For those that missed the Beanpot final on Monday night between Northeastern and Boston College, it was a matchup between two highly regarded US goalies: Primeau (NE) and Woll (BC). They are also prospects of the Habs and Leafs. They are the last two starters for the US WJC teams in 2019 and 2018. It was a great game and both were very good.

With his pair of goals today, Ikonen now has 5 goals and 2 assists in his 10 Liiga games since returning from injury.

Ikonen had a great day, but he was only the second most productive Finnish prospect. Ylonen had two goals (including the GWG) and an assist today. His assist shows off how he uses his speed to generate plays and turnover pucks.

Ikonen with another assist on Saturday. Shows some nice work once he turns over the puck.

Primeau with a pair of wins this weekend, giving up just one goal in each game. A big push for home ice in the playoffs for Northeastern down the stretch in Hockey East.

Nice power move by Teasdale on this goal. He has really flourished since his move to Rouyn-Noranda. As the top ranked team in the whole CHL, you have to think they are the early favourite to represent the QMJHL at the Memorial Cup. However, lots can happen!

A piece on Northeastern freshman/rookie defenseman, Jordan Harris. He was playing high school hockey last year, so quite the jump.

Outside of Kotkaniemi, I think Brook has the highest upside of our prospects. I've really liked his panic threshold and his overall skill and IQ. I'm excluding goalies in this because I think Primeau can also be excellent, but goalies are a crap shoot.

After a very stagnant D+1 year (year after his draft), Scott Walford is really taking his game up a notch, especially in 2019. He has now set new career highs for goals, assists and points. He quietly has 44 points in 55 games this season. He also has points in 8 of his last 9 games, and has recorded 13 points over that stretch. He made a Team WHL in the RUS CAN super series mainly on his reliable play in his own end, but he is adding some more two-way to his game these days.
Will it be enough to get an ELC? Given the Habs have tons of contract space left, I would expect so. This increases if he can finish strong, including in the tougher playoffs. It is still too early to say if he is anything more than a vanilla project, who really does not stand out in any one area. However, it helps that his development has trended upwards. That is always a good thing.
He still has a long way to go to ever be in the same conversation as out top defensive prospects like Juulsen, Brook and Romanov, but at least he is still hanging around to be in the conversation at all. That looked very unlikely to start the season.

There's nothing wrong with a dependable defenseman who can cover 10-15 minutes a game and not hurt you. If Walford ends up there, that's perfectly fine. No team has 6 top 4 d-men.

A few of the lads with pairs last night.
Brook, Ikonen, McShane and Suzuki all had a pair of assists.
Poehling and Teasdale both had a pair of goals.
Tyszka with two points: one of each.

I love the posts by NWT and I started to wonder why? It’s because for several years now this hope that things will get better in the future Trumps the disappointment of the way things have been going. Make the Habs Great Again! The farm is always full of McCarrons that may one day make the team but likely join the army of #1s we picked and traded away for a bag of pucks. Hope springs eternal.

Catching a bit of Brook with MJ this afternoon/evening. 2019 draft prospect, and Warrior team mate, Brayden Tracey has been very noticeable.

He had a three point night last night. That is 8 points in his last two games and 13 in his last five.

Our QMJHL lads led the way last night, followed by a couple of our lesser known NCAA guys. Houde has four assists, Teasdale had three, and both Harris and Gorniak had a pair of apples.
Houde is #88 in white.
