been a long time since we had a guy rip through junior with a shot like that.

As you say, goalies know this kid likes to shoot, but he can be quite deceptive prior to shooting, and he gets the release off quickly, often in motion, and with some serious jam to it. He is on TV tonight, along with Cam Hillis and Alexander Romanov as the Canada Russia series shifts to the OHL. Suzuki wears the “C” tonight as well. Game time 7:00 pm ET, 5:00 pm MT and 4:00 pm PT on Sportsnet Ontario, East and 360.

I know it's somewhat about competition, but it's been a long time since we had a guy rip through junior with a shot like that. I love that Suzuki doesn't rush into his shot. So many players rush into their shots, I guess with the intent of getting the puck on net as soon as possible. Suzuki on the other hand uses patience, even though his release is lightning quick. It's a bit counter-intuitive to reconcile patience with a quick release, but it's what the best shooters do to increase their odds of scoring. Take the all-star target competition as an example: do the best shooters in the world rush their shots? Are they one-timing the passes into the targets? No. Even when they're on on the clock in a speed-based competition, they still won't rush their shots. They take their micro-pause, and then shoot with intent. In the main thread, we talk about why the Habs are having trouble scoring, and I think this plays a big part. The Habs tend to put their foot on the gas and generate tons of chances with a "shoot quick" mentality. That's using hope, not intent. This is how it's done:

Olofsson and Ylonen will be playing for SWE and FIN respectively as a short four nations U20 tournament starts in Europe. Olofsson will start as the 1C for Sweden. He has been alternating between the 2C and 3C with his SHL club team Timra. His club coach has him most recently in the shut-down centre role.

Added benefit to Suzuki is that he's right handed. The best PP's seem to overload with RHS, and we have very few and certainly none at the skill positions up front. Getting a shooter out there, from the right, will help an all too predictable pp.

Man, there's nobody there in Sarnia. Ticket prices appear to be comparable to CHL games.

A big head to head matchup weekend for #2 St. Cloud State and #5 Denver. First blood last night went to St. Cloud State who won 4-3. Poehling was a force out there. He had two assists in the win. Denver prospect Stapley had a goal and an assist too. The teams meets again tonight.

Stapley could be a Lightning-esque steal. 7th rounder, not big but put up points in one of the better tier 2 leagues, now a ppg player in his first year of NCAA.

Stapley could be a Lightning-esque steal. 7th rounder, not big but put up points in one of the better tier 2 leagues, now a ppg player in his first year of NCAA. The nice thing is they have four years to let him develop in the NCAA and see what they have in him before having to sign him to his ELC. That worked out nicely for fellow 7th rounder Jake Evans. That is the benefit of drafting late rounders from Junior A, NCAA or Europe.

Walford gets his first of the year. A nice way to pick up after taking part in the Canada Russia series.

He and Flames pick (another late rounder in 18) Pettersen are the future of that club.

And Tatar and a second rounder for a ton less drama. So far, this is one heckuva move.

Video is a bit fuzzy, but Brook is #2 in red (the RHD who makes some nifty moves). He is also the middle guy in the three man synchronized high jump at the end of the video.
