Leafs lose!!!! Anderson allows 5 goals The Sens have their shortcomings...but they have several finishers. 6th place finish? Nothing like an underdog mentality in a shortened season. Toronto's D-zone play has been erratic thus far..and Andersen's been in his Game 7 mode. So nothing has changed.

Jeje, I am going to refrain from laughing at the Leafs because my recollection is that the Habs lost four times last season to the Red Wings who were truly an epically historically awful team. My son and I mostly watched the Caps-Sabres game tonight. Refs gave Buffalo a boatload of power plays and the Sabres nevertheless seem to be the same old Sabres. Tampa is Tampa obviously. But, man, Chicago could just go an epic tank campaign this season. The Blackhawks really stink. Both Toews & Dach are on LTIR & Seabrook is out as well. www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/30711890/chicago-blackhawks-put-jonathan-toews-kirby-dach-long-term-ir

Great game by the Senators last night ... the biggest thing I noticed was how Ottawa finished all of their checks ... I remember Pierre McGuire saying just how NHL ready Brady Tkachuk was ... 3 pts and 5 hits last night ... he's a big-time character kid who's already wearing an "A" ... Matt Murray didn't face a ton of shots last night, but he was big when he had to be ... Austin Matthews was -3, and he had nothing to say about the Ottawa defence corps ... Freddie Andersen has allowed 9 goals in his first two starts ... Pittsburgh is now 0-2 and has given up 11 GA over that span ... conversely, the Flyers have 11 GF over two games and look like they're in mid-season form ... ... like what I saw from MacKenzie Blackwood the other night against the Bruins ... very impressive season debut, and he should be the Devils undisputed starter now that Corey Crawford has retired ...
Cheers.

Huh, did he say that? Does Kane thinks he is in the NBA or NFL where he can renegotiate mid-stream? Not to mention, why would he be so sure that given the current finances (cash flow problems and cap headaches) of the league that he would actually be in line for a larger contract? I’d think he would want it terminated so he would lose less money in bankruptcy...

With the Oilers in a goaltending jam, and with Lindgren in our taxi squad and ready for no quarantine, Berg should pounce. Get an asset out of Holland and the Habs could still move up Demchenko to the taxi squad (he was a KHL starter) and let Primeau and McNiven look after Laval. The team could always get a #6 goalie on an AHL deal just in case like Couvee the last few years.

And helping out anyone in our division seems risky. But that means all transactions this year will mean quarantine or added risk...

A more Pollok-ian way of looking at it might be "what if Lindgren can take away some points from the rest of the division?" Instead of the Oilers becoming the division's punching bag, maybe Lindgren can steal 3-4 points away from Calgary/Winnipeg/Vancouver? Rather than those teams getting all the points in non-Koskinen games maybe the difference is split a little bit? After Monday's game we don't play the Oilers again until February 11th, and then not until March 22nd. Of course the danger in that is what if the rest Koskinen gets causes him to win an additional 3-4 points, because the Oilers won't have to throw him out there every night? Lindgren getting 3 points, Koskinen getting 3 points, the Oilers getting 6 more points than maybe what they would have had... Of course, that's six points that wouldn't go to some other divisional rival. Mind you, those six points would be spread out amongst 4-5 teams... But with only three teams missing the playoffs maybe it's better to have a divisional punching bag...

...A more Pollok-ian way of looking at it might be "what if Lindgren can take away some points from the rest of the division?" This leads to the question of how many games we have left against a team before a trade. We play Vancouver 3 times next week, then twice 2 weeks later. Maybe a trade with them after that leads to improvement at low risk, since at the very least a trade isn't going to hurt us much in our remaining games against them. I wouldn't be surprised to see very few trades this year, especially in Canadian markets. Helping out your division rivals or having guys in quarantine means you only make trades if they're kind of meaningless (ie, we don't lose out much, we just get something for a wasted asset) or totally essential (key player is gone for the year and we need to replace him). There aren't that many deals that fit those criteria. Plus with the flat cap it's not like salary issues won't be another blocker.

Lindgren, IMO, has no further value other than being available in case the Zamboni driver gets injured during an intermission.

Aaron Dell is on waivers. I could see the Oilers taking a swing.

If Edmonton badly wants to give someone a chance, he'd be a reasonable gamble. Maybe this year it clicks for him - it happens. Calgary tried out something like 6 goalies one year, until something clicked with one, and they rode the hot hand. Edit: that year was 98-99 for the Flames. Didn't feel that long ago. I feel old.

Dell picked off waivers by the Devils. Third string and depth goalies are not clearing waivers so far this season.

Isles best Boston 1-0. Not having Pastrnak is hurting the Bruins. Love it. .500 record so far for Boston. 🙂

I was watching highlights this morning and saw that in off all places, Florida, they are allowing spectators in limited numbers.
We may need a separate thread for the jokes about this.

Things are getting nasty between the Senators and the Jets. Ottawa's trying to get chippy against Winnipeg's top line. Tkachuk and Beaulieu were about to go but the two linesmen jumped in and cancelled that fight card. Actually, that would be a pretty good scrap because Tkachuk is a heavyweight yapper but not a heavyweight fighter so him and Beaulieu are about even.

Funny, after the dustup at the end of their last game, Ottawa dressing the 35 year old Michael Haley (him with all of 200 NHL games) to fight Beaulieu because, I presume, they don't want the big yapper Brady Tkachuk answering the bell.
Strangely, if Haley is supposed to be super tough, Beaulieu basically fought him to a draw.
