Olofsson with the nice little wrister in tight as he comes in as the trailer on the rush. Is he back on the prospect radar? He should get an ELC and see what he can do in Laval.

Tuch and Boston University are up against Maine on Friday. Game is on TSN2 at 3:30pm ET.
Tuch is off to a decent NCAA start, with 3 points (1+2) in his first four college games. BU has a fairly large roster, so guys move in and out of the roster, and up and down the lineup a bit. So, it is good that he is getting some ice time as a freshman.

Olofsson with a secondary assist on Timra’s first goal today. The game is still underway.
A nice cross ice feed for a goal. Second assist.

Dobes named as USHL goalie of the week. ] This past draft we took 3 US high school centerice men in 4th round. What is your opinion of them, and if they have a chance of making it?

Dobes named as USHL goalie of the week. ] This past draft we took 3 US high school centerice men in 4th round. What is your opinion of them, and if they have a chance of making it? Smith - meh. Struggling in the USHL, although I have not seen him play. I was puzzled by this pick given there were some other available. Biondi - he was on my radar screen, but thought he would be gone by the fourth and would go in the third where we had no picks anymore. If he can improve his skating technique (he has some mechanical inefficiencies), he has some potential. Decent size, effort and good skill at the high school level. In a great program at UMD, so he has to earn his ice time as a freshman on a competitive roster. He gets around okay, but could be even more mobile and effective with some better skating mechanics. Get him a skating coach. Farrell - thrilled with this pick. Amazed he dropped this far. I had him going quite a bit earlier. He dropped due to his size and concerns he was not fast enough for a smaller player. He is second in USHL scoring and has only been held pointless in one game. He and Coronato (2021) have some serious thing going on offence this year. He has committed to Harvard, but with them cancelling their hockey season, he is back playing with Chicago in the USHL and taking his Harvard courses online. He lead the USHL in assists last year, but has become more of a dual threat this year shooting more. Harder to defend now. He is a good play driver, and can make plays in motion. Thinks the game well. Works hard. His skating seems fine to me, so it should also get better as he gains more leg and core strength.

I was quite high on him in his draft year. He was a big part of why Timra gained promotion to the SHL from the Allsvenskan that year. He is playing with much more confidence of late, which is good to see.

Tuch gets a secondary assist on Farrance’s goal to open the scoring early in the game. BU ended up winning 3-2 in OT. Tuch is big #11 in white and now has 4 points (1+3) in his first 5 NCAA games. Nashville has a good one in Farrance.

Caufield was a big part of a third period comeback attempt by Wisconsin that came up one goal short. Penn State hung on for the 5-4 win. Caufield with a goal (to bring the score to 5-4 down) and an assist in the third period.

Like you, kind of surprised they took Smith before Farrell. With all our extra picks this year wondering what they will do. I imagine a pick or two will go for depth player at deadline. Another maybe traded ahead til 2022.

One of Dobes’ 23 saves in a big 2-1 win over Sioux Falls and fellow Habs prospect Jack Smith, who was held pointless.
In other USHL news, Farrell with a helper, but his line mate, super 2021 draft prospect Coronato, was held pointless for the first time this season. Chicago still won.
And in his first game with Tri-City after his trade (which apparently he requested), Pitlick notched two assists in a 5-0 win.

Over in the far reaches of the Motherland today, Gordin had a goal and an assist in a 6-4 SKA win. That is one seriously nice one-timer on his goal. Notice he also directs his mate to pass back to the open point, which lead to the real nice set up for his goal.

Joni Ikonen sighting. After missing all of last season due to a leg injury, Ikonen played his first game since 18-19 (and he only played 13 games that season too). His team lost 2-0 today, so he did not register any points of course. He did manage to play 13:30 in ice time. So much lost development time though at a young age.

Quite the crafty move by Gordin here on his PP goal today. It was his 20th MHL goal (he has 15 assists). He has 2 goals in the VHL and none in the one KHL game this season.

Farrell with three assists today (the league correctly changed and gave him credit for three). He assisted on all of their regulation goals in a 4-3 OT Steel win. 40 points in 21 games, and a 18 game point streak.
A consolidated video with all three helpers. #26 in dark.

Biondi was a scratch in UMD’s last game, but he got back in today on their fourth line. On their first shift, he heads the rush towards the net, digs the puck from behind, and sets up the goal. #7 in white.

No prospect action since the weekend, so glad to see a few back in action today. Gordin opens the scoring for SKA-1946 and it ends up being the GWG in a 7-0 rout. Michkov (2023 draft stud) recorded a hat trick today. That kid is a treat to watch given his age.

Gordin snipes another today. NST, would you say the MHL is equivalent to our CHL in quality of play? It is probably a bit below CHL in overall quality, but definitely a notch above Junior A. I find the games are a bit slower and less structured than CHL games. MHL guys have more time and space. Part of the difference is the three tiered system in Russia. A lot of the top young players move up to play in either the VHL (men’s second league) or the KHL. SKA had two guys taken in the top 37 spots in the draft: Askarov and Khusnutdinov have now moved up to the KHL this season. So their U20 team loses its best players before age 20, unlike the CHL (except for the studs that jump to the NHL right away). Gordin’s big weakness is skating. He can get away with it in the MHL, so he does not necessarily improve there. He needs to play more VHL games, but SKA is a deep club and he gets very little time on ice when he is called up. Also, not sure how many of those clubs have access to specialized coaching like skating coaches, from which he could really benefit.
