Is Matheson still dealing with effects of the lower body injury he had to start the season?
It will be interesting to see how Dach manages the additional responsibilities of playing centre.
The Kings are probably looking to turn the page on an embarrassing loss in Toronto and they could certainly use the points in the crowded Pacific. Montreal is well-rested, but the first game back home after an extended road trip can often be trouble.

Some shuffling including moving Dach back to centre. Some of the quotes on that Twitter thread really expose the ignorance of so many fans. The prevailing thought that Dach is a big slug who can't win face-offs and doesn't hit anyone is expressed in that thread. The face-off issue has been a problem in the past, but if you don't work on it you'll never get better. Work in progress. Tage Thompson's face off percentage is 42%. The Sabres aren't sitting him because of that. Dach throws plenty of hits. He chooses his spots and doesn't run amuck like Anderson, ignoring other parts of the game in order to make a hit. He uses his body effectively, is strong on the puck and has great hands. He's intelligent and showed that with Suzuki and Caufield and was often involved in goals where he didn't get an assist but made a play that made the goal possible. He's not a Patrice Bergeron, but he could be a David Krejci and there's nothing wrong with that.

The original mistake was Edmundson’s. He stepped up to intercept a cross ice pass (good), but missed controlling the puck (bad) and that allowed LA to enter the zone and go from there.

Typical first game back. Gotta not allow any more goals until we sort ourselves out.

Edmundson, the stay at home defense, getting his wish, staying in his own zone for over 2 minutes. Well, I hope LA has blown their wad and now regress to normal.

A few boobirds as they watch the Kings dominate and play keepaway in our zone for almost 2 minutes. Men against boys against our 4th line

Yeah, the Kings tilted the ice against the boys. I suppose it could be the mental trap of coming back home. But Los Angeles deserves credit for taking the puck and basically making the Habs look like an ECHL opponent.

One reason for the poor play is the line switches and addition of Hoffman. You take a high IQ guy like Dach off the top line and replace him with a Commodore 64 and you can expect that line to die.

Nothing like a trip to Montreal to help a team struggling with their goaltending, goals against and penalty killing. Smells like a shutout for someone named Phoenix Copley?

Ya, Copley is a career minor leaguer with about 30 NHL games and 1 shutout.
Fun fact - he was born in North Pole, Alaska. Maybe he knows Santa

Shutouts are easier when the opposition only had one shot through the 1st nine minutes.

Guhle's assist was his 11th point of the season. This ties him for 35th on the all-time Habs rookie defenseman scoring list with
Gilbert Delorme 1981-82 Yannink Weber 2010-11

I don't get putting Dach back with Suze. Once Marty made the decision to start Dach at centre you have to see it through. Dach was actually playing well at centre and was 4/5 on face offs. Sure Suze's line sucked but that was more Suze being off his game and Josh not synching at all (surprise ). They were all rusty. And who cares about the 2 points. I care about Dach's confidence and development. If Marty was unhappy with Suze's line then try another winger for Anderson: Hoff, Daddy.

Sure is difficult watching Dvo, Dads and Armia - talk about a line with no identity and even less results. X had a good game. He's got a presence! Now about Wideman

Notwithstanding that Wideman is apparently a great teammate, it seems highly probable he will be playing hockey for the Rocket soon enough as guys like Drouin and Gallagher return to the active roster.
Yeah, the boys really did not have it tonight. The Kings played good crisp hockey right out of the gate and Montreal had the tough task of chasing the game while being the second best team on the ice.
Well, there could be a repeat of this same scenario on Monday. Toronto beats Montreal's upcoming opponent (Calgary), who will thus be coming in even more desperate for two points.
