Ooof. Nice. FWIW, Button thinks Romanov could make the Habs next year. This from a recent clip about the Habs deadline and their needs (in which he doesn't believe the club will stray from what Berg has said re giving up draft picks for rentals, though he did suggest B. Schenn - a historically good pp player with a year left). He is still under contract with CSKA for one more year, next season. I could see the Habs making a push when his KHL deal is up. They'd have to pay some sort of transfer fee to get him out, Right? I'd be inclined to pay it.

I'd be inclined to pay it. Money would be required. He just turned 19, and is playing on the top team in the second best league in the world. It is not a terrible place for another season. I just don’t think they have to rush him given he is getting good exposure in the KHL. We shall see what Berg does though.

I'm not proposing rushing him, only if they think he's ready to make the jump. I just look at the UFA lhd, and I'd rather have him come over honestly. www.capfriendly.com/browse/free-agents/2020/caphit/all/defense/ufa/desc/1/leftEdler is too old and brittle. Lots of defensive, slow, guys. Gardiner is going to get a boat load because of his age and decent offensive instincts. He'll be 29. He's making $4 million a year, and imo that's more or less what he is. Short term, at $5 million? Maybe. He's going to get a ltd at $6m or more. I can feel it.

According to THIS article, they can't get Romanov over here next year. And that's assuming he even wants to come over. I don't know what his contract is, but I'm going to assume it's comparable, if not more than, what he would make in the AHL. So unless he's guaranteed a spot in the NHL, he might just take the money and come over the year after. This could explain why Bergevin keeps saying "he can play in the NHL right now"; either it's true, or he's trying to trick Romanov into coming over with lure of playing in the NHL sooner rather than later. As the article also points out, there is the lockout and the Olympics to factor in. Even if there was a KHL/NHL agreement, Romanov was picked in the second round and could not be brought over to the NHL by the club that drafted him. Only first-rounders can be “forced over,” in the same way as Jesperi Kotkaniemi was at the start of his rookie season despite a valid Liiga contract with Ässät.
There will be no Romanov in Montreal at the start of the next season. It is not as easy as many think to get players to join the NHL club. All in all, my guess is Romanov doesn't come over next season.

A pair of Habs prospects are on TV tonight.
It is the Beanpot time, where the four Boston area NCAA Division I schools do battle for local hockey bragging rights. Semi #2 features our guys:
Monday February 4 6:00 pm ET Boston University vs Northeastern (Harris, Primeau) TSN2
The winners of the two semis today play in the final next Monday night. Last year, Primeau led his Huskies to their first Beanpot in ages, behind his great rookie goaltending and the top line in NCAA hockey last season. All three of those forwards have moved on, so the offense will have to come from committee to win this year.

Romanov with another assist today. He now has 3 points in his last five games (1g, 2a). Perhaps some positive confidence spill over from the WJC.

All three of those forwards have moved on, so the offense will have to come from committee to win this year. The game went to OT, and was decided in the first minute as Northeastern prevailed with a Madden breakaway goal. NE outshot BU and deserved the win, but Primeau made some big saves when needed. He stopped Farabee twice in breakaways in the second with the game knotted at 1-1, and some nice saves late in the third when BU put on their last push. Harris plays on his off side on the top pairing with star Jeremy Davies (what an assist on the OT winner). I like his skating and his decent gap control. He is still raw and learning the game at this level after a big jump from high school hockey. Northeastern gets to defend its Beanpot title next Monday night against Boston College. TSN2 will have the game. Harris is #2 in black, who helps break up the play that led to the OT winner.

The battle of the two eastern conference leaders in the WHL was somewhat predictably one sided, with #1 Prince Albert winning 5-1. Fonstad with the fifth goal. The Oil Kings had decent man-on-man defensive coverage on this play, but his nifty little backhand gets it done.

Tyszka missed tonight’s head to head match up against Walford, and this fight in his last game sure looks like the reason why. He got hit in the back of the head as they fell to the ice. Not good.

Ylonen with a nice goal. Starts the play on the transition, then uses his speed to go far post for the tip in.

Walford just set career highs in goals and points with a goal against Seattle.
This has to be the craziest thing I have heard. Brook taking faceoffs. Things that make you go hmmmmm.

Mete did paired with Weber and he doesn't touch Romano's skill set. Rookie d-men usually develop faster and better careers under the wing of a Weber. But doubt he comes over. Like to see him though.

A little goal frenzy for a few of our boys tonight. Poehling with two goals and two assists. Check out his second goal in the video...thank you very much. Fonstad and McShane with two goals each. Suzuki with 1+1. Teasdale with a goal. Suzuki reminds me a little of Alex Tanguayish. Likely a 2nd line winger than a center. Not sure he is quick enough at center. Poehlin a bigger faster Danault. Not a big scorer but adds to team in other areas. Brook should make it as a 2nd pairing right d-man. Fleuy has a shot but as a bottom pairing. He is solid defneisively but not much offense there.

Holy Makerel, Batman! What a night for a few of our boys.
Cole Fonstad led the way with two goals and three assists.
Josh Brook had another boring night with two goals and two assists, including the GWG.
Alan McShane had a goal and two assists, including the GWG.
Teasdale had two goals, including the GWG.
Ikonen, Romanov, Tyszka (yeah he is back!), Walford, and Poehling had apples.

This has nothing to do with Habs prospects, but I was clearing up some old papers and came across a program from the 2012 CHL Top Prospects game. That year was a weak one, draft wise (lucky us) but it was interesting going over the list of guys in that game and how few of them are NHL players. It's a long list, so I'll just include the guys who are in the NHL
Team Orr - 20 dressed
Tanner Pearson, Colton Sissons, Chandler Stephenson, Andreas Athanasiou, Radek Faksa, Derrick Pouliot
Team Cherry 20 dressed
Tom Wilson, Brendan Gaunce, Martin Frk, Brett Kulak, Matt Dumba, Ryan Murray
That's it. A few guys like Galchenyuk and Morgan Reilly were injured and didn't play.
Geeze. What a year to get a high pick.

On Saturday night, Teasdale had a three point night with a 1+2 game. Fonstad kept his points coming with two goals, including the GWG. Suzuki had the GWG and Walford had a goal.
Tonight, just three guys in action. Brook with a goal and Suzuki and McShane each had an assist. Pretty nice ones too...have a peek:

Northeastern win the Beanpot for a second year in a row. Primeau also gets the nod as the top goalie with a .952 save percentage over his two games, and he gets the tourney MVP. His performances in big games is getting noticed! Harris also got an assist on the opening goal (see video above).
