Well, the Bulldogs are in for sure and likely will finish second or third, as will Rochester Americans. In those two scenarios the only thing up for grabs in home ice advantage. Here are the times of the first round games that start later next week.
Scenario 1: Rochester Americans (2) vs. Hamilton Bulldogs (3) Game #1 – Thursday, April 19th – 7:05 p.m. – Hamilton at Rochester (Blue Cross Arena) Game #2 – Saturday, April 21st – 8:05 p.m. – Hamilton at Rochester (Blue Cross Arena) Game #3 – Sunday, April 22nd – 6:00 p.m. – Rochester at Hamilton (Copps Coliseum) Game #4 – Tuesday, April 24th – 7:30 PM – Rochester at Hamilton (Copps Coliseum) Game #5 – Thursday, April 26th – 7:05 PM – Hamilton at Rochester (Blue Cross Arena)* Game #6 – Saturday, April 28th – 7:00 PM – Rochester at Hamilton (Copps Coliseum)* Game #7 – Monday, April 30th – 7:05 PM – Hamilton at Rochester (Blue Cross Arena)*
* If necessary
Scenario 2: Hamilton Bulldogs (2) vs. Rochester Americans (3) Game #1 – Wednesday, April 18th – 7:30 PM – Rochester at Hamilton (Copps Coliseum) Game #2 – Friday, April 20th – 7:30 PM – Rochester at Hamilton (Copps Coliseum) Game #3 – Saturday, April 21st – 8:05 PM – Hamilton at Rochester (Blue Cross Arena) Game #4 – Wednesday, April 25th – 7:05 PM – Hamilton at Rochester (Blue Cross Arena) Game #5 – Friday, April 27th – 7:30 PM – Rochester at Hamilton (Copps Coliseum)* Game #6 – Sunday, April 29th – 6:05 PM – Hamilton at Rochester (Blue Cross Arena)* Game #7 – Tuesday, May 1st – 7:30 PM – Rochester at Hamilton (Copps Coliseum)*
The Dogs final four regular season games have them hosting Grand Rapids tonight (they are winning!) and again on Friday night, with away games in Grand Rapids (3 games in a row against them) on Saturday and in Rochester on Sunday. Home ice advantage could come down to that matchup to end the regular season on Sunday. The NHL Network is replaying that game on April 18th (one week tonight) for those who want to catch a glimpse of our prospects.
With Lappy, Kosty, Price and tough dude Stortini from the Oil all reporting for duty, and with Milroy just back from injury and Grabovski recovering from a finger surgery and expected back in a few weeks, this could be a good playoff run for the boys. Keep ya posted as the games start.

Dogs lose 4-3 in a SO tonight to Grand Rapids. They are now guaranteed at least third in their division with the single point tonight. However, they gave up a 3-1 lead after two and the extra point would have them tied with Rochester for second. Price and Kosty did not dress, but Lappy did and he scored in his first game back.

Lappy is a keeper for sure... but, I start to wonder about Grabovsky... yes he seems ultra speedy, he has the talent and doesn't seem to shy away from physical play (at least, that's what his girlfriend told me!?!)... but I find him smallish and even though I believe small players can make a big impact and are not t be overlooked at, he seems fragile and injury prone. I sure hope he bounces back from injury and proves himself during the AHL playoffs... and I think he can do it... but, just prove it to me!!!
Also, i'm looking forward to see -read- more about O'Byrne and Côté... We always hear about how we are so thin on defense but I can't wait to see the young guys step up...

Dogs win a big one on the road, 4-2 against Grand Rapids setting up a big home ice advantage showdown against Rochester tomorrow. Danis with the win as Price stays behind in Hamilton to work with Rollie and he gets the start tomorrow in Rochester. Kosty still nursing that slight groin tear and Grabovski recovering from a finger injury/surgery. stats.theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1003286

Grabovski scores 17 seconds into the 2nd OT, Corey Locke nets the hattrick and Price the big win as the Dogs beat Rochester 5-4 tonight to take a 2-1 lead in their Calder Cup playoff series. Game four is on Tuesday night in Steeltown.

Did anyone see the game? How good was Price? Hard to tell since there were 4GA, but that doesn't mean he wasn't good.

Box score below stats.theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1003348Craig Anderson, the Rats goalie, had a good game save percentage wise. It looks like the Dogs had more pressure in the game, came back from a 2 goal deficit, gave up a tying goal in the last minute of regulation and then Grabovski with the OT winner 17 (blush) seconds into the 2nd OT. Good character win by the boys after giving up the lead. And Kostitsyn is yet to play. If he comes back soon and he and Grabovski get their game legs going, this team could go a ways. It appears that Kostitsyn must have been playing with some injury late in the season. Which might explain his lack of scoring in the last few games. Cause he looked so good prior to that.

I was at the game tonight. The Amerk's first goal was a soft one. The next two were tough ones to stop - one was the result of a complete breakdown by the Dogs' defense and the next was on the PP. The game tying goal in the last minute of the third looked like a case of the Dogs getting nervous and blowing coverage. They couldn't get the puck out of their own end (other than by icing it) and ultimately Jancevski (I believe) coughed the puck up behind the net and the next thing you know, bingo, it's in the net. All in all Price looked ok. He wasn't spectacular, but he made some nice saves. One thing I will say, I have never seen a goalie look more relaxed, regardless of the game situation. He never panics and looks like he's just out there having fun. Also, he's huge. He has an interesting habit of stretching up to look over players in front of the net (almost like he's standing on his toes) when the puck is being controlled by the other team up high.
Grabovski played a really tough game, in the sense that he was getting his nose dirty, despite the fact it was his first game back from an injury. Nice to see him get rewarded with the game winner.
Milroy had a penalty shot in the first OT but obviously missed. Other than that he and Dagostini weren't really much of a factor.
Lapierre and Stortini were playing in your face hockey all night. They both showed a lot of discipline as well, for the most part.
Corey Locke had a monster game, scoring the natural hat trick after the Dogs fell behind 3-1. He was involved the whole night as well.
Basically the Dogs dominated in the Amerks' end of the ice but had a lot of difficulty in their own end too often. Rochester is good at forcing the play in the other team's end. A good win for Hamilton - they never quit.
P.S. - Anderson played a tremendous game in net for Rochester. The Dogs could easily have scored 7 or 8 goals if it wasn't for him.

Pat Hickey seems to think Price is "too cool." Bulldogs battle back, get goalie off hookHot Canadiens prospect Carey Price struggles last night, but escapes with a win

Goaltender Carey Price looked cool last night. The problem, as one Canadiens insider suggested, was that he looked "too cool."
Price put the Hamilton Bulldogs in a precarious position when he allowed three goals on the first 12 shots he faced. Allowed is the operative word here, because Price, who led Canada to the gold medal at the world junior championships back in January, looked soft on all three goals.Da Rest

I read that he started the 3rd with a big save. Good on the kid. All part of the process. Go Bulldogs! Cheers.

4 goals on 19 shots for a 4-3 loss tonight at home. That evens the series up and it now heads back to Rochester 2-2 instead of 3-1, so a huge momentum swing in this series for sure. I did not get to listen to tonight's game so cannot pass judgement of the play of the Dogs, and Price in particular. I am sure other posters that were at the game will have more to say. The good news is they still only need two more wins to get out of this round alive and kicking. Bad news is that Kosty senior still not back from injury. stats.theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1003349

That's okay NWT, Hickey was there, and passed on his judgement. As an aside, this is the second faintly negative article Hickey has written on Price... Price shows he needs some work in the minorsHabs' goalie prospect struggles in playoffs

There's a picture from his childhood that helps explain why Carey Price is where he is today.
Price, who appears to be about 10 years old, is decked out in full goaltender gear. Standing behind him and slightly to the left in the picture is his father, Jerry, wearing the same equipment.
Jerry Price was a goaltender whose pro career ended a few levels below the National Hockey League, but he was his son's first coach and the biggest influence on his development.
He introduced his son to the position when the family was living in Anihim Lake in the B.C. interior. And any parent who complains about getting up to drive his son to practice should be aware that for several years, the Prices drove 320 kilometres three times a week so that Carey could play minor hockey in Williams. The Gazoo[/color]

In game 3 Price was ordinary. Last night to say he was ordinary would be grossly overstating his play. The game was Hamilton's but for lacklustre goaltending.
The Dogs came out flying and built an early 2-0 lead but then seemed to turn off the offensive jets and never really managed to turn it back on again. Even with that, they kept Rochester at bay for the most part, but a few soft goals did them in.
I don't know if Lever goes with Danis tomorrow or puts Price back in. Don't want to break the kid's spirit, but on the other hand maybe he needs a break.

It's anybody's guess what Lever will do with the goalies for tomorrow, but I think we can already assume he'll do the wrong thing. Like, leaving Stortini on the top line too long last night, and breaking up the Cory Urquhart line, and calling off the forecheck once they were up 2-0, even though this team can't trap to save their lives...
Oh, Don... what a different team this would be without you...

excellent, happy to see that they put him back in, he plays until they lose out of the playoffs as far as i'm concerned, he can't have in the back of his mind that he may lose the starting job, he's our future and danis isn't his rival to the throne.

Does S. Kostitsyn now get signed, now that London is out, and join big bro? I know A. is out right now, but that would be something to see. Any news on the Habs offering S. a contract?

Dogs won game one last night in Winnipeg 2-1. Price with the first star and 24 saves for the night. Four goalposts, but he did his job and got the first win on the road. They had a long layoff between series and I imagine Rollie was working on a few things with him over the week. Game two is tonight at the MTS Centre in the 'Peg.
Go Dogs Go.

Dogs take two in a row in Manitoba's barn, with a huge 3-2 win tonight. Carey Price made 41 saves to earn the win and the first star for the second straight game. Urquhart, Lapierre and D'Agostini with the goals in the big win. The series now switches to Hamilton for three straight (if the third is needed) as it is a 2-3-2 series. stats.theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1003389

I really didn't expect to see his name here. yeah he's been with the canucks since he played with them i believe the last season before the lockout. he's been with the moose for 2 years now, he said he loves hockey and had no problem playing there. i'm actually suprised that they never call him up, i think it is because he'd have to clear waivers and someone might pick him up. or that he's just not good enough for the nhl anymore.
