Hamilton sweep North Bay. 12-0 in the playoffs and into the finals in style. Myšák with the hattie and Xhekaj with a goal. Vrbetic did not start the last three games. Guess that was a good cal coach 😆 The Oil Kings game is going very well for Guhle and the boys. More to come later. The video has all three of Jan’s goals tonight. #19 in white Thanks NWT. Was Mysak playing wing? He did not take a faceoff on one of the goals, so I wondered. One thing he showed on all three goals was a) an ability to find space (either that or it was really bad defending by NB) and b) a very quick release. The quick release is important. You don't have time in the NHL to corral the puck, settle it down, look for an opening, etc., etc. So much better to just let it go before the goalie is set. So many more holes for the puck to find.

A PP goal late in the third by Simoneau ends up being the GWG in a 3-2 win against Sherbrooke. Simoneau had an assist earlier. Roy held off the scoresheet. The Islanders are up 2-1 in their series.

He only took two draws last night. They have him being the main guy on a shutdown third line, so nice to see him contribute a bit more on the offence.

Congrats Joshua. Personality of the year can be won by players or staff. Previous winners of the trophy include Ducharme, Therrien, Marty Lapointe and several ex-Habs. Of course guys like Crosby and Lafrenière won as well. It is given to the individual who helps promote the image of the league.

Speaking of Roy, it is hard to imagine that his amazing season could actually end tonight. Charlottetown hold a 2-1 series lead in their best of five semi final match. Game four is tonight in Sherbrooke. Do Simoneau and Trudeau advance to the league finals, or do Roy and chums prevail and force a deciding game five?

Watched him in all three games this past week. He was good!

Yes, he seems to have expanded the offensive side of his game, which (while not weak) was the weakest part of his game. I keep seeing a lot of Shea Weber in him. He's a guy who makes opposing players pause a bit when they're attacking. Physical, very good skater and just defensively responsible. He doesn't give the opposition much space or time.
Because of Covid he only played 3 games in 2020-21. The year before he posted .63 points per game and upped that to .88 in 2022 while with Prince Albert. After the trade to Edmonton, he posted 25 points in 25 games and even I can do that math without a calculator. In the playoffs, where a lot of players tail off a bit, Guhle has gone up to 1.08 ppg in 13 games, and really increased his goal scoring with 6 of his 14 points being goals. That's only 1 less than he scored in 42 regular season games.
I doubt he spends any time in Laval, and that helps the left side of our defense. We could also play him alongside Romanov and require opposing wingers to change their shorts frequently.

Roy with a goal to make it 2-1 Charlottetown after one period. Must win for Sherbrooke.

Simoneau gets a five plus game for a hit from behind.
And Sherbrooke get one right back on the PP. Assist Roy.
And now 4-3 on the same PP. Same folks involved. Three points for Roy. This one is not over!

Charlottetown prevail 4-3 tonight and win the series 3-1. Off to the finals for the first time. Good for Simoneau and Trudeau. The latter ended up with the GWG and series winning goal tonight. They await the winner of Quebec Shawinigan.
Habs prospects in all three league finals.
Roy should get an ATO invite to Laval next, you would think. What a run. What a season.

Flint vs Windsor (Sobolev) in game 7 tonight to determine the other OHL team in the league finals. Edit: Windsor advances.
TSN will cover all the QMJHL, OHL and WHL final series games from game three onwards. Here are the confirmed Habs participants in the league finals, and it is an impressive list:
QMJHL - Charlottetown (Simoneau and Trudeau) OHL - Hamilton (Myšák and Xhekaj) OHL - Windsor (Sobolev) WHL - Edmonton (Guhle)

Mailloux has been put through hell for a poor judgement by a 17 year old kid 4,000 miles away from home during covid. He has done evrything asked of him to reHABilitate himself despite losing time and experience. He shows talent despite injuries. Give the kid a break! Potential #1 D.

I think I understand what Hughes may be doing. What are the kid's values? Talk is so cheap that it's relatively painless to say all the right things, but if a situation takes place in life or on the ice, how will he react? In Hughes' shoes I would have talked to an expert psychologist and asked them what kind of plan to put in place for Mailloux which would help the team understand his values. Does he respect women? Does he respect opponents? Is he quick to anger? Etc. etc. Heck, Hughes may have already done all that. The answers to that question about his values (and his judgment) would make the Habs' decision for them. Unfortunately, that matter, whether it is resolved or not, will always be attached to his career. It might be better for all concerned if he was traded somewhere where those factors don't matter much. The Hawks? NHL Head Office?

Seattle draws first blood with a 2-1 victory over Edmonton behind a superb 43 save effort from Thomas Milic. Oil Kings doubled the Tbirds in shots, but Milic was a rock.
Guhle with no points, but he had three thunderous open ice hits tonight. Sent one guy to the room for the night. He was in a mean mood tonight.

Xhekaj in some hot water last night. He was given five and game for this hit in OT. Windsor won in OT to take game one and hand Hamilton its first loss of the OHL playoffs. Myšák had been playing hurt, and got tangled up in last night’s game and had to leave the game again. Hope he is not out long.

I don't agree (naturally). The part about leaving his feet is patently wrong. Xhekaj is braced properly, but the other guys is turning and starts to go down. Xhekaj's left skate runs into the other players skates and Xhekaj loses balance and starts to fall, whereby his rear skate comes up and off the ice. Boarding?....ok, because he was a bit too close (not much) to the boards, but a 2 minute minor not a major. Reputation came into this. The leaving your feet part really bugs me. Normally a guy explodes up like a rocket ship. Xhekaj is just cruising into his player like you do in a normal check.

Xhejak with a memorable game. Hamilton win 5-4 to even the series with Windsor 1-1. Xhejak with the GWG, one assist, and a scrap. That was good for the third star.
Simoneau with two helpers but it was not enough as Shawinigan upset Charlottetown in OT to take a 2-0 surprise lead in their series.
Guhle was without a point today, but the Oil Kings won to even their series at one apiece.
Game three of the OHL finals is tomorrow (Monday June 6) at 7:00 pm and it will be broadcast on TSN4/5. Three prospects in that game: Xhejak #8, Myšák #19, and Sobolev #10.

So far, 10 minutes in and Xhekaj (X) has made 4-5 plays I really like. He reads the play well and has made quick passes. He knows where to move the puck before he gets it. I want to see some defensive work but the play hasn’t gone that way yet.

Man, Hamilton is defensively undisciplined. Ive seen several instances of 2 guys pick chasing, causing odd man rushes. X made the wrong play on Windsor’s second goal.

Yeah, his mate got caught up high so he had to decide which guy to cover. Half a step and he might have got to the guy and cut the pass off. Anyway, wild last minute with one goal each. Missing two of their D regulars has also mixed up their pairings too.

Xhekaj’s partner tonight, #2 Grushnikov, with another bad play that lead to a Windsor goal. He is having a bad night.
Earlier, that was a very nice rush by Xhekaj to get in tight and a good scoring chance.

Exceptionally tidy road win for the Oil Kings tonight in Seattle with a 4-0 game to take a 2–1 series lead. Game four is a quick turnaround as it goes tomorrow night.
Guhle scored his 7th with a nice wrister off a loose puck to get the insurance goal to make it 3-0.

Another good night for prospect watching (should be every night now with TSN’s coverage of the three finals).
Simoneau and Trudeau and the Charlottetown Islanders are up against an unfamiliar wall being down 2-0 after two losses on home ice. Can the favourites bounce back tonight and make a series of it? Tune in at 7:00pm ET to find out.
Guhle and the Oil Kings were a road warrior machine last night in Kent, WA against the Seattle Thunderbirds. Can they take a stranglehold in their series tonight and take a 3-1 series lead back home to AB for the remainder of the series? Tune in at 10:00pm ET and find out.
Both games on TSN3.
