Domi will be fine. He'll be playing with the Leafs next year. I will be absolutely astonished if Max isn't a Leaf on the first day of FA. I've been saying that ever since he left the Habs. He would be good addition for the Leafs (a lot better than Spezza, Simmonds, Thornton and all the other retreads). And they can now afford his cap hit. Saw his dad in attendance last night wearing a Canes hat. I remember the fuss when Tie dawned a Habs jersey. They'll both be right at home in their Loser Leafs paraphernalia.

Atleast the Leafs have home town players that want to go play for them. I am trying to remember the last time a Quebecer in his prime came to the Habs.

Well it is a dream. It's just the Devils and the Sens are the only pucks in the top 8 that are rumored to be available for NHL ready talent. I don't know if Dvorak, Anderson, Calgary pick, Mailloux? would be enough to get the 2nd and even if I want to do that for an unproven pick. As a GM, I am tearing this down to the ground and tanking again this year while clearing up cap space in 2 years time. I don't think we need more picks, just some high end talent. My end goal would be to have no one older than Suzuki on the team by the 2024 or 2025 season. Maybe by then Dubois will be a free agent and we could add him or Scheiffle. Anderson, #26 pick, #33 pick, and one of Jordan Harris or Justin Barron for the #2 pick

I built mine around the Habs wanted to shed salary, the Devils wanting proven NHL's players to be competitive and Montreal cleaning themselves of a "conflicting pick". Plus I don't think Hughes wants to trade players he just signed or traded for.

I would not give up Anderson, what he brings is hard to find... MSL had him playing a specific way last year and Andy bought into it. Also, he showed up in the playoffs and is a great team guy. Yes he is north/south, but guys with his size, speed and knack for the net don't grow on oversized trees. After watching how bad our D was this year, I am also really hesitant to give up any thing on the back end as well. I like our forward depth going forward, there's lots of skill and speed coming, throw in some decent picks this year and next and I think we are in good shape. As much as I would like to be in the Bedard sweepstakes next year, f Carey is back and we aren't injured as much, there's just no way we will be in the bottom of the standings, we'll be somewhere in the 15-20 range probably battling for a playoff spot. We need to move salary, and we may have to package picks to do it... Armia and Hoffman need to go, but finding takers will be hard. If we could package Armia with our late 1st and early 2nd for Ottawa's 1st this year I would do that in a heartbeat.

He is 28 years old and is not going to suddenly explode point wise. His career average is .44 ppg, or an 82 game 39 points. Last year, with the league points per player rising, he had an 82 game 38 point season. Add in the fact that he has not had a full season in 3 years and he costs you $5.5MM a year, I'd have him near the top of my "To trade" list. If another GM likes what he 'looks like", all the better. BTW, however he looked in last years playoffs, the facts are he produced .27 ppg, one goal of which was an empty net gift from MA Fleury. He's not a defensive specialist so we can't even give him the benefit of the doubt that way. Re the proposed trade above with the 26 and 33 picks and one of Harris or Barron. I too am reluctant to give up either of those two. I really liked what Harris showed in his limited games and Barron kept improving with each game, so I like their progression. As you mentioned, I suspect Hughes is not going to trade a guy he just recently signed or traded for. Now...Logan Mailloux is neither of those and a guy who caused a lot of angst among fans and probably helped cost Bergevin his job. I could see Hughes ending that chapter by including him in a trade. You'd think he still has a lot of value and is the right age for Fitzgerald to see him replacing Hamilton in a few years. Anderson, Mailloux and perhaps Byron (who has a lot of utility and only 1 year left on his contract or Hoffman (with 2 years left and the potential to improve NJ's PP). The Devils have plenty of CAP space but need depth. Unfortunately, I bet the Devils would be asking for Romanov or Guhle and that's a non starter.

If the thought process is to include a guy that was too controversial, then you got to think he is too controversial for other teams to want We have a plethora of young defensive prospects. We gave to unload one or two to get better offensively. Currently we have Romanov, Norlinder, Harris, Barron, Guhle, Mailloux, Struble, Nike, Schueneman, Xhekaj. Now they aren’t all top 2 guys. But to get the #2 pick and get Cooley or Slavkovsy you are going to have to give. And only giving up 1 of Harris and Barron is not going to hurt us . And if anyone thinks we are not going to be in the Bedard conversation next year, then this is the year to double down on two offensive forwards, if the trade is available

I see a large quantity of top 6 defenseman but don't see any top 2. If anything, I would make a trade of quantity for quality of higher potential for top 2.
Example is Guhle. I thought he's Weber V2. Now more closer to Chiarot clone.
