Pitlicks, Pitlicks, everywhere Pitlicks.
Congratulations to Rhett on what felt like a breakout week for him.

A few overseas updates from yesterday/overnight.
Kapanen is still playing with IPK in Mestis and had an assist and played just under 22 minutes in a 4-2 loss. All good news to me.
Norlinder played in his second game back since his return from injury (he was slammed face first into the boards) and played on the second pairing and played just under 15 minutes. They are easing him back into the lineup.
Kostenko’s team won 3-1, and he was without a point but played 22 minutes of ice time.
At the Olympics, both Farrell and Dichow saw their teams lose in the first knockout games. The USA have to be very disappointed losing to Slovakia in the shootout (Farrell was one of five shooters who missed) as they came in unbeaten. He goes home with six points from a third line role.
Dichow and Denmark must be thrilled. Another close loss to the Russians, but two big victories along the way. Dichow played in one game, the preliminary loss to ROC giving up just one goal. Successful tourney for both. And a segue to draft talk, the first Slovakian goal was scored by Slafkovsky, his fifth of the games. What a tourney for the big 17 year old.

Here was Roy’s 21st goal and 59th point of the season last night. Sherbrooke’s only goal in a 2-1 loss.
Today, both Gordin and Kostenko had an assist. Gordin’s was in a 2-1 Kapitan (MHL) loss. Kostenko’s was in a 5-2 Khimik (VHL) win.
Oh, and two Swedish kids play in half an hour. Norlinder and some kid named Heineman. I am sure the overseas interest in the Leksands game will see a big spike today lol.

A first highlight from Heineman as Habs property. Nope, not a beauty goal nor an assist. Just a nice seek and destroy hard check into the boards. He is playing 4th line RW today. Energy line.

He has those long strides that eat up space.
Watched highlights of Johnny Gaudreau yesterday. He's fast, no? On this clip he was backchecking and his legs were going 100 mph, but the Duck ahead of him carrying the puck was opening up space. Furious leg movement does not equal fast.
Now, if we're talking quick and agile......

A chance to see #10, Joshua Roy, on TSN2 or streaming on their app tomorrow night (Friday, February 18).
And if you are a prospect junkie, the Charlottetown Islanders (Trudeau, Simoneau) are streaming on CBC Gem starting at 6:30 ET tomorrow night as well.
Three of our four Q prospects in one night.

Some Euro action complete on what will be a busy Friday for prospects all around.
Gordin was held pointless in a 1-0 loss but still played over 17 minutes after playing over 20 yesterday. Olofsson was the 2C and was also held pointless as Björklöven was thumped 6-1 today.
Kapanen had an assist in a 2-0 IPK win. That is his third straight Mestis game with a point and 4 points in 6 games in that men’s league. He is also getting lots of ice time, which is good for development.

Biondi and Pitlick. Goal apiece!
Kidney scored another, Roy with an assist on their only goal, and Simoneau had a 1+1 game in the Q.
Myšák with a goal and two helpers. Vrbetic with an OT win.
Roy’s assist within the dying seconds.

So, the Habs shiny new toy only played 2:36 last game and only played one more shift after what looks like a high open ice hit part way through the first. He is missing in today’s Leksands game.
Here are Heineman’s shifts from that game on Thursday. You do get a quick glimpse at his size and mobility. Hopefully he is back soon.

Xhekaj with a great assist on the opening goal against Kingston this afternoon. Dogs win a blowout 8-2. Myšák got in the action late with an assist on the 7th goal. His main job was shadowing Wright and winning faceoffs against him. He went 11 of 14 and kept Wright off the scoresheet (not a common occurrence). Oh, and when Wright got into the offensive zone, he more often than not had to deal with Xhekaj the beast. Hamilton have owned Kingston at home this season.

Today’s Oil Kings vs Winnipeg Ice game is being streamed on TSN app. Guhle versus Savoie/Geekie (top ten 2022 draft). I will be in the stands again. Game time is 4:00pm ET.
CHL TV is also free viewing its Family Day afternoon games today. The best one for Habs prospects is Acadie-Bathurst vs Charlottetown as it features three prospects (Kidney, Trudeau, Simoneau). You need a free account to watch. That game is at 3:00pm ET I believe.

Guhle’s assist today in the clash of the titans Oil Kings (CHL #3) and the Ice (CHL #1). Good guys prevail 6-3 in front of 8207. A really nice pass to Williams for the deflection PP goal. Guhle got to spend lots of time against Savoie’s line today.

Some Euro action complete today.
Playoffs started in the VHL and Khimik prevailed 3-2 in a game that went into the first minute of 3OT to decide. Kostenko with an assist. Khimik up 1-0 in their first round series.
Kapitan doubled up Dynamo 4-2 and Gordin had a pair of assists.
In the SHL, it should have been a head to head between Norlinder and newbie Heineman, but the latter is still out with injury. Norlinder skated for just under 17 minutes in a 5-4 OT win. No points.

Update from yesterday’s action.
Khimik lost 5-1 and are now tied 1-1 in their opening round of playoffs. Kostenko with an assist on their only goal.
Simoneau with another multi point night with a goal and assist.
Roy had a goal and two assists in a 5-4 Sherbrooke win.
Roy is back in the top spot for Q scoring and Simoneau is 4th.
Edit: Oh, and Mailloux returned from injury last night. He had an assist in a Knights win.

Olofsson seems to be enjoying his stint with Björklöven. He had a goal and assist in a 4-2 win against Dichow’s team. Unfortunately Dichow was the backup today.
That is 11 points in 15 games for Olofsson, but 10 in his last 10 games.

Lots of prospect action last night.
Roy with another three points: one goal and two assists.
Guhle had a pair of assists as the Oil Kings beat Regina and Bedard again.
Myšák and Xhekaj each had an assist as the Dogs beat up North Bay and Vrbetic 7-2. He was chased in the game.
Biondi had a pair of goals in a 3-1 UMD win. He still leads his team in goals.

Just let this sink in. Sure, Sherbrooke scored 9 tonight and won running away. Joshua Roy had one goal (sounds about right) and five assists (okay, that is impressive). Just wait until he adds lower body strength and improves his skating. Talk about a kid that has recommitted to getting better as a hockey player. From a first overall Q draft selection, to falling to the fifth round in the NHL draft, to leading the Q in scoring as an 18 year old and being among the last cuts for Team Canada at the recent WJC. He was just over a month away from being in the next draft too, so one of the younger picks. Just get that skating and strength stuff sorted, and he could be quite the gem.
He was first star tonight. And just for kicks, he was LW but took 4 faceoffs and won them all. When it is working, it is working.

Xhekaj with a nice goal in a big 10-2 Hamilton win today.

Vrbetic bounced back with a 26 save win 6-2 this afternoon.
