my high school in southern Saskatchewan had a "man powered Zamboni" somewhat like this iirc . . . not pretty? no, pretty ugly!

They don’t make old hockey barns like they used too 😂. Somewhere is Sasky, I believe. That stairwell is awesome ... I remember a rink buried deep in Westboro, Ottawa, when I was growing up (late 60s) and the 'Zamboni' resembled this one, though it didn't look this pretty ... the guy didn't wear skates, he wore homemade spikes that were strapped to his feet ... I still remember the 'click-click-click' as he walked by us making new ice ... Was it Elmgrove arena Disgruntled70sHab? kitchissippi.com/2019/11/03/early-days-history-continues-for-elmgrove-arena/

I kind of remember, generally, how to get there ... keep walking north on Churchill, down the hill, and cross at the lights on Richmond Rd ... the rink was somewhere in that neighbourhood, on the right, between Richmond and Scott St ... what I can't remember is whether the rink had piping under the ice, or whether it was chilled from the outside weather ... the old Cattle Castle at Landsdowne Park was actually colder inside, than it was outside, and the ice was always aces ... split a few broomballs in half the odd time when it really got cold in there ... Cheers.

my high school in southern Saskatchewan had a "man powered Zamboni" somewhat like this iirc . . . not pretty? no, pretty ugly! One other thing about Canadian winters, just about every town has an outdoor rink, or two ... we'd have men's league broomball scheduled all over the city of Ottawa and one of those outdoor rinks we'd play at was in Westboro ... it's still there ... outdoor games were, generally, earlier in the evening than the arena games ... I can't remember seeing games scheduled to start at 10:30 or 11:30 PM in an outdoor rink in Ottawa (maybe our team was just lucky) but it was common for arena games ... IIRC, it was also the cheapest time for renting ice, too ... Cheers.

Stupid Tampa, they're losing to the panthers 5-1... clowns

Willie, for sure, not an ideal outcome down in the sunshine state tonight. Considering the quality of the Panthers' roster, unless injuries to the their big guns hit, it is not really all that likely they finish bottom ten. It would be an almost inexplicable aberration and blessing from above if that occurs. At this stage, I think the likeliest scenario is that Florida cannot climb over enough rivals to make the playoffs, but ultimately finish in that 11-15 range.

Trouba was a wrecking ball last night against the Flames

Compared to stuff we saw 10-20 or 30-40 years ago, Trouba is obviously not a boogeyman trying to maim anyone. However, while there was nothing wrong with the hits he laid out last night, Trouba has certainly ventured into the gray area where he keeps his elbows and shoulders tucked in yet contacts opponents' heads (e.g. Crosby in the 2022 playoffs and there are quite a few similar ones).
Not a good night for the Panthers, the Penguins and Islanders pocket two points.

Stupid Tampa, they're losing to the panthers 5-1... clowns We may be seeing the demise of the Lightning. They lost in OT tonight vs the Sharks. Supporters will say they are pacing themselves because you just have to make the playoffs and anything can happen (yes, that was deliberate). This feels different somehow. Truly embarrassed by Florida despite a good game from Vasilevsky and now blowing a 3-1 lead on San Jose. Fatigue?

Some good results today. Pens won to open more space from Florida. Islanders did too, to creep closer to Florida. Anaheim came back to beat Chicago and are now just 6 points behind our Habs (hope springs eternal).

We really need the Sharks to beat the Panthers Thursday

Yeah, that would be great. Unfortunately, on home ice, this is likely the class of game where Barkov and Tkachuk and the rest of the gang get their cookies and pad their season stats.
Vancouver is giving the Rangers a good hockey game at MSG tonight but they are running out of time to tie it up. Overall, though, the good news is that Tocchet has the Canucks playing a lot harder and smarter.

Tampa has their legs back after undoubtedly partying way too hard during the all star break. They lead the Makar-less Avs 4-0.

Sheesh. Canucks really have sieves in goal when Demko’s out. Delia is sporting a .765 save (a very loose term in this instance) percentage against NYI today. I hope this game goes to OT.

Sharks poop the bed. Canucks help the cause! Dammit. SJ beating Florida would've been win-win for us. I really hoped Florida's lottery odds would be added to our own for a shot at Bedard, but that's looking unlikely...

Alas, Florida probably has too much talent to finish bottom eleven. And teams like St. Louis now look very likely to squeeze into the lottery. However, with the all-time loss leader behind the bench, I foresee the Panthers throwing away enough games to miss out on the playoffs.
Also, it is basically a five team (Pittsburgh, Washington, Islanders, Buffalo, Florida) race for the two wild cards. Hockey is debatable, but I estimate the Panthers are facing long odds.

A Florida losing streak would help, or an extended winning streak by 2 of the other 4 teams. Athletes understand odds and if the hill looks too high to climb, they'll stop and have lunch. Florida needs to stop and have lunch and supper and then go on vacation.

Sens are in trouble. Hamonic pushed Hyman into Forsberg & they had to stretcher him off with a leg injury. Had to finish up with their #3 guy.

Cbj beats the leafs... back to back losses in regulation

Leafs nation is probably full of rage over splitting the home and home with Columbus. Woll looked okay, but man if Murray is constantly finding new 'pains' which prevent him from playing, I would not be feeling too confident with a duo (Samsonov and Woll) with a grand total of one playoff victory (not a series, no sir, literally one game) between the two of them.
Florida proving that Maurice continues to have no real impact on the culture of that group. They really deserved something from the game tonight against the Avs, but something is always happening with blown coverages and basically the troublesome phenomenon of the whole being less than the sum of the indiviual pieces.

Another of those tough 'stay at home' D's who always seem to be on the ice when bad things happen. So far in his career he's been traded for a 12th overall pick (Noah Dobson) and a third round pick. Keep trading him, boys.

Cbj beats the leafs... back to back losses in regulation For a team with high aspirations like Toronto games against the bottom of the league should be automatic. However they are 0-3-1 against the Coyotes & the Habs and now can only get a split against the worst team in the league. As for Murray's status I put that solely on Dubas. He knew his play was declining & he knew the injury history (including four concussions) yet signed him anyway. Again, he has failed to find a reliable goalie.

My son and I were watching the Leafs game. It was funny seeing the ref nail Bunting with unsportsmanlike conduct for throwing a hissy fit from the bench after Olivier hit him and teased him.
My son got in trouble (I guess I did too, jeje) because my wife happened to be doing a fly by the room when he said 'hey dad I can totally read lips, that guy on the Blue Jackets just called Bunting the p-word and b-word.' I almost choked on a swallow of my beer.
