Michel aka "the Bodyguard" Therrien says hold my beer Marty.
Well, this seems like a prime win opportunity for the Habs. Columbus has been ravaged by injuries (Voracek, Werenski, Laine, Bean, Boqvist), but their play in net has been improved of late so nothing is a guarantee in hockey.
I am sure the coaches have been talking to the boys about it. Montreal is just playing too often from behind.

--1st goal off Harris beside the net.
--Xhekaj puts a Blue Jacket into our bench.
--Monty slides across...stick off the ice....5-hole.
Down 2-0.

Columbus got a lucky goal. But overall there were just too many Blue Jackets open in the home plate area and too many partial breakaways against.
Montreal's offensive efforts looked too slow and plodding -- dig out a puck off the boards and immediately initiate the low to high sequence. Montreal's d-men are not finding open lanes for those wristers and the Blue Jackets d-men box the Habs out down low.

I wonder when the Habs travelled, because they look jet lagged. We're really telegraphing our moves out there.
All things considered, I wouldn't say the Blue Jackets outplayed us, but they did get 3 breakaways and are up 2-0... so maybe they did outplay us?

Dadonov HAS to shoot there!
On the ensuing face off Anderson ties it up

Xhekaj fights Olivier … I’d call it a draw

Mathieu olivier. Certified goon. Not good for anything else.

And there's the difference
Other teams, can execute odd man passing plays
The Habs, wait way to long to pass, can't get them through , and it usually turns into an easy save or a shot wide

Harris started that disastrous sequence, but man did Dadonov ever mail it in with the matador poke check on Kuraly.

That last goal was epic baby brown softness all around.

Montehole strikes again.
Tell me again that we don't need to get a young real number 1 goalie.

Monty at .814 save percentage. That’s the #1 reason we’re behind. Not his usual performance.

This year, i love seeing our team play well, our kids produce and still losing. If we can manage to get a top 5 pick or better we will appreciate the suffering so much more after we are a contender. I guarantee it.

That was a painful game to watch. A team that understaffed runs right over us. Our defense and goaltending is definitely what we knew it to be.. 🤮

This year is the year we let the kids get a ton of ice time and experience (good and bad), and trade the elder statesmen for draft picks down the road. It's the formula for continued success. First round picks in 2026 and 2027. Today's GM's won't give a damn about giving up picks in years they may not even be around for, but those picks could easily be lottery picks. Formula for success.
