You're pretty sure what's not allowed?
I publish a monthly draft magazine with McKeen's, and since I'm a Hab fan and have been registered with Habsrus for 4-5+ years (formerly Turnbuckle, when I posted a lot more), I decided to supply you with a link to the list of McKeen's top 30 for April-May, which we now post on our new message board only. I am no longer posting it in HF Boards prospect forum as they are in cahoots with ISS and discriminate against the other scouting services.
The list and the message board are free, so what would be your problem exactly? Would printing the top 30 list not be worse? Would you prefer that people who are into the draft not know that McKeen's is publishing a draft guide, or care to know their rankings?
Instead of looking at this as a negative, I would hope that you would instead view it as a positive. A quick scan of this forum reveals that you have a lot to say (I seem to see smiling Jack about every third post)....I thought perhaps you (and others) might be looking for another place to share your views, or ask some draft questions.
Hell; I was hoping perhaps a couple of you might have a question or two in this thread; I do have some Hab connections when it comes to scouting, and connections to other teams. I am also McKeen's chief scout in eastern Canada and am a pretty solid source for this draft if I say so myself.
I was pondering whether I should start posting around here a little more like I used to since I've stopped posting at HF Boa rds. If the only responses I am going to get from attempts to re-establish communication are going to be ones like yours however, I think this may be a short visit.
Cheers

Any suggestions on who the Habs should be looking at with the #12 pick?
I've read some very mixed reports on Ellerby. Obviously you like him as you have him ranked #14...do you see Chris Phillips type upside to his game? Is there a better NHL comparable?
Any "tips" on who the Habs like in the first round? Anybody ranked in the top 15-20 that the Habs don't like?

Wondering the same about Ellerby -- we need to continue to augment our D with some strong stay-at-home guy.
Also wondering why you have Couture as high as you do, when others have him slipping.

i'm pretty sure this isn't allowed, check the code of conduct again. I don't want to put words in Spiro's mouth, but I think the intent of the clause in the Code of Conduct is to prevent people from using HabsRus as a springboard to their sites. I believe something like a link to a scouting ranking (or for that matter a link to a Dogs Box score which happens to be on the AHL site, which I post quite often) would not fall into that category. I expect ISS rankings and REd Line rankings to be posted before long and that's good as it gives us a lot more to debate and toss around. I can see Spiro's viewpoint and the spirit of the Code of Conduct in that matter. The promotion of the draft guide, though is getting close to the line, Streitshooter. We don't mind informational links, but selling something via the site is likely not in line. CO, can you clarify please. PS. So that's where you went, Turnbuckle. I've actually been thinking of changing my 'name' too. Perhaps 18? So I could drink legally everywhere but BC.

I would think that Ryan McDonagh and Bill Sweatt would be the early favourites to be Habs in June if either is available. I don't think they want to gamble with Espo, and Hamill isn't a good fit.

I didn't provide a link to our ordering page; I merely stated that we'll be publishing a draft guide. Things are strict around here, but stopping me from providing that info would be bordering on ridiculous.

Also wondering why you have Couture as high as you do, when others have him slipping. others have him slipping? He dropped eight positions in our rankings in the past month...would you not consider that slipping? Fact is he may be the most complete two-way player in this draft, so you can't drop him too far. We didn't forget about his dominating junior performances just because he was poor at the U-18's. His skating deficiencies were exposed on the larger ice, but NHLersd don't play on olympic sized ice, so his disappointing Under -18 dropped his value, but not significantly. That tourney is important, but is not the be all to end all.

I guess it is because your rating after slipping is where others had him before slipping. [and now I can't find the link that had him about 18 . . . or where Lahey was ranked higher than Alphonso, which surprised me] I don't follow "the rankings" much, but do know our local guys. I like him . . . but I liked Locke too and it looks like he's hit his ceiling.

Well, I'll ask the obvious question:
Since you're connected to the HABS, how do you see them acting vs Esposito? Do you see them actively chasing him, actively avoiding him or treat him just like any prospects and draft him only if he's the BPA at the time they'll speak.

Why not just simply copy and paste your top 30 list; this would certainly avoid any potential run-ins and/or confusion regarding our posting policy? CO copy and pastes don't do anything for traffic. anyway i saw the list, when i saw ellerby at #14 and hickey not in the top 30 i stopped looking at the rest of the players. it seems to be a bit east biased, the other scouting services are more evenly spread out across canada. imo

That might explain why you feel he might be biased a tad towards the east. SS, like CO was saying, feel free to post your lists and opinions here as well. Would make for some good discussion for sure. Cheers.

I'd like to know where they have the Ruth kid (defenseman in the Adam Foote mould) ranked. I thought he sounded pretty good in the other rankings.

In a weak draft such as this one, I think we should be drafting with the New England Patriot philosophy - when it doubt, draft character. A good coach, should be able to get alot out of a kid with a great character. And all I have read about this Ruth guy, is that he has a strong work ethic, and lots of character. So if he is available with our second pick, I'd like to see him selected (especially if we don't get a d-man with our first pick - which I don't think we will)

Call me Biased, but if Voracek happens to slip to 12th we take him. I doubt very much he'll be around, but he is impressive. Strong on his skates, gritty and plenty of finesse and scoring touch. With our second pick in the 1st I like Bill Sweatt, one of the fastest skaters at the World Junior and again very strong on his skates. My sleeper pick in the 1st round would be Logan McMillan. This guy had an outstanding second half, hampered by injuries in the first half. he moved up the charts and from what I here from a local scout here is that he could go even higher than ranked. Tremendous work ethic combined with good hockey sense scoring touch and likes to take the body. I know I haven't mentioned a D-men, but again you should take the best player available.

Sweatt impressed me more than Kane at the WJC. He constantly had Canada on their heels when he attacked. You can't help being on your heels when that kind of speed comes at you.

I saw him make a few rushes against Canada and the defensemen had no idea how to contain him. He was the best player on team USA IMO.

So if he is available with our second pick, I'd like to see him selected (especially if we don't get a d-man with our first pick - which I don't think we will) I have no problems drafting a defenseman with one of, if not both of our first round picks this year. In fact, I sometimes wonder what kind of team you could build if you ONLY drafted defensemen in the first and second rounds, and then used them as trade bait to get forwards and goalies, and stuff. Young defensemen, in my opinion, have the highest trade value of any player, and as many of you know, I always want the team to draft them. Having said that, I don’t think defensemen are an organizational need, per se. Yes, at the NHL level we are somewhat, err, “challenged”, but nobody we draft this year will help in that regards anyways. So we’re talking 5-7 years from now. We lack ready-for-the-NHL defensemen, but we do have a whole whack of 1-3 years away type defensemen, in O’Byrne, Emelin, Valentenko, Carle, Fischer and so on. We drafted 4 defensemen last year, out of our 6 picks, and Gainey and Timmins said that was deliberate, as they felt that blueliners were an organizational need (thus blowing another hole in the “best player available” theory). So the prospect pipe line for defensemen is okay. On the other hand, the prospect pipeline for big centers is not. Will the Habs go that route on draft day? Perhaps not with their #12 pick, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if our picks after that fall into “big bodies down the middle” category.

Or do you mean things like a blank Betamax tape, 1 1/4' drywall screws, pencil erasers, and purple sidewalk chalk? Please clarify, I really need to know. Thanks in advance, CO
