I agree 2022 was a less than average year (just like 2012 AND 2018), but one very obvious difference has to be pointed out between the examples the fellow above uses. Zetterberg and Hejduk were 6 feet, Miller 6'1". Slaf is 6-3 or 6-4 and heavier than all 3 of those guys. It takes big guys longer to develop. That was a key aspect of HuGo's thinking at the draft given the players available. They were frank in admitting they could have chosen someone who would be better right now, but 3-4 years from now? As tempting as it is, HuGo have to look a bit further into the future than tomorrow's breakfast. Slaf could indeed end up a 3rd line guy, but it's way too early to predict that. Great players have this insatiable drive to improve. We should be asking if Slaf is like that or not.
