Wolves win 1-0. Brathwaite with the SO. Right back at it Saturday at 7 pm. Shots 37-14 in favour of the Dogs. It was not like they did not give it all tonight, they wanted to win. A must win game tomorrow to avoid going back to Chi-town for the last two games.

It looks like they had a ton of PP chances in the first 2 periods and just didn't get it done. Better luck tomorrow.

I didn't think Fred Brathwaite was this good. game story: www.hamiltonbulldogs.com/index.php?module=newser&func=display&nid=580

The Dogs certainly carried the play last night but with the exception of a handful of scrambles Brathwaite had a pretty easy night.Like the big club this team has no real finishers.I've been disappointed in Grabovski seems to be a lot of flash and dash without the finish,he gets knocked of the puck a lot and plays way to much as an individual at times. The Dogs despite the shots still give up too many chances to get the puck to the net, and few if anyone seems to want to pay the price in front on a consistent basis. The powerplay is pretty much non existent they are a little to fancy, looking for the perfect setup, they need to dumb it up.A quaterback on D wouldn't hurt, but they don't have one.The Habs need D man badly, preferably one that could control the game. Not being able to win faceoffs also killed them last night they must have lost 7 or 8 in a row in the wolves zone as the game was winding down.As well as they played over all it was very frustrating to watch the missed chances and frequent broken plays. To Chicago's credit they played pretty hard especially in their zone, they are an older club and that showed last night. The farm is certainly developing what looks to be some solid soldiers but nobody looks to be of the superstar variety as of yet. The Dogs are better and much faster and I'm sure they'll get it done tonight, but with the lack of finish that is glaring right now Price is going to have to be the difference maker if they have any chance of what looks to be Hershey. Go Dogs HFTO

Price showed tonight why the Habs are so high on him. He made some fantastic saves and was full value for his first star selection. The only goal Chicago scored came at the end of a PP on a shot from up high with lots of traffic in front of Price - he went down in the butterfly and tried to make himself as large as possible but he never saw the puck as it flew over his shoulder. Chipchura was also impressive; in fact Hamilton shut down the Wolves top line for the third game in a row largely thanks to the work of Chipchura's line.
THe finals don't start until next Friday. It's going to be very tough for the Dogs to prevail against a very strong Hershey team. I think Price will have to be the best player on the ice for the Dogs to have a chance.

The less respect Hershey has for us, the better.

wow, what a shocker, chips and price, whl players dominating when it comes to crunch time and medicine hat and vancouver giants in mem cup final. the whl is the best jr league in the world for developing playoff performers.
0 for 7 on the pp stands out to me, still no finish/snipers eh.

Haven't the Dogs far exceeded realistic expectations this season?
I remember reading/hearing shouts of "Fire Lever".
I read where it was going to be a tall order to get past Rochester, let alone Manitoba and Chicago.

Haven't the Dogs far exceeded realistic expectations this season? I remember reading/hearing shouts of "Fire Lever". I read where it was going to be a tall order to get past Rochester, let alone Manitoba and Chicago. I fully expected the Dogs to beat Rochester. Manitoba I figured to be tough, but I still believed that with hard work and a break or two (or some fine goaltending) they could be had. Beating Chicago, especially in 5, was a surprise to me. Optimistically I felt they had a chance (the Dogs did beat them 3 out of 4 in the regular season) but I figured the Dogs would have to be firing on all cylinders and the series would go at least 6 games. Maybe my concerns with Hershey will end up being nothing as well. The Dogs lost to Hershey 3-2 in October (the disasterous Danis play with 4 seconds left in the 3rd of a tied game with the Dogs on a powerplay - Danis comes out of his net to intercept a puck shot down the ice by Hershey and promptly shoots it right at a forechecking Hershey player who dances around Danis and flips the puck into the open net!) and beat them handily 5-2 in Hershey in February. Goal-wise Hershey outscored Hamilton 305 to 243 and were close defensively, giving up 219 goals vs. Hamilton's 208 against. Hershey led the AHL in points, with 114 vs. Hamilton's 95. Players of note for Hershey include Alexandre Giroux (42-28-70), Joey Tenute (28-39-67), Dave Steckel (30-31-61) and Chris Bourque (25-33-58). Interestingly, these guys actually aren't the leaders for the Bears in the playoffs. Scott Barney (8-9-17), Tomas Fleischmann (4-13-17), Kyle Wilson (7-8-15)and Mike Green (7-6-13) are the Bears' playoff leaders. By comparison, the Dogs' leaders in the playoffs are Corey Locke (8-8-16), Kyle Chipchura (5-6-11), Duncan Milroy (1-9-10), Danny Groulx (4-5-9) and Jonathan Ferland (3-6-9). Grabovski has only 2 goals and 5 assists thus far. We need more out of him if we're to be successful against Hershey. The Bears' two main goaltenders split the work load during the regular season: Frederic Cassivi (22-10, 2.36 GAA, 0.921 save %) and Maxime Daigneault (23-6, 2.64 GAA, 0.910 save %). Cassivi has played the entire playoffs, going 12-2, 2.27 GAA, 0.923 save %. For the Dogs Price is now 11-5, 2.13 GAA and 0.929 save %. The series doesn't start until Friday, June 1 in Hershey. They play there again on Satuday and then head to Hamilton for games on Monday (June 4), Wednesday (June 6) and Thursday (June 7). If necessary, the final two games are in Hershey on Tuesday, June 12 and Friday, June 15. That's a pretty sucky schedule. Too long a delay between games 5 and 6 and no weekend games in Steeltown!

Am I correct in believing that the Final will be broadcast on Sportsnet? I hope so. It should be an exciting series!

Haven't the Dogs far exceeded realistic expectations this season? I remember reading/hearing shouts of "Fire Lever". I read where it was going to be a tall order to get past Rochester, let alone Manitoba and Chicago. They far exceeded my expectations. First off the Dogs have never knocked Rochester out of the playoffs. They smoked the Amerks a couple times but that was when Dennis was in net. Then you add a 19 year old goalie and the team is missing their top player in Kostitsyn, then one of their top defensemen gets injured in Cote, leaving them with just 2 LD's. Add to that, several of the Dogs forwards are struggling to score goals. Milroy, Grabovski, D'Agostini, Stortini, all have had trouble hitting the back of the net. The Moose at one point in the season were the hottest team in the AHL, but it happened after the regular season series between the two teams ended, as the season series was very close between the two. But the Moose did slow down at the end of the season. I didn't really think we would get by them, but I really didn't see us beating the Wolves who are the top scoring team in the regular season at over 4 goals per game. But the Dogs outworked them and that's a credit to Lever, who I have been on him in the past. I kept quiet this year but in the past I have not liked a lot of things I've seen from him, but I'm happy to eat a big helping of crow here. This is great to see the Dogs in the Cup Finals, they will have their work cut out for them against the 2nd best offense in the regular season. Hershey has yet to lose in regulation on the playoffs and overall are 12-2. The Dogs are 12-5, 5-4 at home, 7-1 on the road. The series between them was good, as they split 1-1 but the Dogs had them early in the season but their youth let Hershey back in the game and then a complete boneheaded play by Danis in the final seconds of the game, where he turned the puck over to a Hershey player in a tie game when he just had to hold the puck to force OT, but instead gave them a wide open net to win the game. But win or lose the experience alone is great. Price makes a name for himself and gets playoff experience. Chipchura steps up big. Lapierre, O'Byrne, Ferland, Locke all stepping up. Even the guys that are just working out with the team, Aubin, Stewart, Gleed, Carle, S.Kostitsyn, Bonneau, Desjardins, it's good for them to be a part of a winning team and for some of them they are getting a close look at what to expect next year when they become full timers in Hamilton.

sergei kosty still injured? No word on an SK injury. My understanding is he's still in Hamilton. As far as AK is concerned, according to the Hamilton Spectator he has returned home. He is still injured. He's expected back in Montreal in July.

sergei kosty still injured? SK isn't injured, he just chose to go back home instead of staying with the Dogs and not get guaranteed icetime.

Haven't the Dogs far exceeded realistic expectations this season? I remember reading/hearing shouts of "Fire Lever". I read where it was going to be a tall order to get past Rochester, let alone Manitoba and Chicago. Sadly, I've missed the entire playoffs, save for the first round. But to look at a stat like back to back 0-for-8 and 0-for-7 power play performances, in close-out games shows there is something wrong with this team. To reach the Final is way beyond expectations, but Carey Price has been a difference maker, and Kyle Chipchura seems to have taken his game to an entirely new level (toward the end of the season I'd been feeling it was unfair that the Dogs had such a good player), along with the article about Ryan O'Byrne's playoff performance. Hell, even Corey Locke is producing (albeit three years later than we were expecting). The Dogs run has absolutely been a product of the performances the players are giving, not coaching. Early in the season I was asked if I'd still want Don Lever fired if the Dogs won the Cup, and the answer is still yes. As for the Sportsnet thing, I haven't heard anything of it, but if anyone has solid info to pass on, that would be great.
