I don't know folatre. 7 x 7 seems quite rich for someone with his stats to date.

For sure, jkr, it is an overpay based on what he accomplished to date. It is a reflection that New Jersey sees him as a talented top six offensive centre who at least projects to be good for 70-75 points per season when he matures and reaches his ceiling.
Basically I think New Jersey became intrigued by Hischier's willingness to do something long term, giving up three UFA years. It is not without some risk, of course. The Devils could end up with a second line finesse centre who averages 60-65 points over the life of the deal. But this kid certainly does have talent and he is also taking a risk by not setting himself up to negotiate an even richer deal in three deals if he suddenly breaks out in a big way.

Calgary must feel quite positive about Rasmus Andersson's future. They just signed the 23 year old soon to be RFA to a 6 year/$27.3 million deal.
From the relatively little that I have watched him, he seems like a good d-man. The contract buys two UFA years and for a guy who looks capable of playing a second pair role, that is probably not a bad contract for Calgary. It perhaps signifies the end for Brodie and/or Hamonic with the Flames.
I wonder what Montreal is thinking in terms of Mete's next contract? Mete's numbers are pretty good, though his role this season has decreased as Bergevin found bigger guys like Chiarot and Scandella to push him down the pecking order. Also, Mete has not yet developed a special teams role of either kind.

Scandella hasn't shown much, yet, but if he is top 4, Bbinz will sign him for a 3-4 year as a precaution to Romanov development. Then if Romanov shows top 6, Mete would be decent value trade bait. A lot of "if" here.....and just as big an if in Metes future as a Hab.

It's a really good deal for both sides. With contract control over Mete, there's no rush to throw big money at him. While he was out, Chiarot and Weber were put together. That pair has unexpectedly been quite good. The acquisition of Scandella was about the poor play of Reilly (and getting out from that contract). Scandella's future with Montreal is more in question than Mete's imo.

Unless Romanov re-signs with CSKA before the end of this NHL season, I would not rush anything in terms of committing to Scandella. He looked like a third pair d-man in Buffalo and while I know it is early to judge in Montreal thus far that is basically what he looks like to me.
Mete is small and he is never going to be able to fully compensate for his physical limitations, but he is a young kid who has improved and his skating is extremely valuable in a league where fast paced hockey is the norm. I would not offer Mete what Treveling gave Andersson, but I would give him a bridge option (2 years/$4 million) or a long-term option (6 years/$24 million).
