As Dis mentioned, Ikonen made his season debut tonight. He managed 17 minutes and was held scoreless. Really good to see him playing again.

Primeau had a rough outing last night, and was even pulled. What does he do tonight? He makes 45 saves in a 2-1 OT win. One heck of a bounce back.

That's a good sign of mental toughness. The ability to shrug off a bad outing and win.

Brett Stapley was the prospect of the night. He had two goals (including the game tying goal in the third) and an assist in a 4-4 tie. He now has 16 points in 19 games in his rookie NCAA season. Not bad for a seventh rounder. He also scored the shootout winner. In the NCHC, the game is officially a tie but Denver gets an extra conference point (they play OT and the a SO for that extra conference point).
He is #7 in white. Wins the face off, goes to the net, and taps in the loose puck for the come from behind tying goal for #3 ranked Pioneers.

Walford with a nice cross ice feed for a PP assist last night. It was his second night in a row with a head to head against a fellow Hab prospect. On Friday, they battled Brook and Moose Jaw (4-0 Moose Jaw, Brook 1a) and last night was Tyszka and Seattle (6-4 Seattle, Walford 1a).

Totally forgot about Stapley, that is cool to see him making some noise as a freshman at Denver.
One cannot help but pull for Ikonen after the bad injury. I have some doubts about him predating the injury related to being such a puck centric player (who is smallish and not elite talent wise. I hope that he is now growing (not his size, jeje, but rather the maturation of his hockey instincts) into the demands of playing professional hockey.
I am really excited about Romanov, but I am not really sure what Wilde is saying specifically in concrete terms. Romanov has a contract with his KHL club for next season and he is not coming over to North America as a 19 year old to play in Laval or in a minor role for the Canadiens. After 2019-20 Romanov has no contract binding him to the KHL. The only incentives that would give him pause is money (NHL entry level contract may be inferior to the take home pay for a top pairing d-man on one of the biggest clubs in the KHL and the Olympics). But if Romanov is dreaming about the NHL then it is actually quite simple for him to pursue the dream as soon as his current contract expires.

All four WHL guys in action last night, including a head to head in Victoria between Fonstad and Walford. Two guys with two point nights. Brook had two assists in a 3-2 OT win, and Fonstad had a goal and an assist in a 4-1 win.

Draft watchers will be watching tonight’s CHL Top Prospects game. While not a guarantee, there is a very good chance at least one future Habs prospect will be in tonight’s game.
Then while the NHL gears up for its Snoozefest weekend, there are tons of Habs prospects on tv. Delete all the rubbish on your pvr, lots of hockey to be had!!

All our CHL guys that were in action recorded at least one point last night, except for Houde who was held off the scoresheet. Walford topped them all with a three point night. He is #7 in blue.
A mainly unremarkable night for our NCAA prospects, but Jack Gorniak had a solid outing with a goal and an assist. He has 4 points in his last 5 games. The jump from high school to NCAA hockey is a big one, so good to see the speedster getting some points. I believe he is on Wisconsin’s second line now, so that is a vote of confidence from the coaches.

What prospects nailed it today? How about Ikonen with two more goals? 3 in 4 games since return from that long injury. Folks forgot about this kid. Walford keeps getting points. He is fighting for a contract, so will it be enough? And Tyszka...finds the scoreboard for seventeen. Heck yeah.
Tyszka had two apples tonight. This was one heck of a one to tie it up late. This is a heck of a good sequence of plays for him.

Another little tidbit on Ikonen. 4 goals in 52 Liiga games last year. 3 in his first 4 this year. Progression. He is also showing better lower body leg strength and more confidence in his play (from those who have watched him). If he was healthy and KK was available, I fully expected these two guys would have been Finland’s top two centres at the WJC. Ikonen needs to get faster and quicker. Strength can help.

An audio interview with Joni Ikonen after his three goals in two game weekend. Seems like he has been working on his strength and quickness...two areas that he will need to improve before taking a shot at the NHL. With his long injury, Ikonen has been an under-the-radar prospect this year, especially with so many others being featured at the WJC and/or having good performances in the CHL/NCAA.

Romanov got his first KHL assist on Saturday, and he followed it up with his first KHL goal today. He jumped into the play, looking a whole lot more like the player at the WJC. Perhaps some growing confidence in his play, his coach giving him more of the green light to jump into the play, or a bit of both.

His first cool KHL souvenir...the first goal puck. Will look nice next to his WJC bronze medal. What's next...a Gagarin cup ring or whatever they give out?

Romanov with a goal yesterday, Olofsson with an assist yesterday, and now Ikonen records an assist in a big win for KalPa today (they are fighting for a playoff spot in Liiga). Too bad Ylonen was held off the scoresheet today.

A little goal frenzy for a few of our boys tonight.
Poehling with two goals and two assists. Check out his second goal in the video...thank you very much.
Fonstad and McShane with two goals each.
Suzuki with 1+1. Teasdale with a goal.

Ooof. Nice.
FWIW, Button thinks Romanov could make the Habs next year. This from a recent clip about the Habs deadline and their needs (in which he doesn't believe the club will stray from what Berg has said re giving up draft picks for rentals, though he did suggest B. Schenn - a historically good pp player with a year left).

Saturday night was alright for a few of our lads. Dis posted the video on what I thought was the highlight of the night for prospects, Stapley’s OT winner.
Fonstad and Brook went head to head. Both had a 1+1 night. PA won 4-3. Check out that crazy angle on Brook’s goal.
Teasdale with two more goals. He now has 30 for the year. Wowza.
Suzuki with an assist and Hillis with a goal (he is back from injury now) as they are now teammates in Guelph.
Two hot hands continued: McShane scored another and Poehling picked up his 5th point of the weekend with an assist.
Overseas, Olofsson picked up an assist for the second straight game. His team is still floundering in last place though, so they may be headed to a relegation play down if it continues.
