A two point night for seventeen’s prospect. Fonstad notched another goal. Walford had a 1+1 night. Primeau got the win. Suzuki and Teasdale each had helpers in their games. And Josh Brook got another point (see below).
And another example of Brook’s hockey IQ and abilities on the PP. It is safe to say I have been on this bandwagon for a while. Brook processes the game very well.

I know those two big wins really surprised me. Seattle is a bubble team at best. PA is the top ranked team in the entire CHL, and Moose Jaw is an honorary mention, just outside the top ten. Must be the Tyszka factor, right seventeen?

He's a good example of the kind of progression I like to see, at least points wise. 2017 - .463 ppg 2018 - .571 ppg 2019 - .786 ppg If a guy plateaus, it could be he's either too good for that league and is already dominating and can't be bothered to score more (but is still an excellent prospect), or he's plateaued and unlikely to get any better. Consistently improving is a good sign, IMO. The equivalent numbers for Brook are (same years) .884, .711 (injury riddled year) and 1.345. This last number is one that should excite all Hab fans. That's extremely good for a defenseman in the WHL.

Fonstad with a goal and an assist last night. Both were quite nice. #24 in white.
Tyszka wrists one in from the point for the second straight game.

Ylönen gets an assist back in Liiga play. He draws the defender out towards the blue line, and his pass back then opens up the chance for the goal. #72 in white.

Primeau won both games this weekend, including a shutout last night. That is his third NCAA shutout this year. He also has a 12-3-1 record. Since November 9th, he has only lost one game...the WJC gold medal game. Not bad at all...for a seventh rounder lol.

Not Bergevin's brightest idea to use 'Romanov' and '3rd pairing' in the same breath. While, technically, it might be true, "definitely playing in the NHL" comes across much more positively for Romanov, than '3rd pairing all day long". Third pairing defensemen don't make the big bucks. Since he's on the second pairing in Moscow, he might get paid better there.

Our two prospects who were moved at the deadline are enjoying early success with their new teams.
Suzuki had four assists today (see the video Dis posted above for a beauty). He has 8 points in 3 games with Guelph.
Teasdale went 1+1 today. He has 7 points in 4 games since his move to Rouyn-Noranda.

Thanks for sharing that article, NW.
Romanov played great in WJC and it is exciting to have a very promising kid (19 years old) in a position of need. Obviously the option to bring him over next year does not exist and that is not the worst thing in the world because most 19-20 year old d-men, even really solid prospects, are not ready to play in the NHL.
The issue becomes how does Montreal maneuver to gain some certainty that he will come over for the 2020-21 season? Because in reality it would not be optimal (not that it would be terrible) for Romanov's development trajectory and even less positive for the Canadiens if the kid signs a new two year deal with CSKA and thus does not it over until the 2022-23 season. Bergevin needs to be (as seventeen said) talking up his NHL ceiling rather than focusing on third pairing chops. Also, one cannot help but wonder what his representation and family think about the timing of things.

I wouldn't read too much into the "third pairing" line. If anything, if you're really being Machiavellian, it would be a good line. "I know you're under contract in the KHL next year, and you're not coming, but geez, you're already good enough to play on our team... no reason for you to sign an extension in the KHL for after next season, because I've pretty much already confirmed that you're going to be in the NHL two years from now... if you want it."
Romanov can only sign for so much (rookie cap), so the only real incentive Bergevin has to counter the Gagarin Cup opportunity, the uncertainty of a pending lockout two years from now, and the possibility that Romanov won't be allowed to go to the Olympics, is to tell him "you're already an NHLer and you're not going to Laval to make two-way money".
Having said that, I don't think he comes until after the Olympics. With the upcoming lockout, and Bettman insisting there is no point in going to the Olympics, and with rookies capped salary-wise, there really isn't a whole lot of incentive for Romanov to come over early. UNLESS he REALLY wants to play in the NHL, and he has a spot all but guaranteed for him there.

Josh Brook with two assists last night in a 5-2 Moose Jaw win. He now has 32 assists, 41 points in 31 games played. He has already set career highs in goals and points, and will do so in assists with his next helper....all in far fewer games played than in previous years.

With TSN's draft list of top 5 players in the system, where would you put him? I think TSN was Romanov, Poehling, Suzuki, Primeau, Olofsson, Button had some list up that ranked the prospects for all (Canadian?) teams. Poehling was a (imo) preposterous 36 for this year and had no ranking last year. Best forward at the U20 and he's barely in the top 40? I'd put Ylonen and Ikonen ahead of Olofsson. Both have far more offensive ability. Ikonen was injured for the U20 this year, but Ylonen scored a couple of very big goals for the Finns. Some will drop Suzuki because of his U20 tournament, but he picked up where he left off before the tournament and he fit in with Guelph right away after the trade. Poehling, Romanov, Suzuki and Ylonen are 4 very promising pieces imo. I'd be hard pressed to pick one over the others. Primeau and Ikonen would slot in just below for me. That's not a knock on either - especially Primeau. He looks more and more like an incredibly shrewd pick (having traded last minute to get a pick in the 7th round to take him). Olofsson slots in below them.

So Brook isn't in your top 7? He is in my top seven. In some variation of this order, I would have: Suzuki Poehling Romanov Brook Ylonen Primeau Fleury This is only assuming you don't count guys already in the NHL and/or AHL (I would have to check to see what methodology Button or Pronman used), as I would have Juulsen in that top seven for sure.

Three prospects in play last night, and all hit the scoresheet.
Houde was 1+1. The sixth rounder does seem to put up points in spurts and go quiet for stretches. I need to watch a game of his to get a sense of his game.
Fonstad scored his 17th.
Brook had his 10th multi-assist game last night with his 33, 34, and 35th assist of the season. 15 points in his last ten games. Heck yeah he is in my top seven prospects list, just for his vision and hockey IQ alone. He has been a steady and consistent force for Moose Jaw all season.
