Suzuki and Bowey were back on the ice today skating with the training/therapist staff.

First cuts (I expected a few more, but they should be coming after the first couple of games this week). Sobolev missed out on development and rookie camp. He was not originally on the training camp roster but was added late and did not last long.

Lineup for tonight. Nice to see a few of the guys who played well yesterday get a pre season game in tonight like Beck, Richard, Mešár and Myšák. Most of the suspects fighting for those open D spots will see action tonight (and I expect in a fair number of the upcoming games too as the coaches will want to get a very good look at them all).

This year we have room on the bench for seven rookies with no problems. Unfortunately, we don't have rookies with no problems.

As Andrew indicates, the start of Laval’s camp is a trigger for a lot of the AHL guys to be sent down. They will probably cut most of the junior guys too as the CHL will be underway by then. Some of the bubble guys will likely be around to near the end of camp though.

With the lineup tonight focused on youth, I will definitely be watching. It should be interesting.

Kinda weakens Bergevin's assertions that the city wouldn't stand for a rebuild. Looks to me like they're all in for a rebuild.

With the lineup tonight focused on youth, I will definitely be watching. It should be interesting. I really want to see how Beck does against more intense opposition. I still think another year in the OHL makes sense for him as we need to weed out the centre position a bit (what a crazy comment to make, considering how weak that position was in the past) but I can easily see him earning a spot next season, at 19.

The answer is yes, you can find centres, but only if you value them enough. I mean that as a centre, not a player. Bergie must just not have believed that centres were that important. His behaviour confirms that...being satisfied with Pleks and Desharnais as your numbers 1 and 2. Pleks was a good 2C during several years, but without that No. 1 guy ahead of him, he wasn't able to provide the offense we needed. The GM didn't see, or believe that. When the opportunity was there to develop Galchy as a centre, he stuffed him at wing, stating publicly that he couldn't play centre. Offensively he certainly could, but not if the opportunity was denied. MSL has a very different belief system, thank god.

And look at the ages of the four centres that the Habs used in their game last night against NJD: Beck (18), Dach (21), Mešár (18), and Myšák (20).

He is still junior aged and draft eligible, so not a shock to see him released from his ATO. The big cuts are likely after Saturday’s game. They have three games between now and then, so need the bodies. Then they will assign a bunch to the Laval camp.

After both getting some preseason action in, it is now time for these two to get back and tear up the QMJHL again this year in what should be their last year of juniors.
Roy still needs to keep working on his skating and Kidney needs to add strength and get more jump in his skating too.

Most of the guys who played last night are not on the ice this morning, but it is nice to see some of the walking wounded skating with their mates. Interesting to see both Heineman and Norlinder back out after last night’s game.
I think Heineman is making an interesting case for himself (he is tricky since he has to be offered back to Leksands if he does not make the Habs roster) and Norlinder, who is likely trending in the other direction given how well some of the other young guys battling for spots have been playing and are likely slipping ahead of him in the depth chart.
Trudeau has really jumped himself into the legitimate prospect conversation after a very good rookie and now main camp. He is holding his own. For the longest time I figured he would just be too vanilla and lose out on an ELC by next summer due to the numbers game and better guys that need to be signed. Now, not so much. He is showing good progression and instincts out there. He really jumps into the play too. He could be poised for a big breakout season this year.

Anderson and Monahan in regular jerseys is a good sign that they could/should be ready to go to start.

And the second group today. It looks like most of the AHL contract guys are now practicing in a separate group in anticipation of the start of Laval camp later this weekend and with those cuts likely coming after tomorrow’s game.

I would like to see Dvorak, dads and Hoffman as our 4th line... keep them away from productive players

I would like to see Dvorak, dads and Hoffman as our 4th line... keep them away from productive players I think the focus should be to let them be as good as they possible can so lots of TOI, and then we can get some return later this season. None of them will be on the team by the end of the season. Don't care about wins and losses. this is a rebuild and a cleaning of the house. Dvo' value has gone up since pre-season as he seems to be excelling (against AHL players).

The big “Laval” cuts have cometh.
None have to clear waivers. All will report to Laval’s camp. Five guys are on NHL two way deals.
Trudeau and Tourigny are interesting, as they are eligible to play in either the AHL or QMJHL. Options yet to be determined.

I wish they'd get down to 30 or so, so we have a clear idea of who they're focusing on. Man, I sure hope they don't invite 74 guys next year.

7 more cuts today:
Norlinder and Mešár assigned to Laval (waiver exempt).
Belzile, Richard, and Stephens on waivers for purpose of assigning to Laval.
Simoneau and Poulin (AHL deals) assigned to Laval camp.
