I read on Twitter that few of those millionaires ever stepped foot in Canada. But hey....if they do...because Canada is really, really critical world tourist destination....(notice the word critical?)

As for the athletes, at some point Romanov is going to wonder if he's next. He's a millionaire and he's Russian. Because his family is Russian hockey entrenched, he's not going to make any anti-Putin comments. I never thought much of the Russian military and I never thought they stood a chance against the American military, never mind NATO. Lots of metal and hype, too little battlefield proof against people that can actually shoot back.

On the other hand, NATO is not exactly much of a fighting force because the former east block countries are willing but ill equipped. The German military was "enjoying" peace dividens and let their military slowly wither after the fall of the Berlin wall. UK and France are good, but lack logistics or heavy stock of material. In case ANYONE buys the Western bullcrap propaganda that foreigners are not embedded in Ukrainian civil militia and military.

There are literally millions of ex-military Americans that are battle hardened and that's absolutely critical. I'm sure there are plenty of them there, maybe not even Ukranian ancestry. Plus they serve as a go-betwen for field intelligence. US is providing their extremely capable real time satellite images. They can see soldiers in position and of course track everything everywhere. I'm pretty SURE there are covert American C/C* post prosecuting and or maybe even field directing this war.

I couldn't stomach that car video and I didn't watch all of it. Just a bit at a time.

I don't get queasy, I simply see red. My wife sees me squirming with anger and keeps saying there is nothing I can do about it...but I can't contain the anger. I do calm down in several minutes. That's why I can't watch an entire video like that.

I hate twitter but at least it serves a purpose in that it's the fastest source of news. My wife asked if I heard about the ship that was blown up....a day after I already knew about it.

Some of the comments I'm tweeting is something I wouldn't do here. What I hate about twitter is aholes who come in with their political views in a Ukrainian news source. Just SHOVE it with your woke/political crap, people are dying, a country is getting demolished and I hardly think anyone cares about their SJ warrior garbage or their "trump wouldn't allow this".

One thing that raised concerns is that he was asking for money. Raised $50,000 in a few days then tweeted that he wants everybody to stop. He just needed his expenses covered because he can't afford them. It's easy for me to criticize that because I can afford it but other then squirming uselessly in a easy chair, I'm not putting my life on the line like he is.

That $50,000 should last him through the war so if he asks again, I'm going to be very suspicious. One thing he did say is that the unit he is in is very badly equipped. No kevlar helmets, no radio equipment, no body armour, etc. Actually, not even trained how to clean their guns. THAT is were the US has is several levels better equipped then any other military on the planet. Sure, some countries can equip some units or a part of their military, but certainly not at the level the US can. As for Canada...best not to see red.....

Looks like the Trudeau government has settled on the F-35

F-35 is second choice for our needs. What we REALLY need is a high speed long range inteceptor. The F-22 is the perfect choice but the Americans stopped making that in 2011. It's like we designed it for our exact needs. Our Avro of 2000s.

I thought that maybe they buy the used American fleet if it was available or inquire about a short production run for us. Up to recently, they banned exports of F-22 but will allow it now for close allies.

The F-35 is an all around compromise of fighter, bomber and ground attack but does nothing well. It certainly usefull for the role in Poland or US projecting power, but that is NOT our need. Protecting our vast landmass from out best friend Puta is our one and only need.

Anywho...i'm ok with it but being wide eyed about it brings a shrug.

Now i would love to see a home grown drone industry because THAT is the future. It's the biggest bang for the defensive buck and the way to go. So give Canadian politicians about 50 years to figure it out.

G7 rejects Russia's demand for gas payment in rubles

Germany, which currently holds the G7 presidency, said the demand by Russia's President Vladimir Putin was "a unilateral and clear breach of the existing agreements."

German Economy Minister Robert Habeck on Monday said the Group of Seven (G7) major economies dismissed Russian President Vladimir Putin's demand to pay for gas in rubles.

Putin had said "unfriendly" countries would have to pay for Russian gas in Russia's own currency.

"All G7 [energy] ministers agreed that this is a unilateral and clear breach of the existing agreements," said Habeck, whose country holds the G7 presidency.

"Payment in rubles is not acceptable and ... we call on the companies concerned not to comply with Putin's demand," Habeck said.

Habeck added that Putin had his "back against the wall" to make such demand.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also insisted that "the contracts we know lay down the euro as payment currency and the companies will pay according to the contracts they have signed."

So far, European states and companies have paid for gas supplies in euros and US dollars.

Earlier on Monday, reporters asked Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov if Russia could cut natural gas supplies to European customers if they rejected the demand. "We clearly aren't going to supply gas for free," Peskov said.

"In our situation, it's hardly possible and feasible to engage in charity for Europe,'' Peskov said.

Russia will take decisions in due course should European countries refuse to pay in the Russian currency, he said before Habeck's statement.

Moscow and Kyiv are discussing a pause in hostilities as part of a possible deal that would involve Ukraine abandoning its drive for Nato membership in exchange for security guarantees and the prospect to join the EU, the people said under the condition of anonymity because the matter is not yet finalised.

The draft ceasefire document does not contain any discussion of three of Russia’s initial core demands — “denazification”, “demilitarisation”, and legal protection for the Russian language in Ukraine — the people added.

Envoys from both sides are to meet in Istanbul on Tuesday in a fourth round of peace talks designed to end president Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The concessions on Russia’s side come as its month-long ground offensive has largely stalled as a result of fiercer Ukrainian resistance than expected and Russian operational deficiencies.

But Ukraine and its western backers remain sceptical of Putin’s intentions, worrying that the Russian president could be using the talks as a smokescreen to replenish his exhausted forces and plan a fresh offensive.

David Arakhamia, head of Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky’s party in parliament and a member of Kyiv’s negotiating team, told the FT the parties were close to agreement on the security guarantees and Ukraine’s EU bid but urged caution about prospects for a breakthrough.

Was hanging with some friends last night, most retired military, and of course we started discussing this Russian/Ukraine war and how the Russians were getting their butts handed to them. Then one of the guys spoke up and said that he heard that all these Russian losses and deaths we somewhat manufactured by the Russians.

In other words they (the Russians) are spreading fake news about how Ukraine are fighting hard and winning battles causing major Russian loses. We of course called him out on it asking why would they do that, and he said that if the West thinks the the Ukraine is holding their own, that they won't feel that they have to supply as much aid.

Now I still call BS...I can't see Putin and his ego let the West think he is loosing a war against a puny country like the Ukraine....but who knows.

In other words they (the Russians) are spreading fake news about how Ukraine are fighting hard and winning battles causing major Russian loses. We of course called him out on it asking why would they do that, and he said that if the West thinks the the Ukraine is holding their own, that they won't feel that they have to supply as much aid.
