Thanks for the updates boys. That is a great quote from St. Louis.
It is nice to see some kids with talent and size knocking on the door.

He created the entry, got comfortable on the blueline, and finished with the snipe. We would be selling him way short if we typecast him as just a stay at home defenseman (I think the term for that is "committing a Bergevin").

I'm reading all the reports with optimism and enthusiasm - don't recall when was the last time I've been so pumped for a season. Not because I think we'll have a winning season, but I'm keen on seeing the future. There are so many potential young studs to follow on this team. I read about Slafs manhandling Armia along the boards - now we're talking. Bye bye old guard.
The only caveat in all this is the reporting on every team at this time of year ('Spring Training') is all so upbeat - until the season starts.

We would be selling him way short if we typecast him as just a stay at home defenseman (I think the term for that is "committing a Bergevin").
My thoughts from watching him during the playoffs and Mem Cup last year was that where he needed the improvements was in the defensive zone, not the offensive one. He showed good instincts attacking, but his reads defensively were wrong at times. It seems to be a standard way of thinking, for us to pigeon hole big strong dmen as defensive types. That's true if they can't skate, but Arber is not at all like that. One of the journos covering the team (Engels?) said he skates very well, not just for a big man. He skates well, period. That is true.
He seems to be a guy developing late. I'm curious to know his hockey history, when he started playing, where, etc. Plus/minus is a stained statistic, but it's interesting looking at Arbers. There's nothing about him on Hockeydb.com before the 2018/19 season when he played 59 games for the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL. His stat line was 2 goals, 1 assist, 3 points in 59 games, with 39 PIM and -28 (2nd worst on a bad team). The following season that stat line was 6-11-17 in 51 games, 88 PIM and +26, 2nd highest on the team.
The next season, split between Kitchener and Hamilton, so it's hard to compare, the stat line was 12-22-34 in 51 games with 138 PIM and +44. You can see the progress in points and +/- each year. He was also asserting himself more physically, which probably gave him more time and space. The playoffs last year was another jump in performance with 6-10-16 in 18 games (almost a ppg) and 50 PIM. There was no record of +/- for the playoffs, but I'd think it was pretty good. These are the kinds of improvement in numbers that I like to see in a prospect. He started off late, but it was a good signing which took place in Oct 2021, before the split season with Kitchener/Hamilton. Good work by the scouting staff and Bergie would have liked his toughness. I really hope he makes it because like Chara and Robinson, he gives his team a certain amount of swagger and creates time and space for everyone. You also want a guy with some skill unlike Erik Gudbranson, who is tough, but adds nothing in productivity. Arber's got a real chance.
BTW, his +/- for Kitchener last season, if pro rated would have been +26, easily the best on the team. On Hamilton, a full season number would have been +76! the next closest guy was +49. Mason McTavish was also traded to the Bulldogs part way through the season and his prorated +/- was +76, just like Arber's. Not so shabby for the big guy, huh?

Rosters for the red-white scrimmage this afternoon. A number of big names not playing: Caufield, Dach, Slafkovsky and Guhle. They are going to be playing tomorrow night in the first pre season game against New Jersey. Lots of games all week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday), so expect quite a rotation of guys in and out of the lineups before they make the first round of big cuts (likely to send guys to juniors and to the Laval camp).
RDS will be streaming the red-white game at 3:00pm ET.

It's not just the release, accuracy, etc. You can see him bending his head toward the winger on the other side, planting uncertainty into the goalie's mind. Will he pass or shoot? (Duh).

The line of Dvorak, Gally and Dadonov have looked good. They tied it up with Gally’s weird lob shot.

Xhekaj with a nice finish on a two on one in a 3vs3 OT period. Beck with the secondary assist on the play for his third helper of the day. 7-2 red final.
