Vancouver played their backup last night in Ottawa, so the Habs will have to deal with Demko. Overall, the Canucks are finally more or less healthy and on paper at least they have a lot of quality down the middle. However, if Montreal is willing to get pucks low and grind, Vancouver's defense is still very susceptible to giving up holes in the home plate area.

Demko hasn't been Thatcher Demko so far this year. It might be better facing him than Spencer, who has been better than average. Or he might choose tonight to turn his season around.
While Horvat has clearly been on a tear, the really dangerous guy is Pettersson. He has been really good. Seventeen points in 13 games is testament to that, while playing on a team that had a long road trip to start the season. He seems to have taken his game to another level, and the previous level was already pretty high. Their defensive structure is questionable and Ethan Bear had several bad turnovers in his own end, so overall, it looks like it should be a VERY exciting game.
They sound a lot like the Habs, huh?, except older.

I would assume Demko settles back in as guys like Myers and Hughes who had been missing for extended time begin to make their impact felt. But you are right, seventeen, that Vancouver is not exactly a good example of structure and commitment to team defense. Guys have always loved playing for Boudreau, but those criticisms have been there for a long time.

Rutherford even came out publicly to state that you can't win long term without some defensive structure (which was surely throwing Boudreau under the bus). If he wasn't loved by the fans (with the risk of backlash) and the fact the owner is cheap and wouldn't want to pay Boudreau and his replacement for the rest of the year, Bruce would have been gone already. He was not the choice of this administration and that happens like clockwork, huh? It's only a matter of time.
Regardless, the error goes back to the firing of Trevor Linden, who had a head on his shoulders and hitching your horse to Jim Benning, who has an ass on his shoulders. It was another example of an owner not having the patience for a real re-build and transitioning over too soon. It's such a temptation to do so, after a few years of losses. In Vancouver's case, they lost Linden and Judd Bracket, a guy with a real nose for talent, who is now with Minny, while keeping Benning, who simply kept digging a deeper hole for the team. Rutherford, too, is a poor choice. He has managed to win if he has two franchise superstars at centre and an elite defenseman. Then you get some hot goaltending and Bob's, I mean Matt's your uncle. What he had that other executives often don't, is bagfuls of luck. Despite all that ammunition, if Ryan Johansen doesn't get hurt just before Nashville met the Pens, it could have easily been a different result. Some guys just get credit despite a lot of evidence suggesting they didn't earn it.

This is a bottom of the barrel fight. Whoever is worse will win!
If we lose, I really like to see higher scores which will then make players worth more on the market.
(Yes, I'm drunk if I believe that Drouin will return anything but a used puck.)

that Vancouver is not exactly a good example of structure and commitment to team defense. Please do not upset Drouin, Hoff and Dandy with crazy talk about team defense!

I prefer watching the games on TSN, Dave Poulin is a knowledgeable guy and the broadcast team, like they are on the Jets, sens and leafs tsn broadcasts, are pro the team they're covering. On sportsnet we get a goof like Gary galley who spends all his time pumping up the other team... I'll be watching on RDS

What is up with Edmunston? I turn on the game, they win the face off and he is handing the puck to Garland right in the goal crease area. He's been terrible since he came back.

We cannot win this game... if we do we'll be tied for 15th in the league... wtf?
Suze with 8 goals in 14 games... could be a 40 goal guy
Cole has 8, he could be up there as well... we need some secondary scoring though

Jeez, how does Drouin miss that chance? The guy is a black hole offensively.
Instead of being 5-1 , it's now 4-2. This guys contact can't expire soon enough.

Caufield gets hauled down ... no call
Goes back into MTL zone, Guhle does the same thing ... penalty
I hate the NHL directive to call penalties based on score.
If it's a penalty call the damn thing no matter the score

It was a dream first period. Gradually the boys looked tired and started conceding more open ice to the Canucks. But this is a nice win. And I am still not quite sure what to make of how excellent Montembeault has been in net this season.

I watch a lot of Nuck games (glutton for punishment) and have learned to appreciate the quality and fairness of the group. John Shorthouse and John Garrett are a good team.

We can't afford to miss the opportunity of a decade. Hughes has to act. Maybe call up Kevin Poulin.

Trying to roof a puck that really didn't need to be roofed Always roof it or when you really need to, you'll miss and the goalie will stop the low shot. I know a lot of shots go in lower than that, but I've seen so many shots stopped that wouldn't have been if they'd been upstairs. Oh well, what do I know. One goal in my hockey career. And that one wasn't roofed.

If not for Drouin it would have still been 4-0. The Canucks first goal was all about Drouin bailing out on a puck around the boards on his wing, which Schenn got and put on the net. I've given up on getting anything for Drouin. Main thing is to get him off the books at season's end. The focus has to be on making Hoffman look as appealing as possible as he's still on the books next year if we can't find a suitor this Spring.
