Pittsburgh with a perfect road game by beating the Leafs 3-0 in their own barn ... pretty good game to watch ...
Cheers.

Thank god the Pens shut out the Leafs tonight 3-0 with 2 ENG's. The hype train is derailed for a couple of days at least.
Wow, if they lost 2 in a row, it might bring about the Great Depression.

Did you know ...
Currently there are 4 NHL teams with a higher points percentage than Toronto and you don't here boo about them (Tampa, NJ, Anaheim, Nashville)
Oh, and Montreal has the same points percentage (0.750)

Yeah, and the broadcast crew can keep that champagne on ice a little longer ... I can only imagine what will happen should the Leafs lose two in a row ... jocularity, jocularity (thank you Francis) ... seriously, you're right about Matt Murray ... he gave his team a chance to win the game and they did ... now, if they get Sydney Crosby going ... Cheers.

Blues beat Leafs 4 - 1. Leafs have lost last two by combined score of 7 - 1.

Funny how the tune changes in Leafland after a couple losses. Now there's a video entitled "Young Leafs still getting used to being the hunted."
Cup parade being planned when they win, excuses when they lose.

The Sid vs Connor head to head game was an old school 6-5 OT win, but Sid ended it with a huge exclamation mark.

I doubt McLellan wanted Ryan Strome out against Sid, but the Pens executed a line change faster than the Oil and Sid burned Strome. It seems the most important thing you can do on 3 vs 3 OT is complete your line changes well. Bad ones seem t inevitably lead to goals.

Leaf Nation, TSN and Sportsnet will finally be able to sleep properly tonight after beating the Jets. I was so hoping that third period comeback from the Jets would continue. Alas. I blame it on those fugly third jerseys.

Literally one win later, Button: "Leafs showed they are Stanley Cup contenders"

So after 2 games in which they were outscored 7-1, they are now contenders? Wow, talk about pandering to an audience.

Literally one win later, Button: "Leafs showed they are Stanley Cup contenders" We're into that a bit as well ... we're only 8 games into the schedule and I noticed a TSN 690 podcast asking whether the Habs are this year's edition of the Vegas Golden Knights ... usually doesn't result in good karma ... way too early to determine that ... Cheers.

Vancouver leads the Pacific with 12 points in 10 games. They beat the Knights last night, missing Brock Boeser and Elias Pettersson and with Alex Edler and Sven Baertschi getting injured early in the game.
Just pointing out small samples can be deceiving. The Nucks have 12 points despite some injuries that are more crippling than anything Montreal has faced.

There are some coaches genuinely on thin ice now. It is hard to imagine that Stevens, Yeo, and Hakstol can afford another ten game stretch like the first. The Kings, Blues, and Flyers came into the season with playoff expectations.
Besides Vignealt, who is out there if the axe falls? Sutter? Therrien...surely not? Are any of those clubs positioned to hire internally?

Pacioretty not in against Ottawa. No mention of an injury. Healthy scratch?

Pacioretty not in against Ottawa. No mention of an injury. Healthy scratch? I did see something on a sports ticker about an injury but it was typically vague. In Leaf land the news is that Matthews is out for about a month with a separated shoulder. Wonder if that will speed up the Nylander negotiations?

I know it's early but.....indications are that the Rangers and Red Wings are banking on the Hughes lottery.
I'd rather see him in Detroit....but at least the Rangers were honest with their fans/media.
Los Angeles is an early disappointment, to be sure....

CH, I agree. That was my take as well. Two original six clubs are clearly angling for Hughes. The Red Wings and the Rangers are openly rebuilding so it is not as though anyone can accuse the poor guys out on the ice of losing on purpose.
Is short term shame for long term gain a bad calculation? Well, it is not a guarantee of anything. But plenty of recent Cup winners charted a course that started with bottoming out and drafting elite difference makers.

I thought we'd be in their ranks even at this early point of the season....and I was okay with that. Still am, should we falter. The team, so far, has had other ideas.

Poor Condon. He had a howler (not quite as insane as that one) against the Blue Jackets too.
The Sens defense is porous, but honestly he has quite a few holes in his game.
If I heard correctly, he has been waived. Given his contract, pretty safe to say there will be no takers.

I have a soft spot for Condon. He was asked to do the impossible in a pressure-filled situation. And he did have some great outings.
Begevin got caught with his Price down...and that's when the whole thing unravelled. Berg went all the way to the Bakersfield Condors to get Ben Scrivens as back-up...who must've thought he'd died and gone to heaven!
Too bad Condon has to be waived with that final note ringing in his ears.
